    UJI KANDUNGAN PENCEMARAN TIMBAL PADA HASIL LAUT DI KABUPATEN BANYUWANGI

    Pencemaran logam timbal berdampak bagi kesehatan manusia seperti kerusakan saat pembentukan eritrosit dan sifat logam berat yang akumulatif sehingga jika masuk ke dalam tubuh akan menimbulkan efek jangka panjang. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur kadar timbal pada makanan secara kuantitatif. Metodologi penelitian ini bersifat observasional deskriptif dimana peneliti menggunakan alat Rapid Test Kit Pb yang dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Kesehatan Lingkungan PSDKU Universitas Airlangga di Banyuwangi pada tanggal 18 Februari 2020. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh sampel berupa makanan jenis hasil laut dan makanan kaleng. Pengambilan sampel dilakukan secara acak pada 15 pedagang yang berada di pasar tradisional, tiap 1 pedagang diambil 1 sampel dengan menggunakan total sampling yaitu sebanyak 15 sampel. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 1 sampel yang mengandung timbal yaitu pada terasi udang yang memperoleh hasil test strip Pb dengan kadar 20 mg/l Pb2+ sedangkan 14 sampel lainnya masih berada dalam batas aman yaitu hasil test strip Pb dengan kadar 0 mg/1 Pb2+. Hasil Pb pada terasi udang melebihi batas maksimum yaitu sebesar 1,0 mg/kg sesuai dengan peraturan Kepala Badan Pengawas Obat dan Makanan Republik Indonesia Nomor HK.00.06.1.52.4011 tahun 2009. Saran bagi pemerintah, bidang industri pangan dan konsumen diharapkan dapat bekerjasama untuk mencegah dampak negatif terhadap tubuh akibat logam timbal pada makanan

A very important role can be played by higher education institutions and other public bodies. I discuss some of the measures being taken and critically evaluate these to show how these can be improved. In the absence of a centralised admission system and autonomy exercised by HEIs it is not clear yet how these targets will be achieved. HEFCE and OFFA play a very important role but there is scope towards addressing equality and diversity. The paper discusses some of the ways forward

    Cerebellar infarction following division of Dandy\u27s vein in microvascular decompression for trigeminal neuralgia

    Objectives: Does dividing Dandy\u27s (superior petrosal) or other tentorial veins increase the risk of cerebellar infarction following microvascular decompression (MVD) of the trigeminal nerve? Design: A retrospective review of all patients with trigeminal neuralgia who underwent MVD by the senior author between 1999 and 2012. Materials and Methods: Patients were identified from operative logbooks and discharge summaries. Data were collected from the medical notes. Results: Of 162 patients who underwent microvascular decompression of the trigeminal nerve, we had a 96% follow-up rate, which provided 156 of the operative cases for review. Over 75% report to be neuralgia free at first follow-up. Cerebellar infarction occurred in six patients, all of whom had division of the superior petrosal or tentorial veins. Fifty-one patients did not suffer cerebellar infarction following division of Dandy\u27s or other tentorial veins. In our series, this gives an overall risk of 3.85% of cerebellar infarction following microvascular decompression of the trigeminal nerve. In the group of patients that had division of the veins, 9.5% experienced cerebellar infarction. Conclusions: Since Walter Dandy\u27s original description of microvascular decompression of the trigeminal nerve through a retrosigmoid approach, it has been suggested that it is safe to divide the superior petrosal or any other bridging vein. In this series of 156 cases, 6 patients experienced a cerebellar infarction associated with the division of part of Dandy\u27s vein alone or in association with division of tentorial veins. We would suggest that with a rate of 9.5% of cerebellar venous infarction, division of any bridging veins should only be considered if absolutely necessary

    Out of care, into university: raising higher education access and achievement of care leavers

    Around 40,000 children are estimated to require out-of-home care in Australia and this number has risen every year over the past decade (Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, 2014a). Young people up to 18 years who are unable to live with their birth families are placed in different forms of out-of-home care, including kinship care, foster care, residential care, family group homes, and independent living. People who spent time in out-of-home care before the age of 18 are subsequently referred to as care leavers when they transition out of the system. Care leavers rarely transition to higher education. They are largely excluded from the level of education that brings the highest wage premiums and lifetime rewards. Despite their extremely low university participation rates, there is no national agenda for improvement. This research project was conducted by La Trobe University and funded through an external research grant provided by the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) at Curtin University. This report aims to provide the basis for such an agenda by highlighting the nature and extent of the problem, and suggesting practical solutions within both the education and community service sectors. Our research adopted a mixed methods approach and included: a literature review; an examination of national data sets; an online survey of public universities in Australia; and interviews with senior representatives from major out-of-home care service providers. We provide recommendations targeted to the Australian Government, state and territory governments, higher education institutions, and community service organisations. Three reforms are required to improve the access and achievement of care leavers in higher education: The collection of nationally consistent data on higher education access and outcomes for care leavers. Policy reform within the education and community service sectors including greater recognition of this under-represented student cohort and support for the transition of young people from out-of-home care to adulthood. An over-arching need for cultural change that challenges the often low expectations for care leavers

