Respiration and Heart Movement Monitoring Using AM Continuous-Wave Radar

    No full text
AbstractA wireless and contactless device senses chest move-ments and measures the respiration and heart rates. A signal is sent toward the body, which will cause a reflected signal. This signal is recorded via the receiver antenna and the information is extracted from its amplitude and phase.Safwan H. Ibrahim, Abdullah A. Zayat, Ali H. Muqaibel, Tarig Ballal and Tareq Y. The system seems to have a harmonics problem coming from chest movement and multipath reflections. In future, the work will be focused on canceling the harmonics and monitoring multi-targetsFig.2: A comparison between the system results and the ground-truth (Oximeter)———Maximum AccuracyMinimum AccuracyHeart Rate98.6%95.3%Breathing Rate100%97.2Table.1: Maximum and Minimum Accuracy of the system compared to the OximeterFig.3: User Interface of the system (LabVIEW)Fig.1: The system diagram and the mathematical equation

    No full text
Dear Readers, ULUM  Journal of Religious Inquiriesis a new academic refereed journal dedicated to publishing articles, essays, translations, symposium reviews, and book reviews primarily within the fields of Religious and Islamic Studies. ULUM is published twice a year in July and December and adopts the double-blind peer-review process. There are at least two reviewers for the total number of articles in each issue. In addition, all articles are checked by iThenticatesoftware in order to confirm that they are unpublished and avoid plagiarism. ULUM accepts paper submission from researchers with only doctoral degrees in research articles and book reviews. ULUM requires writers to use the Isnad Citation Style. We are delighted to offer you high-quality original research papers in various themes and topics with the current issue. The articles are related to studies that focus on different aspects of social and religious issues. Before leaving you alone with these valuable articles, as the editor of ULUM, I am thankful to all those scholars and the members of the editorial board for their dedication, cooperation, and assistance. Also, I would like to congratulate my colleagues for their success for the 3 rd issue of ULUM with the hope that your contributions would go on. Abdullah Demir Assistant Professor, Ankara Yıldırım Beyazıt UniversityFaculty of Islamic Sciences, Department of Kalam, Ankara, [email protected]

Inhibition of the Germination of Root Parasitic Plants by Zeolitic Imidazolate Framework-8

Crystalline ZIF-8 (C-ZIF-8) and amorphous ZIF-8 (Am-ZIF-8) were prepared and investigated to control the germination of Striga hermonthica, a root parasitic plant, which threatens cereal crops production particularly in sub-Saharan Africa. We have demonstrated that Am-ZIF-8 shows a better performance than C-ZIF-8 in inhibiting Striga seed germination. This efficient performance of Am-ZIF-8 materials can be attributed to the incomplete deprotonation of 2 methylimidazole (2MIM) during amorphization, leading to the presence of unsaturated Zn-N coordination with the uncoordinated -NH groups available to undergo hydrogen bonding with the strigolactone analog GR24 forming a more stable Am-ZIF-8···GR24 hydrogen bonded network. We further established that application of ZIF-8 materials generally has no adverse effects on the growth and quality of rice crops. We thank King Abdullah University of Science and Technology(KAUST) and King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology(KACST) for supporting this wor

Immunological Differences in Women Compared with Men: Overview and Contributing Factors

Citation: Ghazeeri G, Abdullah L, Abbas O. Immunological differences in women compared with men: overview and contributing factors. Am J Reprod Immunol 2011 Gender differences in the innate and adaptive immune systems have long been observed in humans. These immunological differences in immune function manifest as diverse susceptibilities to different types of infections and varied risks of developing autoimmune disorders and maybe even, cancers. Several factors contribute to the development of this immunological dimorphism including sex hormones, genetic makeup, environmental causes, and more recently microchimerism. Although the aim behind this sexual immune dimorphism is still unclear, it is tempting to believe that the higher risk of developing autoimmune diseases in women somehow serves the higher evolutionary goal of reproduction and creating new life. © 2011 John Wiley and Sons A-S

    I Think I Am Philip K. Dick

For years, noted writer Laurence A. Rickels often found himself compared to novelist Philip K. Dickthough in fact Rickels had never read any of the science fiction writers work. When he finally read his first Philip K. Dick novel, while researching for his recent book The Devil Notebooks , it prompted a prolonged immersion in Dicks writing as well as a recognition of Rickelss own long-documented intellectual pursuits. The result of this engagement is I Think I Am: Philip K. Dick , a profound thought experiment that charts the wide relevance of the pulp sci-fi author and paranoid visionary. I Think I Am: Philip K. Dick explores the science fiction authors meditations on psychic reality and psychosis, Christian mysticism, Eastern religion, and modern spiritualism. Covering all of Dicks science fiction, Rickels corrects the lack of scholarly interest in the legendary Californian author and, ultimately, makes a compelling case for the philosophical and psychoanalytic significance of Philip K. Dicks popular and influential science fiction.Intro -- Contents -- Introjection -- Part I -- Endopsychic Allegories -- Schreber Guardian -- Belief System Surveillance -- Part II -- Deeper Problems -- Veil of Tears -- Go West -- Dick Manfred -- Timing -- Glimmung -- Part III -- Spiritualism Analogy -- Imitating the Dead -- Indexical Layer -- Ilse -- Hammers and Things -- Crucifictions -- Over There -- Martyrology -- Can't Live, Can't Live -- Lola -- Umwelt, Mitwelt, and Eigenwelt -- Outer Race -- The German Introject -- Part IV -- Materialism, Idealism, and Cybernetics -- Startling Stories -- A Couple of Years -- Android Empathy -- Homunculus and Robot -- ALL OF YOU ARE DEAD. This data set was collected on 7 Dec. 2014 by Sherif and Abdullah. The receiver layout is the same as that of the passive data test at the same location, which is described as follow: 288 receivers are used and arranged as follow - 12 lines, cross-line offset = 10 m - 24 receiver in each line, inline offset = 5 m - Additional 24 receivers are placed at line # 6, where the receiver interval is decreased to 2.5 m. Data Recording: We start recording at 10:10 am and stop recording at 11:25 am. Each record has total of 20 s, with time interval of 0.004 ms and around 2 s overlap between each two successive files. Source: We used a piece of wood attached to a pick-up truck to create the noise; we drove around the array of receivers in a rectangle-shape route during the recording time
