This paper describes a system for real-time field support to archaeological excavations, and for interaction with remote researchers, via the Internet. To this aim, a prototype system has already been field tested at the site of Poliochni in Greece. The system is composed of a wireless LAN, including one (two or more in the future) mobile unit (Telxon PTC), and a wired LAN, with at least one PC or Workstation running Windows NT and Lotus Notes Domino for groupware activities. The two LANs are connected by means of an Access Point Aironet 630 (Radio-hub). The system provides a communication link with remote workstations installed in Universities or Museums where researchers who are interested in cooperating in real-time with field operators can work. Archaeologists can use the mobile units to draw finds on the screen using a magnetic pen, to write related textual information and to send these sketches or digital snapshots to the fixed host by using suitable interfaces (serial, parallel, PCMCIA, and so on)

RAMSES (Remote Archeological Mobile Support Enhanced System) is an outdoor application of mobile computing to field archaeology, whose prototype has already been field tested in Summer 1998 at the site of Poliochni in Greece. The requirements for both hardware and software are illustrated; the system is composed by a fixed station, acting as object repository, and a few mobile units which input archaeological evidence by means of electromagnetic pen. The software components on both fixed and mobile systems and their interaction are described as well

The paper describes the main steps of the 30-year history of the Ph.D program inEconomics offered by the Faculty of Economics at Universita Politecnica delle Marche. It outlines the main features and occupational patterns of the Ph.D holders who havebeen awarded their doctoral title in Ancona. Compared to the poor performance oftertiary education in Italy, the Ph.D program in Economics at Universita Politecnicadelle Marche represents a successful experience. Since its foundation, in fact, it hasalways been characterized by a precursory approach and by a remarkable internationalvocation. Specifically, among its most distinguishing features, the following aspects couldbe highlighted: the openness, both national and international - as for both students'selection and professional careers; a well-structured educational proposal; a sound orientationto research; a consistent use of resources { material and financial. As a consequence, doctoral graduates in Economics at Ancona outperform in terms of occupational profilesand satisfaction compared to their national peers. As data source, we adopt informationabout the Ph.D holders who were awarded their title from the Universita Politecnica delleMarche recorded over the 30-year history of the Ph.D program. Comparison with evidenceat the national level and further analysis have been proposed by elaborating data from thefirst survey conducted by Istat on professional outcomes of Ph.D graduates (2009)