U kontekstu kontroverzi o tome pokreću li integracije supranacionalni ili međudržavni čimbenici, autor, na drugoj razini, analizira razvoj Europske unije u smjeru horizontalnog odnosa između tržišta i države te vertikalnog odnosa između Unije i država članica. Treća razina analize odnosi se na promišljanje državne konstitucije i želje Europske unije da se institucijski i politički produbi. Ideja europskog ustava razumijeva se kao još jedan napor u pripremi institucija i pravnih jamstava koji trebaju olakšati stvaranje jedinstva. Rad završava još jednim pokušajem terapeutske reformulacije postojećeg odnosa Hrvatske i europskih integracija.The first level of analysis in the article reveals that the policy of sequential growth permitted the European Union to surpass the breadth-depth trade off problem which would have emerged if a more aggressive strategy had been applied and if the European Union had been formed on the inclusive basis. In the context of controversies whether integration is propelled by supranational or interstate factors, on the second level the author analyzes development of the European Union in the direction of horizontal relation between market and state and vertical relation between the Union and member states. The third level of the analysis ponders upon state constitution and desire of the European Union to strengthen and build up on institutional and political level. The idea of European Constitution is perceived as yet another effort in preparation of institutions and legal guarantees which should facilitate creation of unity. The article concludes with one more attempt of therapeutic reformulation of the present relation between Croatia and European integrations

    Enhancing Widening Participation Evaluation through the development of a self-assessment tool for practitioners: Learning from the Standards of Evaluation Practice (Phase 2) project 2017-2019

The final version is available from the Open University via the DOI in this recordThe ultimate goal of widening participation work, that unites policy makers, practitioners and academics, is to enhance outcomes for disadvantaged students in HE access, success and outcomes. This article presents the Office for Students (OfS) commissioned project ‘Understanding effective evaluation of the impact of outreach interventions on access to higher education: Phase Two’. This project sought to create a step-change in robustness of evidence used and evaluation practices. Our 2017-19 project explored evaluation practices among nine partner organisations drawn from higher education providers (HEPs) and third sector partners. The initial aim was to pilot test the Standards of Evidence developed during Phase One research, to share practices that work and highlight examples of best practice. As the project developed, a further outcome of the project was envisaged through ongoing discussions between the OfS, academics, HEPs and third-sector parties: a self-assessment tool for evaluation practitioners. This tool provides a framework and guidance which allows practitioners to map their own evaluation approaches. Through using prompts, the five dimensions of the tool highlight strengths and weaknesses of evaluation within five domains (strategic context, programme design, evaluation design, evaluation design and learning). This new tool is in effect a five point framework setting guidance about good evaluation practice. It was rolled out to all HEPs in spring 2019 when providers were invited to return the completed tool and their reflection as part of their Access and Participation planning.Office for Fair Access (OFFA

    Uses of Wodan : The development of his cult and of medieval literary responses to it

    Scholars working on Germanic pre-christian religion have generally considered Wodan to have been a deity of considerable importance to most if not all Germanic tribes. This understanding is, however, based on a failure to approach the available evidence for Wodan within appropriate contemporary contexts. This thesis recontextualises the evidence, therefore, building a model of the general nature of Germanic heathenisms in the Migration Age, within which the cult of Wodan can be located. Set against this model, and with due consideration given to its social, political and religious contexts, the earliest evidence for Wodan can be seen as the beginning of a christian reimagination of this deity. A plausible model of Wodan's cult is established, which sees this cult as being geographically limited, and originating probably within the first half millenium of the Common Era; the cult of Odinn would appear, moreover, to be substantially separate in development from that of Wodan. Furthermore, a complex set of eighth-century scholarly re-uses of Wodan are shown to have shaped subsequent understandings of the deity, both in the medieval period and up to the present day. Having considered how the traditions of eighth-century scholarship have misled modern scholarship, the thesis then examines the further development of these traditions in Anglo-Saxon England. In this context, Wodan assumes still more various guises, and is conflated with Odinn, thus helping to cement modern scholarship's belief in the original unity of these two figures. This process is strengthened, moreover, by the strong influence which Anglo-Saxon England exerted on Scandinavia both around the time of the conversion of Scandinavia and at the period when much of the extant Scandinavian mythography was written down. This Scandinavian mythography is examined briefly in the final chapter, which points out some important areas of misreading of pre-christian mythology in thirteenthcentury Scandinavian mythography, as well as arguing for substantial extra-Scandinavian influences on such mythography. This leads, finally, to a consideration of how Odinn appears in what little certainly pre-christian evidence exists for him

