I trasporti roll on-roll off nei porti Tirreno-Adriatici: connotati strutturali e rapporti di concorrenza interportuale

    No full text

The article analyses the evolution of the fair industry in Italy since the outbreak of the financial crisis in 2008. In particular, the article examines the performance achieved by a sample of Italian exhibitions between 2008 and 2011 – at the apex of the financial crisis – and the strategies and the business model adopted/modified to respond to the crisis. In the years under consideration, the exhibitions analysed ex-perienced a meaningful reduction in their economic performance. Larger exhibi-tions, however, suffered less than smaller exhibitions in terms of profitability. This may be due to the fact that larger exhibitions have successfully pursued an interna-tionalization strategy that has, at least partially, balanced out the negative effects of the financial crisis. Smaller exhibitions may follow suit, or may decide to focus their activity on a small number of relevant events and exhibitions, in order not to disperse the few resources that the crisis has left them to count on

Towards Unified Literature Representations: Applications in Information Systems and Entrepreneurship Research

    No full text
Research activity is becoming increasingly complex due to the nature of research topics and questions. Among the essential academic research activities are literature reviews (LR), as they support the advance of the knowledge frontier. To improve literature reviews and their understanding, it would need to have comprehensive literature representations. In this perspective, the paper aims to advance previous work by illustrating a new way of creating thorough literature representations. The proposed tool is innovative and versatile since authors can adopt it in different types of LRs. Its adoption implies the construction of a three-dimensional scheme for the classification of the literature to be analysed. Then, based on the latter and selecting suitable evaluation variables, the proposed approach produces informative multidimensional representations for literature mapping and bibliometric analysis. For exemplifying this, the paper provides two application cases concerning Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems and entrepreneurship research

    Reviewing literature through multidimensional representations

Reviewing literature is a demanding task that calls for effective tools. After examining literature review (LR) practices, this paper develops an innovative approach in representing literature. In particular, the paper introduces depictions based on a three-dimensional structure that enables the generation of unitary and highly informative literature representations, thereby improving the completeness and reducing the mismatch between field complexity and the traditional figures and tables of LRs. The viability of the designed solution is shown by replicating a published LR on a representative topic of the accounting information systems (AIS), namely a literature review on enterprise resource planning systems in SMEs. Its benefits arise from comparing the literature representation developed here with the original figures. The paper has methodological and practical implications. Indeed, it proposes a structured approach to improve the representation of multifaceted literature, but it can also be suitable for other types of analysis. The efficiency and efficacy benefits that emerged from the evaluation activity make the output of the paper useful both for researchers and academic research users. In the light of developments in AIS research, the article also comments on potential applications in this area by examining some recently published LRs

Mixed Methods in Business, Management and Accounting Research: An Experimental Design in the Entrepreneurship Domain

All research strategies suffer from some weaknesses. Combining qualitative and quantitative approaches might offset some flaws. Recently a growing methodological trend arose from the acknowledgement that mixed methods may increase the value of several research projects. With this background, the paper analyses trends of mixed methods in the business, management and accounting area during the last twenty years. The analysis highlights domains where mixed methods are not frequently used, such as entrepreneurship, and presents ongoing research based on mixed methods on the Italian community enterprises, a set of collective entrepreneurial initiatives working for sustainable regeneration in their territories. These enterprises are elusive since they are neither easily identifiable nor extractable from databases. A fixed and sequential mixed method approach turns out to be effective for investigating these evolving enterprises. The work is relevant for novices to mixed methods research and provides meaningful insights to analyze a type of organisation that is very important in depleted contexts
