    Design and performance analysis of a reconfigurable, unified HMAC-hash unit for IPSec authentication

    In this dissertation, we discuss the design of a reconfigurable, unified HMAC-hash unit for IPSec authentication. The proposed unit is reconfigurable at runtime to enable implementing any of six standard algorithms: MD5, SHA-1, RIPEMD-160. HMAC-MD5. HMAC-SHA-1, and HMAC-RIPEMD-160. The designed unit can be used for IPSec or any other security application that uses hash functions, such as digital signature. We applied speedup techniques, such as pipelining and parallelism, to enhance the design of the HMAC-hash unit. We also proposed a key reuse technique to improve the HMAC through-put. We used an emerging system design methodology in designing the HNLAC-hash unit. This methodology uses a high level language, Handel-C, to implement the designed unit and directly map it to FPGA platforms. We used the available constructs of Handel-C to conduct a design space exploration of the HMAC-hash unit. The performance of the designed unit was analyzed and compared to performance reported in previous work. To our knowledge, this work is the first in the literature that integrates six standard hash algorithms in one unified, reconfigurable unit. It is also the first in the literature that implements HMAC-RIPEMD-160 on FPGA. The work reported in this dissertation is the first to integrate HMAC with three hash functions. The achieved throughput is 173.69 Mbps for MD5 and 139.38 Mbps for each of SHA-I and RIPEMD-160. Compared to results reported in previous work, our unit achieves better throughput than those integrating three or more hash functions and a comparable throughput to those integrating two hash functions. We achieved better maximum frequency, which is 44.1 MHz. than all other work. We achieved comparable results to those integrating HMAC with some hash functions. The area utilization of the designed unit is less than 33% of the available logic on the FPGA chip we used. Thus, the designed unit can fit on a single FPGA chip as an SoC

    Frontiers for high-level synthesis of digital circuits

    This thesis presents a novel approach to the synthesis of combinational and sequential digital circuits from recursive behavioral specifications based on the functional programming paradigm. Recursion removal is accomplished by computing the fixpoints of recursion equations. The techniques used for computing the fixpoints are based on domain theory and frontiers algorithms. Two-level combinational logic synthesis is a direct consequence of the application of the frontiers algorithm, which derives a correct sum-of-products expression. Multi-level logic synthesis is based on the iterative approach used for computing the fixpoints. Algorithms for common sub-expression identification and derivation of factored forms are presented. These algorithms rely on the frontiers approach, further strengthening the choice of a semantics-based approach. Sequential circuits are modeled as finite state machines. Sequential circuit synthesis uses the techniques established for combinational logic synthesis to derive the computational elements needed to realize the corresponding finite state machine. A significant advantage of the approach used here is that the structure of recursion in the original specification is immaterial for hardware synthesis, i.e., any recursive function can be synthesized without the use of a stack. Since the techniques used are semantics-based, synthesis from two denotationally equivalent specifications always results in the same two-level hardware

    Nurses' Perceptions of Health Care Learning Organizational Culture and Their Readiness for Change

    Abstract: Healthcare organizations aspire to improve safety and quality in a changing environment, learning organizations' practices can help to reinforce existing skills and knowledge and provide opportunities to find better ways of working. Aim: examine the relationship between nurses' perceptions of health care learning organizational culture and their readiness for change at Kafr El-Dawar General hospital. Study design: A descriptive, correlational research design was used in this study. Setting: This study was carried out in all intensive and critical care units; and inpatient units (medical and surgical) at Kafr El-Dawar General hospital (N=22). with bed capacity (N=278). Subject: All staff nurses, who are working in the previously mentioned settings and who were available at the time of data collection and with at least one year of experience, were included in the study (N=270).Tool Ӏ: Dimensions of Learning Organization Questionnaire (DLOQ). Tool ӀӀ: Attitudes Toward Change Survey (ATCS). Results: The finding of this study revealed that the vast majority of staff nurses had high level of learning organizational culture and high level of readiness for change. Conclusion: The present study shows that there is positive statistical significant relationship between learning organizational culture and readiness for change. Moreover, there are positive high statistical significant relationship between learning organizational culture and all it's dimensions; and between readiness for change and all its dimensions. Recommendations: Investigate how learning organizational culture can be effectively connected in practice to other basic concepts, such as job satisfaction, job performance or organizational commitment.
