Questionnaire with information about Arnold Dante Amoroso's service in World War I, 1917-1919, signed by Amoroso on 24 October 1922.Questionnaire originally part of a survey of Norwich University alumni conducted by a “Norwich in the World War” committee consisting of Charles N. Barber (chairman), Carl V. Woodbury, K.R.B. Flint, and Gustaf A. Nelson. Data from these questionnaires may have been used in a chapter of "Vermont in the world war, 1917-1919" by Harold P. Sheldon (1928). Transcription by Carina Berg. Transcriptions may be subject to error

Lindane Removal Using Streptomyces Strains and Maize (Zeas mays) Plants

The organochlorine pesticide (OP) lindane was removed from minimal medium (MM) by two Streptomyces native strains, while growing on maize root exudates (REs) as a primary carbon and energy source. REs supported 55 and 35% of lindane removal by Streptomyces sp. strains A5 and M7, respectively; corroborating the hypothesis that co-metabolism may be a plant/microbe interaction important to bioremediation. In addition, residual lindane concentration was more than half of the amount in MM supplemented with glucose compared to MM supplemented with REs, suggesting that exudates could be more appropriate carbon source to support aerobic dehalogenation of the pesticide. Lindane-degrading activity was detected in REs, which could explain 42% of lindane removal in REs-lindane assay, without microorganisms. Because Streptomyces sp. A5 showed maximum biomass and the highest pesticide removal in REs-lindane assay, it was found to be the most promising strain regarding their future application. These results showed that phytostimulation of OP-degrading actinobacteria by maize REs are therefore likely to be a successful strategy for the remediation of lindane-contaminated environments.Fil: Alvarez, Analia. Inhibition of PPARγ by Natural Compounds as a Promising Strategy in Obesity and Diabetes

    Get PDF
A wide group of natural compounds (flavonoids, stilbenes, neolignans and others) has been identified as Peroxisome Proliferator-Activated Receptor (PPAR) agonists, with a large variety of chemical structure and different activity versus the three PPAR subtypes. These receptors are transcription factors controlling metabolic pathways in the organism, involved in lipid and glucose metabolism, cell differentiation and energy homeostasis. Otherwise, very little is known about natural compounds able to inhibit PPARs. A number of studies demonstrate that PPARγ repression has a beneficial effect in reducing body weight and improving insulin sensitivity, suggesting a potential clinical role in obesity and type 2 diabetes. This review analyzes natural compounds able to repress PPAR activity and their potential use in metabolic disorders. © 2019 Ammazzalorso and Amoroso

Acerca del discurso poético amoroso de Eduardo García

    No full text
The article offers a brief tour of the poetic work of Eduardo García’s amorous cut to infer his vision of the world and poetry from his love speech. Beyond the meta-poetic dimension, the love poetry of Eduardo García is marked by a kind of temporal obsession; but not in the manner of the topics Tempus fugit, Colligo virgo roses etc., since it is not the passage of time or the physical degradation that torments our poet, but the simultaneous coexistence of several temporal layers, of various amorous feelings, of sentimental stories that overlap: the real woman and the dreamed, the daily and the inaccessible, the future and the already lost forever, the one that coexists with the self in the space of the house and the one that is invariably found in distant paradises.

The Economic Dynamics in Amoroso's Contribution

This paper aims to highlight the main features of Amoroso's reflections on macroeconomic dynamics to which he dedicated a large part of his scientific activity. He developed an original theory of business cycle and he formulated a dynamic generalisation of the Paretian theory of general economic equilibrium which can be considered the main achievement of dynamic macroeconomics due to its ability to extend the analysis of optimising behaviour to an intertemporal context of resource allocation. The influence of Amoroso was modest despite its undoubted analytical capacity, probably because it was too faithful to a Paretian vision of economic relations and at epistemological level too closely connected to the models of nineteenth century physics which he tried to economic reasoningbusiness cycles, growth, dynamic theory
