The paper highlights the fact that while these devices provide more features and functionality, they also introduce new risks.     User-Centred and Context-Aware Identity Management in Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks

    The emergent notion of ubiquitous computing makes it possible for mobile devices to communicate and provide services via networks connected in an ad-hoc manner. These have resulted in the proliferation of wireless technologies such as Mobile Ad-hoc Networks (MANets), which offer attractive solutions for services that need flexible setup as well as dynamic and low cost wireless connectivity. However, the growing trend outlined above also raises serious concerns over Identity Management (IM) due to a dramatic increase in identity theft. The problem is even greater in service-oriented architectures, where partial identities are sprinkled across many services and users have no control over such identities. This book provides a review of some issues of contextual computing, its implications and usage within pervasive environments. The book will also introduce the concept of Security of Systems-of-Systems (SoS) Composition and its security implications within the domain of ubiquitous computing and Crisis Management in large scale disaster recovery situations and scenarios. To tackle the above problems, the book will emphasise the fact that it is essential to allow users to have full control over their own identities in MANet environments. So far, the development of such identity control remains a significant challenge for the research community. The main focus of this book is on the area of identity management in MANets and emergency situations by using context-awareness and user-centricity together with its security issues and implications. Context-awareness allows us to make use of partial identities as a way of user identity protection and node identification. User-centricity is aimed at putting users in control of their partial identities, policies and rules for privacy protection. These principles help us to propose an innovative, easy-to-use identity management framework for MANets. The framework makes the flow of partial identities explicit; gives users control over such identities based on their respective situations and contexts, and creates a balance between convenience and privacy. The book presents our proposed framework, its development and lab results/evaluations, and outlines possible future work to improve the framework. This book will be of great interest and benefit to undergraduate students undertaking computer science modules on security and ubiquitous computing and postgraduate students studying the security of large scale systems of systems composition, as well as those doing their projects in those areas. The book will also accommodate the needs of early researchers and DPhil/PhD or MPhil students exploring the concept of security in ubiquitous environments, while additionally being of great interest to lecturers teaching related modules and industrial researchers

    COVID‐19 Pandemic Cybersecurity Issues

    This paper studies the cybersecurity issues that have occurred during the coronavirus (COVID‐19) pandemic. During the pandemic, cyber criminals and Advanced Persistent Threat (APT) groups have taken advantage of targeting vulnerable people and systems. This paper emphasizes that there is a correlation between the pandemic and the increase in cyber‐attacks targeting sectors that are vulnerable. In addition, the growth in anxiety and fear due to the pandemic is increasing the success rate of cyber‐attacks. We also highlight that healthcare organizations are one of the main victims of cyber‐attacks during the pandemic. The pandemic has also raised the issue of cybersecurity in relation to the new normal of expecting staff to work from home (WFH), the possibility of state‐sponsored attacks, and increases in phishing and ransomware. We have also provided various practical approaches to reduce the risks of cyber‐attacks while WFH including mitigation of security risks related to healthcare. It is crucial that healthcare organizations improve protecting their important data and assets by implementing a comprehensive approach to cybersecurity

    Passwordless authentication using a combination of cryptography, steganography, and biometrics

    User-generated passwords often pose a security risk in authentication systems. However, providing a comparative substitute poses a challenge, given the common tradeoff between security and user experience. This paper integrates cryptographic methods (both asymmetric and symmetric), steganography, and a combination of physiological and behavioural biometrics to construct a prototype for a passwordless authentication system. We demonstrate the feasibility of scalable passwordless authentication while maintaining a balance between usability and security. We employ threat modeling techniques to pinpoint the security prerequisites for the system, along with choosing appropriate cryptographic protocols. In addition, a comparative analysis is conducted, examining the security impacts of the proposed system in contrast to that of traditional password-based systems. The results from the prototype indicate that authentication is possible within a timeframe similar to passwords (within 2 s), without imposing additional hardware costs on users to enhance security or compromising usability. Given the scalable nature of the system design and the elimination of shared secrets, the financial and efficiency burdens associated with password resets are alleviated. Furthermore, the risk of breaches is mitigated as there is no longer a need to store passwords and/or their hashes. Differing from prior research, our study presents a pragmatic design and prototype that deserves consideration as a viable alternative for both password-based and passwordless authentication systems

    This work is part of the research to study trends and challenges of cyber security to smart devices in smart homes. We have seen the development and demand for seamless interconnectivity of smart devices to provide various functionality and abilities to users. While these devices provide more features and functionality, they also introduce new risks and threats. Subsequently, current cyber security issues related to smart devices are discussed and analyzed. The paper begins with related background and motivation. We identified mobile malware as one of the main issue in the smart devices' security. In the near future, mobile smart device users can expect to see a striking increase in malware and notable advancements in malware-related attacks, particularly on the Android platform as the user base has grown exponentially. We discuss and analyzed mobile malware in details and identified challenges and future trends in this area. Then we propose and discuss an integrated security solution for cyber security in smart devices to tackle the issue
