Complete and efficient enzymic hydrolysis of pretreated wheat straw

    No full text
A fractionation of wheat straw components in a two-step chemical pretreatment is proposed. Hemicelluloses were hydrolysed by dilute sulphuric acid, allowing a substantial recovery of crystalline xylose. Lignin was removed by means of a mild alkaline/oxidative solubilisation procedure, involving no sulphite or chlorine and its derivatives. The use of diluted reagents and relatively low temperatures, was both cheap and environmentally friendly. The pretreated material was nearly pure cellulose, whose enzymic hydrolysis proceeded fast and with high yields, leading to high glucose syrups of remarkable purity

NotreDAM, a multi-user, web based digital asset management platform

    No full text
In this work we present an overview of NotreDAM, an open source Digital Asset Management platform targeted to the mid-market segment. NotreDAM provides a web-based multi-user application environment for uploading, annotating, cataloguing, sharing, searching and retrieving digital resources such as videos, audios, images and documents. NotreDAM main advantages are: XMP metadata support, user-defined workspaces and catalogs, scalable processing of resources, a scripting engine extendible through plugins and a REST API for integration with third party applications. The demo will showcase the capabilities of the platform through a typical user session

Experimenting Combinations of Content-Based and Collaborative Filtering with a Photo Recommender System

    No full text
With the ongoing information explosion, it is becoming more and more critical to help users in retrieving items of actual interest. This work describes some experiments carried out in the field of photo recommendation, where a collaborative approach is combined in three different ways with a content-based one, in a scenario composed by few users that are very different among them. The content-based approach is an attempt to improve the performances of the collaborative one, by exploiting the textual descriptions that usually come with photos. Preliminary experiments show that improvements in the precision can be achieved for some users, although - in this particular context - the collaborative approach is on the average preferable
