Generalized thermodynamic and transport properties. II. Molecular liquids
In the present paper, we extend the method described in paper I [D. Bertolini and A. Tani, preceding paper, Phys. Rev. E 83, 031201 (2011)] to molecular liquids, which allows us to solve the exact kinetic equation proposed by de Schepper et al. [Phys. Rev. A 38, 271 (1988)] without approximations. In particular, generalized thermodynamic properties (enthalpy, specific heat, and thermal expansion coefficient) and transport properties (longitudinal viscosity, thermal conductivity) have been calculated for three liquids of increasing complexity, namely dimethyl sulfoxide, hydrogen fluoride, and SPC/E water. All results have been obtained by the molecular formalism as well as the atomic one, corrected for intramolecular correlations that are due to the models adopted. As done for simple liquids, the coupling between the viscous stress tensor and the energy flux vector has been calculated exactly. We also show that the Markov assumption for the dynamics related to thermal conductivity can only be adopted with caution

Solvent-Induced Stereochemical Behavior of a Bile Acid-Based Biphenyl Phosphite: A Computational Study
The origin of the stereochemical behavior experimentally found in a bile acid-derived biphenyl phosphite is studied by means of quantum mechanical methods. The molecular mechanisms driving the screw sense of the dihedral angle between the two phenyl rings of the biphenyl phosphite unit are investigated with density functional theory calculations. Energy, geometry, and circular dichroism spectra have been computed and compared between the two resulting diastereoisomers. We evaluated the solvent effect on the torsional energy profile by discussing the results obtained for the isolated molecule with those found with polarizable continuum model (PCM) calculations performed in different solvents. The results we obtain with the PCM model do not reproduce the solvent effect on the stereochemical equilibrium of this phosphite
Interview with Karen Tani, author, State of Dependency: Welfare, Rights, and American Governance, 1935-1972
What new can there be to say about the New Deal? Perhaps more than you think. Join us as Karen Tani talks about her new book, States of Dependency: Welfare, Rights and American Governance, 1935-1972 (Cambridge University Press, 2016), which examines the ways in which the rights talk we typically associate with the 1960s might be traced back to New Deal Administrators who, through programs like the ADC, simultaneously reshaped federal state relations and created new incentives for the professionalization of state bureaucracies
A molecular dynamics study of the TIP4P model of water
Molecular dynamics calculations with a simple of 343 molecules are reported for the TIP4P model of water at the three temperatures −30.25 and 75°C. Structural and dynamical properties of this model are discussed in relation to experiment and other simulation results
MATERNAL PRENATAL ATTACHMENT: A STUDY ON RELATIONAL PROTECTIVE FACTORS
Literature has widely verified that the quality of prenatal attachment significantly influences mother’s and newborn’swell-being (Tani et al., 2017a,b; Walsh et al., 2014; Laxton-Kane & Shade, 2002).The aim of this study was to analyze the protective relational factors of prenatal attachment by exploring the role that the social support mothers perceive during pregnancy and the quality of their relationships with their own parents and partners plays in influencing the maternal prenatal attachment to child.
161 women (Mage = 31.63, SD = 4.88) at 31-32 week of gestation were recruited for the present study.
The Parental Bonding Instrument (PBI, Parker et al., 1979;Bonaiuto et al., 1997) was used to assess the quality of women’s relationships with their mothers and fathers.
The Romance Qualities Scale (RQS; Ponti et al., 2010) was employed to measure the quality of the women’s romantic relationships.
The Maternal Social Support Scale (MSSS, Webster et al., 2000;Dabrassi et al., 2009) was used to assess the maternal perceived social support.
Finally, the Prenatal Attachment Inventory (PAI, Müller, 1993;Della Vedova et al., 2008) was used to measure the mother’s attachment bond to her unborn child.
A linear regression analysis was conducted with prenatal attachment as the dependent variable, and maternal social support and relationships with mother, father and partner as predictors.
In line with previous studies, the perceived social support during pregnancy (Doan & Zimermann, 2008; Tani et al., 2017a) and quality of couple relationship (Barone et al., 2014; Walsh et al., 2014) positively affect prenatal attachment to the unborn child. On the contrary, the quality of mothers’ relationships with their parents was not a significant predictor of their prenatal attachment.
In conclusion, perceiving support from their social network and having a good couple relationship during pregnancy enhance feelings of well-being, fostering a good prenatal attachment bond
