Research project carried out by a pupil of secondary education and rewarded with a Prize CIRIT to foster the scientific spirit of the Youth in year 2009. From exemplary eggs of two species of agapornis -nigrigenis and lilianae-, it is intended to carry out a comparative study of both, regarding the ethology as well as the reproduction, the alimentary habits, etc. The initial idea is the possibility to exchange some eggs of each species to try to find out if the birds notice such change. The initial hypothesis of the work considers that the birds will raise them in the same way that if it was about their own chicks.
The conclusions, however, have gone beyond the formulation of the initial hypothesis, in such a way that it is analised, in form of diagram, the eclosion or lack of eclosion of the eggs of this species, and relating with the fertility and the size of the eggs. Moreover, the author has also been able to conclude that the Agapornis lilianae are capable of breeding birds of another species (in this case d Agapornis roseicollis) with every normality
Creating inclusive classrooms in primary and secondary schools: From noticing to differentiated practices
Differentiated instruction is advocated as a means to create inclusive classrooms. The hypothesis guiding this study is that teachers' ability to notice inclusive teaching practices and to reason about it are connected to their differentiated practices. Two instruments are adopted to measure this: the e-PIC videography tool, that maps teachers' professional vision, and the DI-Quest, that measures self-reported differentiated practices. Clustering teachers' noticing and reasoning, this study found two groups of teachers. Results reveal that teachers who are more proficient at noticing inclusive practices, also report implementing more differentiated practices, compared to teachers who are less able at noticing them. Management of employee wellness in South Africa: Employer, service provider and union perspectives
Orientation: This article focuses on how South African organisations manage their employees’ wellness through their Employee Wellness Programmes (EWPs).
Research purpose: The objective of this research is to describe employee wellness in South Africa by investigating the types, foci and perceived success of EWPs.
Motivation for the study: Despite the growing awareness of the importance of EWPs in South Africa, the nature, content, context, participants, role-players and anticipated benefits as well as the possible drawbacks of these programmes in the South African context are unclear.
Research design, approach and method: The researchers used a cross-sectional design. The first author developed the Employee Wellness Survey, consisting of quantitative and qualitative questions, to collect data from 16 organisations, four service providers and seven labour unions in South Africa.
Main findings: The results showed that organisations, service providers and labour unions define employee wellness differently and that these role players give different reasons for introducing EWPs. Almost half of the participating organisations have no baseline measurement with which to compare the effectiveness of their EWPs. Generally, all the organisations present the results of their programmes reasonably. However, the programmes involve little overall expenditure to the organisations.
Practical/managerial implications: Organisations should monitor the state of their employees’ wellness in order to manage it effectively. This will only become possible when information about employee wellness improves.
Contribution/value-add: This study provides new information about the nature, content, context, participants, role-players, anticipated benefits and possible drawbacks of EWPs in the South-African context
L'ampolla sostenible
Research project carried out by a pupil of secondary education and rewarded with a Prize CIRIT to foster the scientific spirit of the Youth in year 2009. This essay shows a research study where author wants to design a bottle as much sustainable and eco-efficient as possible.
Beginning with a research about basic design information, author knowledge of plastic containers improves due to different reasons: advices received from a container designer, visit to a company working with plastic and survey results to citizens for knowing bottle consumption of a market study about plastic containers.
The author proposes a sustainable bottle design as a result of a hard work mainly based on imagination and creativity
This research project is a theoretical reflection about literary authorship, with special emphasis on the gender implications of the literary positions and the processes of legitimation in the literary field. Clarice Lispector as a name of author which grouped not only literary texts but also these texts that build the body of the author is the object of our analysis. To carry it out, we analyze the auto(bio)graphic production of Clarice Lispector and those discourses that contribute to the construction of her character: the academic, biographical and media discourses; photographic and audiovisual materials; recreations of the character from different artistic languages (literary, theatrical and film), et
Report for the scientific sojourn carried out at the al Laboratoire de Recherche en Sciences Végétales - Université Toulouse III, from 2010 to 2012. During the research period it has been accomplished the main objectives of my research project dedicated to the regulation of the secondary cell wall formation in a tree of economic importance, eucalyptus. It have been characterized two transcription factors, EgMYB1 & 2, comparing their spatiotemporal expression pattern at tissular and cellular level and studying the phenotypic effect of their loss-of-function in transgenic lines. It has been also constructed a eucalyptus xylem yeast-two-hybrid library and discovered some candidate protein partners for each of the two genes, beeing currently validated by alternative methods. Enlarging the objectives of the initial grant proposal, the recently released Eucalyptus grandis genome sequence it has been profited to identify and characterize the expression of several whole gene families. Four scientific papers, one as first author and two as a second author, are ready to be submitte
