    ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ABILITY IN FINDING CONJUNCTION IN SHORT STORIES AT SMP PGRI 3 MEDAN

    This study examines the use of conjunctions in short stories for class VIII students of SMP PGRI 3 Medan. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of students' understanding in learning English by using short stories. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The research data is in the form of short stories containing conjunctions taken from 2 short story texts. Data analysis begins by dividing data into 3 groups, namely conjunctions between words, conjunctions between clauses, and between sentences. Furthermore, the conjunctions of each group are examined one by one and then explain and calculate the use of conjunctions in the students' short stories. From the data analysis it can be concluded: first, the conjunctions used in student short stories include conjunctions between words including and (13 times), which (9 times), but (1 time), until (1 time). As for the conjunctions between clauses, they are as follows but (1 time). Furthermore, data analysis of the use of conjunctions between sentences is obtained as follows: then conjunction (1 time). Based on the results of the research above, it is hoped that this research will become material for consideration for teachers in teaching the use of conjunctions in students' short stories. The researcher hopes that students of the English language education study program are more careful in using conjunctions. The researcher also hopes that other researchers will examine the same or similar things so that the research results can contribute to the world of education
