“Il deviendra nomé”: life and posthumous celebrity of Julián Íñiguez de Medrano, Navarrese knight, author of La silva curiosa
los de ConstantinoplaUntil recently, there was not much we knew about the life of the author of La silva curiosa
(Paris, 1583), Julián Íñiguez de Medrano. However, thanks to the discovery of a judicial process
initiated against him in Navarre around 1548, we now can stablish with greater precision the main
facts concerning his family and his life, until he permanently moved to France, where he remained in
the service of the House of Navarre until his last days. Those facts, however, could cast some doubts
about his authorship of La silva curiosa. In any case, his name became known among antisemitic
authors of all Europe, thanks to one of the most famous of the texts included in his (supposed) work:
the apocryphal correspondence between the Jews of Spain and those of Constantinople.

Manifestaciones de la sensibilidad y cosmovisión barrocas en André Nunes Da Silva” (Limite, 1, Cáceres, en prensa).Rescuing a part of Portuguese Baroque poetry from oblivion is still a work of patient archaeology in many cases.
