Long non-coding RNA and extracellular matrix: the hidden players in cancer-stroma cross-talk
Currently available high-throughput technologies combined with bioinformatics analyses revealed that nearly 80% of the genome is transcribed, whereas only 2% of the genetic code is translated in proteins. In the landscape of non-coding RNA, the long non-coding RNA (>200 nucleotides) is a newer class of ncRNAs, with a potential pivotal role in homeostatic and pathological mechanisms, confirmed by increasing emerging evidences in different diseases, especially in cancer. In parallel, recent studies have demonstrated that as cancer progresses, extracellular matrix co-evolves into an activated state through continuous biochemical and structural modifications. In this review, we synthesize these themes by exploring the functional cross-talk between lncRNAs and their involvement in ECM regulation and remodeling within the tumor microenvironment
Infine, questa tecnica richiede un attento follow-up ed adattamenti dei parametri elettrici per ottimizzare l’equilibrio tra i sistemi neurologiciVesico-urethral dysfunction is a major problem in daily medical practice due to its psychological disturbances, its social costs and its high impact on quality of life. Recently, sacral neuromodulation, namely the electrical stimulation of the sacral nerves, appears to have become an alternative for radical bladder surgery particularly in cases of idiopathic bladder over¬activity. The mechanism of action is only partially understood but it seems to involve a modulation in the spinal cord due to stimulation of inhibitory interneurons.
Temporary sacral nerve stimulation is the first step. It comprises the temporary application of neuromodulation as a diagnostic test to deter¬mine the best location for the implant and to control the integrity of the sacral root. If test stimulation is successful, a permanent device is implanted. This procedure is safe in experienced hands.
So-called idiopathic bladder overactivity still the major indication for this technique. Patients not likely to benefit from the procedure were those with complete or almost complete spinal lesions, but incomplete spinal lesions seemed to be a potential indication. This technique is now also indicated in the case of idiopathic chronic retention and chronic pelvic pain syndrome.
When selection is performed, more than three-quarters of the patients showed a clinically significant response with 50% or more reduction in the frequency of incontinent episodes, but the results vary according to the author’s mode of evaluation. From the economic point of view, the initial investment in the device is amortized in the mid-term by savings related to lower urinary tract dysfunction.
Finally, this technique requires an attentive follow-up and adjustments to the electric parameters so as to optimize the equilibrium between the neurological system

Big data and analytics: Opportunities and challenges for firm performance
The phenomenon called Big Data (BD) refers to the presence of large amounts of data that are both structured and unstructured, coming from heterogeneous sources, both internal and external to the companies. These must coexist with such amounts of data, affording challenges, and taking opportunities to improve their performance. For this reason, there is a growing demand for systems, methods, and tools favoring data processing and analysis (i.e., Big Data Analytics or BDA). The literature regarding the impact of BD and BDA on firm performance still appears fragmented and lacks an overall perspective on the matter. This work aims to systematize the recent literature about such impact, providing four perspectives of analysis. First, the corporate decision-making process needs to change because of BD exploitation and BDA implementation, inducing entities to change routines and require additional skills. Second, education and training represent a central matter to state peoples’ centrality in the process of change implied by the digital transformation. Indeed, data users remain the cornerstone of the entire process if they are and will increasingly be able to adequately manage data. In this sense, people, together with culture and technology, represent both the main barriers and the potential solutions to the here examined process of change. In particular, technology (i.e., the last perspective of analysis here examined) is increasingly and continuously going toward unexplored and unthinkable frontiers, enlarging the gap between what is recommended by scholars and what is actually implemented by decision-makers. These should embrace that the data-driven process of change is not a topic of discussion for future occurrence: It is a present corporate opportunity implying some risks and challenges
Embryonic stem cells and inducible pluripotent stem cells: two faces of the same coin?
Embryonic stem cells (ESCs) are derived from the inner cell mass of the blastocysts and are characterized by the ability to renew themselves (self-renewal) and the capability to generate all the cells within the human body. In contrast, inducible pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) are generated by transfection of four transcription factors in somatic cells. Like embryonic stem cells, they are able to self-renew and differentiate. Because of these features, both ESCs and iPSCs, are under intense clinical investigation for cell-based therapy. In this review, we revisit stem cell biology and add a new layer of complexity. In particular, we will highlight some of the complexities of the system, but also where there may be therapeutic potential for modulation of intrinsic stem cells and where particular caution may be needed in terms of cell transplantation therapies
