    Ed Abernathy, born in 1930, is a 1953 graduate of Oklahoma A&M College (OAMC), now Oklahoma State University. He recalls his youth and discusses long career as a soil scientist for the Soil Conservation Service (SCS) in Oklahoma. He talks about his college days and describes his early days with the SCS. Abernathy talks about completing soil surveys in several counties in Oklahoma as well as his activities since retiring from the SCS. He shares about his part-time work within the poultry industry and about some of his efforts with the Le Flore County Conservation District.The Oklahoma Conservation Heritage Collection is a series of interviews with people involved with conserving and preserving the natural resources of the state. This interview was conducted in partnership and sponsorship with the Oklahoma Conservation Historical Society with funding provided by the Natural Resources Conservation Service.
