Assessment of Ultra-Processed Foods consumption and its impact on health: validation of a Food-Frequency Questionnaire and cross-sectional survey among Italian working adults - Study protocol
In recent years, a new way of thinking about food classification has emerged, no longer based on nutritional content but on processing. A clear example is NOVA classification, developed by Monteiro et al. in 2009, which divides foods into four categories. The fourth group, ultra-processed foods (UPFs), has attracted significant interest, so much so that increasing evidence suggests a potential association between high UPFs consumption and the development of Noncommunicable chronic diseases, overweight and obesity. However, the various limitations identified within the NOVA classification and in currently available studies have led to the recognition that further research is needed. Starting from a critical reassessment of the NOVA classification, this project aims to validate a Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) specifically designed to estimate the consumption of UPFs, as well as the daily intake of macro- and micronutrients in the total diet, and, in a second phase, to assess its impact on health in a sample of Italian workers.
This study will involve a minimum of 436 healthy males and females aged ≥18 years, resident in Italy and with Italian citizenship. Enrolment will be carried out nationwide in selected workplaces. Participants’ membership will be voluntary, subject to a written informed consent, and disseminated using the organisations’ mailing list. Based on previously validated tools, the online self-administered FFQ will consider the differences between packaged, homemade and artisanal products, reflecting dietary habits of Italians. For each item, the frequency
of consumption and the serving size, using household units and images illustrating dishes in different portion sizes, will be indicated. To assess the tool's temporal stability, it will be administered on two separate occasions, at an interval of 3 to 10 months, and the data obtained will be compared. Additionally, participants will be asked to complete a 7-day weighed dietary record in the week following each administration to validate the FFQ. Data on demographic factors, socio-economic status and health status will also be collected and analysed.
The results will provide a new valid tool focused on food processing, potentially useful for future studies
Contro i nemici della risata : Le stagioni teatrali di Umberto Simonetta al Teatro Gerolamo
Direttore del Teatro Gerolamo fra il 1978 e il 1983, Umberto Simonetta è stato autore, regista e produttore di numerose pièce di successo, fra le quali Sta per venire la rivoluzione e non ho niente da mettermi (con Livia Cerini), Mi voleva Strehler (con Maurizio Micheli), che ha oltre mille repliche all’attivo, Ne ho mangiata troppa (con il figlio adottivo Luca Sandri).Head of the Teatro Gerolamo between 1978 and 1983, Umberto Simonetta was the author, director and producer of numerous successful plays, among which The revolution is about to come and I have nothing to wear (with Livia Cerini), I wanted Strehler (with Maurizio Micheli), who has over a thousand repeats to his credit, I ate too much (with his adopted son Luca Sandri)
Prion uptake in the gut: Identification of the first uptake and replication sites
After oral exposure, prions are thought to enter Peyer's patches via M cells and accumulate first upon follicular dendritic cells (FDCs) before spreading to the nervous system. How prions are actually initially acquired from the gut lumen is not known. Using high-resolution immunofluorescence and cryo-immunogold electron microscopy, we report the trafficking of the prion protein (PrP) toward Peyer's patches of wild-type and PrP-deficient mice. PrP was transiently detectable at 1 day post feeding (dpf) within large multivesicular LAMP1-positive endosomes of enterocytes in the follicle-associated epithelium (FAE) and at much lower levels within M cells. Subsequently, PrP was detected on vesicles in the late endosomal compartments of macrophages in the subepithelial dome. At 7–21 dpf, increased PrP labelling was observed on the plasma membranes of FDCs in germinal centres of Peyer's patches from wild-type mice only, identifying FDCs as the first sites of PrP conversion and replication. Detection of PrP on extracellular vesicles displaying FAE enterocyte-derived A33 protein implied transport towards FDCs in association with FAE-derived vesicles. By 21 dpf, PrP was observed on the plasma membranes of neurons within neighbouring myenteric plexi. Together, these data identify a novel potential M cell-independent mechanism for prion transport, mediated by FAE enterocytes, which acts to initiate conversion and replication upon FDCs and subsequent infection of enteric nerves.Quantum NanoscienceApplied Science
Paranoia and irony in the Anglophone dectective narrative and the novels of Umberto Eco
The thesis provides a reading of Umberto Eco's three novels, The Name of the
Rose, Foucault's Pendulum, and The Island of the Day Before, that, while it
acknowledges the importance of the Italian literary tradition in which they stand, also
seeks to explain why their author appeals so frequently to literary models outside
Italy, and in particular the Anglo-American detective genre.
Chapter One explains Eco's relationship to the development of Italian literature
through his lifetime. It is noted that Eco is beginning, both in his semiotics and his
fiction, from a position where post-structuralism has been extensively explored by
neo-avant-gardew riters. Eco positions himself alongsides uchw riters as Italo Calvino
and Jorge Luis Borges, who wish to explore the ludic possibilities of working within
structures, while all the time acknowledging the epistemological limitations of so
doing. Eco's chosen structure, more often than not, is the highly defined genre of
the detective story.
From here, the following chapters engage in close readings of the three novels,
with particular emphasis on The Name of the Rose and Foucault's Pendulum,
demonstrating that they explore problems of interpretation central to the detective
narrative. In doing this, they display an intimate knowledge of generic developments
within the detective tradition, and of the philosophical and aesthetic uses made of the
genre by other writers. The embedding of intertextual references to other detective
narratives within Eco's novels is an important factor, as they come together to form
a narrative of epistemological inquiry that itself follows Eco's philosophical progress
through the years. In short, the novels, inter alia, map a systematic inquiry into the
possibility of systematic inquiry. They reserve the space to engage in such an ironic
and self-referential project precisely through their fictionality
Author Correction: Multisensory task demands temporally extend the causal requirement for visual cortex in perception
The original version of this Article incorrectly included the 6th author Cyriel M. A. Pennartz as a corresponding author. The correct version lists only 7th author Umberto Olcese as corresponding author. In addition, the original version of the Article omitted to include a statement to indicate that Cyriel M. A. Pennartz and Umberto Olcese jointly supervised the work. This has been corrected in both the PDF and HTML versions of the Article

Between Author and Text
Lithuanian translation of 'Between Author and Text' by Umberto Eco
Umberto Eco's "Open Work" and the Bible
In this study the author presents the concept of the Umberto Eco’s model of "open work". The question is: if this model can be applied to Bible. Umberto Eco argued that literary texts have many fields of meaning, that they are understood as open, internally dynamic and psychologically engaged fields. We can say the same about Bible. The model of "open works" is very useful in the research of relation between Bible and a reader of Saint text. The model of "open works" does not include verification function of the community and Tradition
