New additions and further records of non-native Coleoptera in Romania
This report details the discovery of five new non-native Coleoptera species for the Romanian fauna: Cis chinensis Lawrence, 1991 (Ciidae), Latheticus oryzae C.O. Waterhouse, 1880, Palorus subdepressus (Wollaston, 1864), Tribolium destructor Uyttenboogaart, 1933 (Tenebrionidae), and Litargus balteatus LeConte, 1856 (Mycetophagidae). Furthermore, additional occurrences for 19 species whose data were deficient were provided. The identification of unrecorded alien species in a natural setting indicates that they are well established and warrant further monitoring to determine their current distribution at the national level and potential impact on the environment and human activities. This indicates the current extent of our understanding of the diversity of non-native coleopterans in Romania and emphasizes the necessity of further investigation into this group, with a particular focus on those species with the potential to become invasive
Trigonalyoidea (Hymenoptera: Apocrita) – a new superfamily of wasps recorded in Romania
The superfamily Trigonalyoidea, along with the species Pseudogonalos hahnii (Spinola, 1840), is recorded for the first time in Romania. An up-to-date distribution in Europe and a brief description of its biology is presented, together with a picture of the specimen collected in Romania
First record of Cybocephalus nipponicus (Coleoptera, Cybocephalidae) in Romania
Cybocephalus nipponicus Endrödy-Younga 1971 is recorded for the first time in Romania. An up-to-date map of its distribution in Europe is presented, together with pictures of the male collected at 'Dunele Marine de la Agigea' nature reserve
Cynaeus angustus (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), a new alien beetle in Romania
Cynaeus angustus, a North American tenebrionid, is recorded for the first time in Romania. Its distribution in Europe and some data regarding its ecology are presented and discussed
Ophiusa tirhaca (Lepidoptera, Erebidae) in the Romanian fauna
The palaeotropical-subtropical moth Ophiusa tirhaca (Cramer, 1777) (Lepidoptera: Erebidae) has been known in Romania based on a single (undated) specimen collected in Iași (north-eastern Romania), at least 55–60 years ago. As a consequence, this species has either been excluded or regarded as data deficient in various checklists of Romanian Lepidoptera. Here we present the first fully documented record of O. tirhaca from Romania. A single specimen was found in August 2022 on the Black Sea coast, east of Agigea town (Marine Dunes from Agigea nature reserve), caught by a mist net. Since this thermophilous species cannot become established in the climatic conditions of Romania, the specimen is most likely an immigrant, although it might also represent an accidental arrival due to the close proximity of Constanța harbour (virtually bordering the collection site). The occurrence of O. tirhaca in south-eastern Romania underlines the importance of the western Black Sea coast as a corridor for migratory or expansive species, adding to an increasing series of recent Lepidoptera reports such as Grammodes bifasciata (Petagna, 1787), Acontia candefacta (Hübner, 1831), Dysgonia rogenhoferi (Bohatsch, 1880), Thysanoplusia orichalcea (Fabricius, 1775), Utetheisa pulchella (Linnaeus, 1758)
Procas (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) – a new genus for the Romanian entomofauna
Procas picipes steveni Krynicki, 1832 is recorded for the first time in Romania. Data on ecology and its distribution in Europe are discussed
First record of the peacock fly Callopistromyia annulipes (Diptera: Ulidiidae) in Romania
The peacock fly Callopistromyia annulipes (Macquart, 1855) is recorded for the first time in Romania, from several locations. Its current distribution in Europe and some data regarding the ecology of the species are presented
The first record of Aplocnemus jejunus (Coleoptera, Rhadalidae) from Romania
Aplocnemus jejunus Kiesenwetter, 1863 is recorded in Romania for the first time. An up-to-date distribution map and a summary of its currently known biology is presented, together with pictures of a male specimen collected in the ‘Marine dunes from Agigea’
New records of the alien longhorn beetle Neoclytus acuminatus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) in Romania
Neoclytus acuminatus is an alien longhorn beetle native to North America and currently established in Europe where it has a relatively wide distribution. Herein, its distribution in Romania is summarized based on new data accumulated since its first record fifteen years ago. Some aspects on its biology and morphology are discussed
