Leveraging social network analysis with topic models and the Semantic Web

    No full text
Social Network Analysis (SNA) and Web Mining (WM) techniques are being applied to study the structures of social networks in order to manage their dynamics and predict their evolution. This paper describes how we used Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities (SIOC) ontology to represent the (latent) semantic relationships between the members of a large community forum (about 2,500), Plexilandia. We extended SIOC, taking advantage of topic-based text mining and developed data mining algorithms that used our SIOC extensions to provide a better understanding of the social dynamics of the members of the Plexilandia community. This new understanding helped us to detect and discover the key members of Plexilandia successfully

Venezuelan Economic Laboratory. The Case of the Altruistic Economy of Felipe Pérez Martí

    No full text
Felipe Pérez Martí, who was the Venezuelan Minister of Planning and Development in the government of Hugo Chávez, proposes an economic model that he calls the altruistic economy or fourth way, which leads cooperative game theory to its logical extremes postulating a pure communism. Here we sustain that, first, it is impossible in the model of Pérez Martí to marginally allocate non-primary goods to those most in need or who most value them, facing a problem of defective economic calculation, and second, in order to achieve equality, he would have to replace his atomic local planners by a central planner, who would be unable to overcome the problem of imperfect and and incomplete information.altruism, Nash equilibrium, game theory, planning, communism, equality

A framework for people capability enhancement to support sustainable facility management practices

    No full text
Spanning over a considerable length of time, facility management is a key phase in the development cycle of built assets. Therefore facility managers are in a commanding position to maximise the potential of sustainability through the operation, maintenance and upgrade of built facilities leading to decommission and deconstruction. Sustainability endeavours in facility management practices will not only contribute to reducing energy consumption, waste and running costs, but also help improve organisational productivity, financial returns and community standing of the organisation. At the forefront facing sustainability challenge, facility manager should be empowered with the necessary knowledge and capabilities. However, literature studies show a gap between the current level of awareness and the specific knowledge and necessary skills required to pursue sustainability in the profession. People capability is considered as the key enabler in managing the sustainability agenda as well as being central to the improvement of competency and innovation in an organization. This paper aims to identify the critical factors for enhancing people capabilities in promoting the sustainability agenda in facility management practices. Starting with a total of 60 factors identified through literature review, the authors conducted a questionnaire survey to assess the perceived importance of these factors. The findings reveal 23 critical factors as significantly important. They form the basis of a mechanism framework developed to equip facility managers with the right knowledge, to continue education and training and to develop new mind-sets to enhance the implementation of sustainability measures in FM practices

These papers prove that during the reign of Felipe V the Jesuit Royal Confessionary bore the final responsibility for transferring prelates or filling vacant bishoprics.
