Oncologia medica veterinaria e comparata (a cura di Laura Marconato e Dino Amadori)

    No full text

Lewis‐Acid‐Catalyzed Synthesis of Amadori and Heyns Dipeptides

    No full text
Amadori and Heyns reactions are milestone reactions of carbohydrate chemistry. There have been little efforts in transforming these rearrangement reactions to useful catalytic tools. We demonstrate herein, synthesis of Amadori and Heyns dipeptides via Lewis acid-catalysis. The accomplished catalytic Amadori and Heyns synthesis is devoid of protection and deprotection steps either for dipeptides or for reducing sugar. By the developed catalytic method we achieved, tagatose Amadori dipeptides via reaction of D-galactose with dipeptides including L-alanyl glycine, L-alanyl-L-alanine, L-alanyl-L-glutamine, glycyl-L-phenylalanine, L-leucyl glycine, L-pheynylalanylL-valine in excellent yield. In addition, Heyns dipeptides were also achieved by employing D-fructose and dipeptides consisting of L-alanyl glycine, L-alanyl-L-alanine, L-alanyl-L-glutamine, glycyl-L-phenylalanine, L-leucyl glycine. The realized Lewis acid mediated catalytic method is practical, quantitative, and avoids chromatographic separation techniques

Use of a macrophage cell line for rapid detection of Mycobacterium bovis in diagnostic samples

Mycobacterium bovis isolation on bacteriological media from suspected cases of bovine tuberculosis (TB) demands laborious and time-consuming procedures. Even polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and radiometric analyses are secondary procedures and not alternatives to bacteriological procedures. Therefore, there is a need to develop new techniques aimed at rapid M. bovis detection in diagnostic samples. The human macrophage cell line THP-1 was thus investigated in experiments of M. bovis propagation and isolation from reference lymph node suspensions. THP-1 cells were shown to support a high-titered propagation within 48h of minute amounts of both M. bovis BCG and fully pathogenic M. bovis strain 503. A semi-nested PCR for TB-complex-specific insertion sequence IS6110 revealed M. bovis infection in THP-1 cells. The same was true of a flow cytometry (FC) assay for expression of M. bovis chaperonin 10 in infected cells. The reduced time for isolation and identification of M. bovis (48-72h) and the consistency of the test results make the use of macrophage cell cultures attractive and cost-effective for veterinary laboratories involved in TB surveillance

Post-fire resprouting of shrubby species in Mediterranean maquis

    No full text
The vegetative resprouting of mediterranean maquis shrubby species was examined eight years after fire. Post-fire regeneration occurs through the resprouting of stumps. All species (Quercus ilex L., Phillyrea latifolia L., Arbutus unedo L., Erica arborea L., Pistacia lentiscus L.) show a rapid growth in the first years after fire, and a decrease already from 4th-5th year. All the species survived the fire and reconstituted a community similar to that unburned in a relatively short time span

ZnCl2-mediated practical protocol for the synthesis of Amadori ketoses.

An efficient and practical protocol for the synthesis of Amadori ketoses N-(1-deoxy-D-fructose-1-yl) amino acid (amino acid = L-valine (1), L-leucine (2), L-isoleucine (3), L-tryptophan (4), L-phenylalanine (5), L-arginine (6) has been accomplished by employing ZnCl2 as a catalyst. The developed method circumvents protection and deprotection steps as well as tedious ion-exchange and column chromatographic techniques. The accomplished Amadori ketoses showed moderate to weak angiotensin I converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity

Technical peculiarities in Giovanni Santi’s paintings on canvas

Giovanni Santi (Colbordolo ca. 1439–Urbino 1494) was one of the most important painters active in Urbino (Marche region, Italy) during the last decades of the fifteenth century, where he was employed at the court of the celebrated Federico da Montefeltro. He is known mainly as the father of Raphael, but he had a remarkable production of paintings, especially on wood but also on canvas and on wall. This paper focuses on technical peculiarities related to Santi’s paintings on canvas, including some practices that have not yet been noted in relation to his panel paintings. In particular, two works painted on herringbone-weave linen canvases were investigated: Tobias and the Archangel Raphael and Saint Roch (both dated ca. 1490–94), in the collection of the Galleria Nazionale delle Marche. The results presented are a part of a large research project based on noninvasive and micro-invasive investigations carried out on twenty-eight works attributed to Giovanni Santi, only partially published in a recent exhibition catalog dedicated to the artist (Palazzo Ducale, Urbino, 2018). Black underdrawing, characterized by a thinly applied network of close hatching for some of the shadows, was observed and, regarding the different hues, a complex use of pigments. The binder detected is siccative oil, with the addition of a large amount of transparent glass particles, which would have been added both to give body to the pigment without using white fillers and to improve drying, a technique that Santi presumably learned from the Flemish painter Justus van Ghent (act. Urbino ca. 1473–1475) and something that he possibly transmitted to his son Raphael as a workshop practice. In fact, Giovanni Santi’s workshop survived his death

Geological outline of the Selinunte Archaeological Park

    No full text
A stratigraphic and geomorphological study of the Selinunte archaeological site has been carried out, and a lithological map based on geological field data integrated with vertical electric soundings obtained. The aim of this work was to provide a basis for archaeological prospecting. Many useful elements were derived, together with references to previous work, for descibing the geological environment of this area, which is considered of great historical and archaeological interest
