    Distribution of Agapetus spp. in Thailand Sixteen species of Agapetus including the new species are now recorded from Thailand (Figs 2A–2D). Most of our country’s Agapetus spp. have been reported from northern Thailand. Agapetus halong is a widespread species which is found from northern Thailand through western Thailand, northeastern Thailand, and the Thai Peninsula, and this species is recorded also from Vietnam, which is in the same Indochinese sub-region of the Oriental Region (Armitage et al. 2005; Malicky 2010). Agapetus dangorum is also a widespread species which is found from northern Thailand through the Thai Peninsula and also has been recorded from Vietnam (Armitage et al. 2005; Malicky 2010). However, this species has not been recorded from the Malay Peninsula (Malicky 2010). Agapetus gotgian and A. gonophorus also inhabit both northern Thailand and Vietnam (Malicky 2010; Armitage et al. 2005). Recently a collection of caddisflies from hill evergreen forest in Tai Rom Yen National Park demonstrated that A. viricatus, previously known only from northern Thailand, was found in southern Thailand where the elevation is 900–1200 m a.s.l. Nine species of Agapetus spp. are endemic, having been reported from only northern Thailand (Indochinese sub-region), including A. abdeel, A. atuus, A. esinertus, A. lalus, A. phorkys, A. quordus, A. seheliel, A. vercondarius, and A. voccus. New South Wales: Mt Kosciuszko National park, 3.6 km SW of Thredbow, nr Dead Horse Gap, 15–17.iii.2003, 7 males 7 females, C.Lambkin, N. Starick, J. Recsei, ANIC. Diagnosis: Males are distinguished from the rest of the Australian species by segment IX clearly angulate and phallic apparatus with a pair of striated parameres, by having a sharp dorsolateral spine on each lobe of segment X, cerci narrow and elongate, and gonopods stout and each with a mesally directed spine or spur on both the dorsal and ventral apical margins. Female: Shows no distinctive features. Forewing length: Male 2.7–4.7 mm; female 3.7–4.8 mm.     Agapetus ablusus Neboiss (Fig. 45) Agapetus ablusus Neboiss, 1986 a: 214, figs 7–12. Material examined: Holotype male: Victoria: Dee River 2 km NW of Millgrove (NMV-T- 8178). Paratypes, Victoria: upper Acheron River, 37 ° 38 ’S 145 ° 42 ’E, 9.i.1957, 2 males, A. Neboiss, ANIC. Victoria: 49 samples from central and eastern montane areas, NMV. Diagnosis: This species resembles A. vicanthicus in having a tooth on segment X but is identified readily as the only Australian species with bilobed gonopods. The phallic apparatus bears patches of spinules or microtrichia. Female: Lacking any distinctive features. Forewing length: Male 4–5 mm; female 3.8–4.8 mm (Neboiss 1986 b). Distribution.     Agapetus dayi Ross Figs 4 a, 4 b, 26 Agapetus (Synagapetus) dayi Ross, 1956: 162. Material examined: Holotype male: New South Wales: Bathurst, BMNH [originally a paratype of A. pontona]; 71 samples from eastern Victoria and 7 from southern New South Wales, NMV; 3 samples from northern Victoria, ANIC. Diagnosis: Males are distinguished from those of the similar A. pontona, with which A. dayi was confused initially, by having gonopods with the distal ventromesal margin sclerotised and bearing a 2 nd black tooth medially; the cerci are parallel-sided and rounded apically, not club-shaped as in A. cralus, and less so in A. laparus and A. pontona. In ventral view A. dayi closely resembles A. monticolus, but A. dayi is readily distinguished by the narrow cerci and the absence of any sclerotisation on segment X. The phallic apparatus of Agapetus dayi includes a pair of parameres that are constricted medially, striated distally. Females exhibit no particularly distinctive features. Forewing length: Male 2.8–3.9 mm; female 4.4–5.1 mm.     Agapetus evansi Ross Fig. 11 Agapetus evansi Ross, 1956: 162. Material examined: Paratype: New South Wales: 1 male, Ebor, BMNH [collected with holotype; both specimens were designated as paratypes of A. pontona by Mosely (in Mosely & Kimmins 1953)]. Diagnosis: In the form of the cerci and segment X, the male of this species most closely resembles that of A. stclairae, but it is distinguished by the triangular shape of the gonopods. Forewing length: Male 5.5 mm. Remarks: Ross (1956) distinguished A. evansi from the other Australian species on the grounds that it has a setate process basally on each gonopod. This feature is shared by A. stclairae sp. nov., with which species A. evansi also shares a set of 4 rounded papillae at about the middle of the phallic apparatus. Material examined: Holotype male: Victoria: Fernshaw, BMNH. 144 samples from central and eastern Victoria and eastern New South Wales, NMV. Diagnosis. This species resembles A. mittamitta sp. nov. and A. tasmanicus in the general appearance of the male genitalia, but A. kimminsi (Figs 17 a, 17 b) in lateral view has the gonopods narrower basally and segment X in lateral view has only a short sclerotised strip mid-dorsally. The female of A. kimminsi is distinctive (Fig. 23) with abdominal segment VIII in the form of a sclerotised annulus, with 2 small lobes anteroventrally, in comparison with the female of A. mittamitta sp. nov. which has segment VIII less strongly sclerotised, forming 2 separate plates ventrally and without anteroventral lobes. Forewing length: Male 3.2–3.7 mm; female 3.3–3.5 mm. Diagnosis: Closely similar to A. cralus, but both sexes distinguished by absence of the caudally directed mesal process on abdominal sternite VI. Neboiss (1977) described and figured some small differences in the shape of the gonopods and segment X. Forewing length: Male, 4.0– 4.5 mm; female 3.7–4.1 mm. Distribution: Restricted to southwestern Tasmania. Remarks: The small differences described for A. laparus by Neboiss (1977) fall within the range of variability in specimens identified in this study as A. cralus. However, males that lack the abdominal sternite VI process, and therefore are identified as A. laparus, have been taken from several separate sites.