    The life and works of Osbert of Clare

    Osbert of Clare was an English monastic writer, whose works extended from the mid-1120s to the mid-1150s. His Latin hagiography reflects a deep admiration for Anglo-Saxon saints and spirituality, while his letters provide a personal perspective on his turbulent career. As prior of Westminster Abbey, Osbert of Clare worked to strengthen the rights and prestige of his monastery. His production of forged or altered charters makes him one of England's most prolific medieval forgers. At times his passion for reform put him at odds with his abbots, and he was sent into exile under both Abbot Herbert (1121-c.1136) and Abbot Gervase (1138-c.1157). Also Osbert, as one of the first proponents of the Immaculate Conception of Mary, wrote about the feast, worked to legitimize its celebration, and provided us with the only significant narration of its introduction to England. This thesis is divided into two sections. The first section is principally historical and the second is principally literary. In the first section, I provide an overview of Osbert of Clare's career and examine in greater detail two of his most significant undertaking: his promotion of Westminster Abbey and his attempted canonization of Edward the Confessor. In the second section, I give a philological study of Osbert Latin style and examine themes that nm throughout his writings, such as virginity, exile and kingship. Osbert's promotion of the feast of the Immaculate Conception is included in the second section of the thesis because of its ties to the themes of virginity and femininity within his writings. There are also two appendices: the first is a survey of the extant manuscripts of Osbert's writings, and the second is an edition of Osbert's unpublished Life of St Ethelbert from Gotha, Forschungsbibliothek MS Memb. i. 8l

