Dr. Abbas Gholami ist am 28. August 2013 verstorben. Geboren 1945 und aufgewachsen in Quchan, Persien, führte ihn seine Sehnsucht als 18-Jährigen nach Deutschland, nach Frankfurt. Hier nahm er das Chemiestudium an der Goethe-Universität auf und beendete es als Diplomchemiker. Eine Dissertation auf dem Alkaloidgebiet bei Prof. Teuber folgte und 1979 wurde er promoviert

Am J Reprod Immunol 2011 Gender differences in the innate and adaptive immune systems have long been observed in humans. These immunological differences in immune function manifest as diverse susceptibilities to different types of infections and varied risks of developing autoimmune disorders and maybe even, cancers. Several factors contribute to the development of this immunological dimorphism including sex hormones, genetic makeup, environmental causes, and more recently microchimerism. Although the aim behind this sexual immune dimorphism is still unclear, it is tempting to believe that the higher risk of developing autoimmune diseases in women somehow serves the higher evolutionary goal of reproduction and creating new life. © 2011 John Wiley and Sons A-S

Penicillamine Revisited: Historic Overview and Review of the Clinical Uses and Cutaneous Adverse Effects
Penicillamine is a well-known heavy metal chelator, classically used in the treatment of Wilson disease, rheumatoid arthritis, and cystinuria. From a dermatologic standpoint, penicillamine was found to be useful in the treatment of systemic sclerosis. The successful therapeutic uses of penicillamine have been hindered by its numerous adverse effects, both cutaneous and extra-cutaneous. It is a unique drug since it provokes a diversity of dermatologic manifestations that include (1) acute hypersensitivity reactions, (2) dermopathies characterized by elastic fiber abnormalities including elastosis perforans serpiginosa and pseudo-pseudoxanthoma elasticum, (3) autoimmune disorders such as pemphigus and penicillamine-induced lupus erythematosus-like syndrome, and (4) miscellaneous dermatoses that result from undefined mechanisms. Mucocutaneous Pseudoepitheliomatous Hyperplasia
ABSTRACT: Pseudoepitheliomatous hyperplasia, also called pseudocarcinomatous hyperplasia because of its resemblance to well-differentiated squamous cell carcinoma, is a reactive epithelial proliferation that is characterized by prominent irregular hyperplasia of the epithelium with tongue-like epithelial projections into the dermis. This reactive pattern may involve cutaneous or mucosal surfaces and has been described in association with a wide variety of stimuli including infectious, neoplastic, inflammatory, and traumatic among others. The grenz zone
The grenz zone is a narrow area of the papillary dermis uninvolved by underlying pathology. Historically believed to be a feature unique to granuloma faciale, this feature has also been observed in other cutaneous inflammatory conditions, infectious entities, and neoplastic benign and malignant tumors. This review attempts to enumerate cutaneous entities commonly displaying a grenz zone with an emphasis on histopathological features that help in their differentiation. It also attempts to answer the obvious question of why select entities have this histopathologic feature by ascertaining the defining structure of a grenz zone.
