Testing of nitride-semiconductor-based sensors for monitoring in control systems / by Hang Yu.

    No full text
"Sensors have become integrated into control system, for either mechanical, optical, chemical, or biological applications. The new materials for the sensor designing, diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMS), are attractive candidates which consist of a traditional III-V, II-VI, or group IV semiconductor. Among these DMS materials, manganese Mn-doped GaN (Mn x Ga 1-x N) epitaxial films gain growing interests due to its unique magnetic, optical and chemical properties for control system intelligence sensor design. MnGaN films have been used in spintronic device applications according to its magnetic characterizations, and constructed MnGaN electrodes are of potential material for potentionmetric sensor applications since they have good performance as ion selective electrodes. Moreover, the lattice vibrations and dielectric functions of the Mn x Ga 1-x N films not only provide basic physical properties, but are also unique in their semiconductors electronic functionality: electrical and magnetic properties which allow control of electron spin as well as charge flow, making the materials ideal for spintronic applications

Uniform Convergence of Metrics on Alexandrov Surfaces with Bounded Integral Curvature

    No full text
We prove uniform convergence of metrics gkg_k on a closed surface with bounded integral curvature (measure) in the sense of A.D. Alexandrov, under the assumption that the curvature measures Kgk=μk1μk2\mathbb{K}_{g_k}=\mu^1_k-\mu^2_k, where μk1,μk2\mu^1_k,\mu^2_k are nonnegative Radon measures converging weakly to measures μ1,μ2\mu^1,\mu^2 respectively, and μ1\mu^1 is less than 2π2\pi at each point (no cusps). This is the global version of Yu. G. Reshetnyak's well-known result on uniform convergence of metrics on a domain in C\mathbb{C}, and answers affirmatively the open question on the metric convergence on a closed surface. We also give an analytic proof of the fact that a (singular) metric g=e2ug0g=e^{2u}g_0 with bounded integral curvature on a closed Riemannian surface (Σ,g0)(\Sigma,g_0) can be approximated by smooth metrics in the fixed conformal class [g0][g_0]Comment: 51 page

Intractability of Optimal Multi-Robot Path Planning on Planar Graphs

    No full text
We study the computational complexity of optimally solving multi-robot path planning problems on planar graphs. For four common time- and distance-based objectives, we show that the associated path optimization problems for multiple robots are all NP-complete, even when the underlying graph is planar. Establishing the computational intractability of optimal multi-robot path planning problems on planar graphs has important practical implications. In particular, our result suggests the preferred approach toward solving such problems, when the number of robots is large, is to augment the planar environment to reduce the sharing of paths among robots traveling in opposite directions on those paths. Indeed, such efficiency boosting structures, such as highways and elevated intersections, are ubiquitous in robotics and transportation applications.Peer reviewe