Como fenômeno integrador de cultura e história na sociedade, o crioulo jamaicano gera interesses múltiplos, segundo mostram a diversidade de estudos sobre essa língua e as diferentes questões de pesquisa em campos acadêmicos diversos, incluindo a linguística, a educação, a sociologia, a filosofia, entre outros. Seguindo um método cartográfico apoiado com o fundamento teórico da uma análise rizomática (Deleuze e GUATTARI, 1978), a tese apresenta um estudo panorâmico sobre o crioulo jamaicano, visando encontrar pontos de encontro entre a visão rizomática proposta para entender o desenvolvimento da língua jamaicana e os dados gerados a partir de entrevistas com os professores participantes. A tese discute aspectos diversos relacionados com a língua crioula jamaicana e apresenta uma interpretação de narrativas baseada nas percepções e concepções de língua prevalentes entre professores de espanhol como língua estrangeira na ilha. Estes professores compartilham com a autora interesses profissionais, especificamente por serem professores de línguas, o que aporta uma perspectiva diferente, dado que, ao considerar os assuntos das línguas, tanto os participantes quanto a autora estão incluindo pontos de vista que incluem a língua como um produto sociohistórico de amplo uso social e a língua como objeto de ensino. As narrativas interpretadas, portanto, incluem as experiências e ângulos pessoais de professores falantes nativos do crioulo jamaicano que têm informação de primeira mão sobre a realidade social dessa língua e sobre o seu impacto sobre a língua estrangeira que eles ensinam (espanhol). Consequentemente, a pesquisa sobre as narrativas compartilhadas e pessoais dos professores participantes mostra visões nascidas das experiências profissionais como professores de língua, e das suas próprias vidas dentro do contexto jamaicano. Conduzido entre professores jamaicanos que trabalham no contexto de educação secundária na Jamaica, o estudo conduz à interpretação de que esses participantes compartilham narrativas que têm a ver com a sua vida profissional e social, segundo há sido inferido de observações nas escolas, dos seus critérios e ideias nas entrevistas e conversas. Igualmente, a tese apresenta uma interpretação dos pontos de encontro entre as narrativas dos participantes com aquelas encontradas em publicações da mídia, as redes sociais, e conversas com pessoas proeminentes da sociedade jamaicana. O fato de não ser falante do crioulo jamaicano colocou à pesquisadora no papel de "outsider". No entanto, esse papel contribuiu para enriquecer o processo devido à experiência profissional e pessoal da autora como professora de espanhol e moradora da Jamaica há mais de 20 anos. Essa informação e vivências tem contribuído no desenvolvimento da própria narrativa da autora e conformaram uma outra perspectiva possível para interpretar o rico contexto jamaicano e as suas contradições lógicas. CartografiaAbstract: Jamaica, one of the largest islands in the Caribbean, shares a history of colonization, immigration and culture convergence with other islands in the region, which has resulted in the creation of a diverse culture and a Creole language. As a phenomenon of sociocultural and sociohistorical integration, Jamaican Creole generates multiple interests; as shown by the diversity of language studies and the various research interests in several academic fields, including Linguistics, Education, Sociology, Philosophy, among others. Based on a cartographic approach, as proposed in DELEUZE & GUATTARI (1978) the thesis discusses various aspects pertaining to the language situation in Jamaica, especially the matter of Jamaican Creole, and presents an interpretation of narratives based on the language perceptions and conceptions prevailing amongst teachers of Spanish as a foreign language in the island. The thesis presents a discussion on various aspects pertaining to Jamaican Creole and an interpretation of participant's narratives about such situation, based on a study of the most prevalent language conceptions and perceptions found in this particular group composed of Jamaican Creole speakers involved in the teaching of Spanish in the island. The participating teachers and the author share common professional interests due to the fact that, being language teachers, they bring forth a different perspective to the discussion and analysis of language matters, particularly in connection with the socio-historical nature of languages and their use in education. The narratives interpreted, therefore, include the experiences and personal angles of teachers, who are native speakers of Jamaican Creole and who also have first-hand information about the social reality of that language, as well as its impact on the foreign language they teach (Spanish). Consequently, the research delved on the shared and personal narratives of language professionals, as views emerging from their personal and professional experiences within the context of Jamaica. After presenting a panoramic study of the language situation in Jamaica, based on a rhizomatic view of language development, the thesis discusses the data generated from interviews and unstructured conversations with Secondary Education Spanish teachers, most of whom are operating within a sociolinguistic context characterized by the presence of two languages: English (the official language of education) and Creole (the popular language). The study leads to the interpretation that these participants share narratives that involve their professional and social lives, as inferred from observations at their work spaces, their criteria and the ideas presented during interviews and conversations. Furthermore, the thesis presents an interpretation of connecting points between participant's narratives and those found in media publications, social network debates, and conversations with prominent Jamaicans. The fact of not being a Jamaican Creole speaker puts the researcher in a role of an "outsider". However, such role contributed to enrich the process due to the professional and personal experience of the author as a Spanish teacher and resident of Jamaica for more than 20 years. The sharing of information and experiences have contributed in the development of her own narrative and has brought forth yet another perspective to interpret the rich and multiple Jamaican context and its logical contradictions. Como fenómeno integrador de cultura e historia en la sociedad, el criollo jamaicano genera múltiples intereses, según muestra la diversidad de estudios sobre el lenguaje y los distintos problemas de investigación en varios campos académicos, incluyendo la educación, la sociología, la lingüística, la filosofía, entre otros. Siguiendo un método cartográfico, basado en el fundamento teórico que ofrece el análisis rizomático (DELEUZE y GUATTARI, 1978), la tesis presenta un estudio panorámico sobre el criollo jamaicano, que tiene por objetivo encontrar y analizar puntos comunes entre la visión rizomática que se propone, para analizar el desarrollo del lenguaje jamaiquino, y los datos generados a partir de entrevistas con los profesores participantes. La tesis analiza diversos aspectos relacionados con la lengua criolla de Jamaica y presenta una interpretación de narrativas, en base a algunas percepciones y concepciones de lenguaje que existen entre los profesores de español participantes. Estos docentes comparten intereses profesionales con la autora, específicamente por el hecho de ser profesores de lenguas extranjeras. Tal hecho genera una perspectiva diferente, dado que, tanto los participantes como la autora aportan puntos de vistas que consideran aspectos del lenguaje como un producto sociohistórico de amplio uso social, incluyendo la educación. Las narrativas interpretadas, por tanto, incluyen experiencias y ángulos personales de profesores que son hablantes de criollo jamaicano, por lo que tienen información de primera mano sobre la realidad social de ese idioma y su impacto en la lengua extranjera que imparten (español). En consecuencia, la investigación sobre narrativas compartidas y personales de los profesores participantes muestra visiones relacionadas con las experiencias profesionales y de vivencia de los participantes dentro del contexto jamaicano. Sus experiencias y puntos de vista han conducido a una interpretación de narrativas, apoyada no solamente en los criterios e ideas presentados en las entrevistas, sino también en observaciones cartográficas del entorne característicos de sus escuelas. Al mismo tiempo, la tesis presenta una interpretación de los puntos de encuentro entre las narrativas de los participantes y las emergentes de publicaciones de los medios, redes sociales y conversaciones con personalidades de la sociedad jamaicana. El hecho de no ser hablante de criollo jamaicano puso a la autora en un rol de "outsider". Sin embargo, esa función contribuyó a enriquecer el proceso debido a su experiencia personal y profesional como profesora de español y residente de Jamaica durante más de 20 años. Esta información y experiencia ha contribuido en el desarrollo de su propia narrativa, a la vez que aporta otra perspectiva posible para interpretar el rico y múltiple contexto jamaicano y sus contradicciones lógicas.
