    AIS Code of Research Conduct

    No full text
The AIS Code of Research Conduct offers guidance in matters directly related to the research and publication of scholarly works, and particularly those in the journals and conference proceedings of the Association for Information Systems (whether hardcopy or electronic). Eleven code items are presented in two categories: those codes which must always be adhered to, and those codes which are recommended ethical behavior. An additional category of Good Advice indicates practices to avoid difficult situations. Each code item is discussed and explained

Comparison study on AIS data of ship traffic behavior

    No full text
AIS (Automatic Identification System) data provides valuable input parameters in ship traffic simulation models for maritime risk analysis and the prevention of shipping accidents. This article reports on the detailed comparisons of AIS data analysis between a Dutch case and a Chinese case. This analys is focuses on restricted waterways to support inland waterway simulations, comparing the differences between a narrow waterway in the Netherlands (the Port of Rotterdam) and a wide one in China (wide water way of Yangtze River close to the SuTong Bridge). It is shown that straightforward statistical distributions can be used to characterise lateral position, speed, heading and interval times for different types and sizes of ships. However, the distributions for different characteristics of ship behaviours differ significantly

Assembly FG: An Education Case Study Using QuickBooks as the AIS for a Small Manufacturing Business

    No full text
ABSTRACT This education case is the first to use QuickBooks Premier Accountant to teach students foundation functionalities common to all Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems that support discrete manufacturing. Students learn how to configure QuickBooks so that direct materials, direct labor and applied manufacturing overhead costs charged to work-in-process parts manufactured at lower levels of the BOM are rolled up into the costs of higher-level work-in-process parts and, ultimately, into the costs of the finished goods parts. Students set up raw materials, work-in-process and finished goods part numbers so that quantities and costs of parts on-hand are tracked in inventory on the Perpetual Inventory System to provide an inventory subsidiary ledger that continuously matches the manufacturing inventory account balances in the Chart of Accounts. Students learn the importance of configuring Off the Shelf (OTS) manufacturing systems in accurately costing manufactured discrete products, including setting up manufacturing accounts, employees, part numbers, and the BOM. As such, the case is designed to be used in Accounting Information Systems (AIS) courses that are already using QuickBooks to help students' better understand the general concepts covered in AIS textbooks on the Production Cycle that are not addressed in extant textbooks on QuickBooks.</jats:p

Abstract Indonesia needs maritime monitoring system that capable to monitor its extensive territorial waters. One of the maritime monitoring standard system is AIS (Automatic Identification System), a sistem that can monitor the ships, based on GPS and VHF digital communication. By placing AIS receiver on the satellite, its coverage will be larger compared to the one usually placed on the seashore by maritime authority. Lapan-A2 satellite, that will be placed in low-near-equatorial orbit, is the perfect platform for maritime monitoring mission in Indonesia. This paper describes the preparation for implementation of AIS on Lapan-A2 satellite.Hal. 31-48: ilus.; 23 c

AIS Women’s Network: Advancing Women in IS Academia

    No full text
This paper highlights the efforts to support female academics in the information systems (IS) discipline over recent years. The development of the AIS task force on women in IS and the formation of the AIS Women’s Network have been significant initiatives to get the conversation started, yet much work remains. Findings from three separate events (an AIS- and Elsevier Foundation-sponsored survey, a pre-ICIS workshop panel update on the state of current research in the area of women and IS, and an in-depth discussion between workshop attendees at the 2015 AISWN Pre-ICIS Workshop on Advancing Women in IS), clearly indicate issues remain. Therefore, we also develop an agenda for future work to help advance women in the IS discipline
