Typology-aware neural dependency parsing : challenges and directions

While this linguistic information has shown great promise in pre-neural parsing, results for neural architectures have been mixed. The aim of the investigation put forth in this thesis is to better understand this state-of-the-art. Our main findings are as follows: 1) The benefit of typological information is derived from coarsely grouping languages into syntactically-homogeneous clusters rather than from learning to leverage variations along individual typological dimensions in a compositional manner; 2) Typology consistent with the actual corpus statistics yields better transfer performance; 3) Typological similarity is only a rough proxy of cross-lingual transferability with respect to parsing. Edith L. Fisch, First Female Law Professor in New York State
No full textEdith Fisch, author of the treatise Fisch on New York Evidence, was the first female law professor in New York State when she began teaching at New York Law School in 1962. She was also the first woman to earn the J.S.D. degree at Columbia University Law School and the first person ever to earn all degrees awarded by the law school, receiving her LL.B. in 1948, her LL.M. in 1949, and her J.S.D. in 1950. Professor Fisch served as president of the New York Women\u27s Bar Association from 1970 to 1971. Antioxidant and Hepatoprotective Activity of Veronica ciliata Fisch Extracts Against Carbon Tetrachloride-Induced Liver Injury in Mice
No full textVeronica ciliata Fisch. has been traditionally used in Traditional Chinese Medicine prescriptions due to its curative effects for hepatitis, cholecystitis, rheumatism, and urticaria. The present study was focused on investigating the role of ethyl acetate and aqueous extracts of Veronica ciliata Fisch. Furthermore, in vitro antioxidant activity (scavenging of DPPH, ABTS, superoxide, and nitrite radicals; reducing power; beta-carotene bleaching) and the hepatoprotective effect of the ethyl acetate extract by means of CCl4-induced oxidative stress in mice were investigated. The ethyl acetate extract of Veronica ciliata Fisch. displayed more noteworthy in vitro antioxidant activities than the aqueous extract. Moreover, it significantly prevented the increase in serum T-AOC, ALT, AST and ALP level in acute liver damage induced by CCl4, decreased the extent of MDA formation in liver and elevated the activities of SOD and GSH in liver. This activity was found to be comparable to that of bifendate. Histopathological observation of the liver was also performed to further support the evidence from the biochemical analysis. The results indicated that strong antioxidant activities and a significant protective effect against acute hepatotoxicity induced by CCl4 of Veronica ciliata Fisch. were concentrated in the ethyl acetate extract. The results suggested that this activity may be due to free radical-scavenging and antioxidant properties

This chapter argues that the manifest intention of Paradise Lost from the beginning and to its sequel in Paradise Regained is to relate the story of ‘Man’s First Disobedience’ as that which ‘brought Death into the World’, and which would only be set right by the redemptive sacrifice of ‘one greater Man’ who would make good the sin of Adam. Nevertheless, the other narrative which sees the story of Adam and Eve in its Old Testament context as something in between historical fable and moral exemplum is also present as a counterplot.</jats:p
