Defence mechanisms against free radical-induced damage in sheep, cattle and dog erythrocytes.
1. Erythrocytes from sheep were to be found the least resistant to peroxidative stress induced in vitro as compared to those from cattle and dogs. 2. The differences found among species in alpha-tocopherol content and glutathione peroxidase activity were probably insufficient to explain the lowest resistance. 3. One of the main reasons of the lowest resistance may be found in the membrane composition and characteristics (membrane fluidity)

E-learning e futuri studenti in mobilità internazionale. Riflessioni su aspetti e potenzialità di un corso di lingua italiana
The A1 online Italian course offered by the CLA (University Linguistic Centre) of the University of Perugia, is one of the results achieved during various research projects, which has contributed, on the one hand, to the internationalization of the Institution, on the other, to the enhancement of digital technologies providing future university mobility students with the opportunity to acquire linguistic-cultural knowledge, even before the beginning of their mobility exchange programme in Italy. The experience reported in this article reflects on an evolving work, describing its design phase – course structure, selection and creation of linguistic and didactic materials, tools available in the Moodle open-source learning platform – and its subsequent phases of course activation and verification. Throughout the entire project, we focused on two fundamental aspects: inspiring and maintaining student motivation in addition to constructing an assisted, and above all, interactive self-learning path
Liver antioxidant systems adaptation in carvacrol supplemented farmed seabrass
The present study was performed to evaluate the antioxidant activities of carvacrol in vivo on farmed fish. TBARS, protein Carbonil groups and SOD were assessed in liver of seabass fed with essential oil supplemented diet (0.025% and 0.05% of carvacrol). TBARS and CO were reduced by both the two treatments tested, while SOD activity was unaffected. The results indicate carvacrol as a promising dietary supplement in organic aquaculture in respect of the current European Community framework rules based on animal welfare and environmental preservation
