Richard Solberg Interview, October 30, 1991
Richard Solberg talks about teaching at the University of Montana (UM) in the Department of Botany, and he details his personal teaching philosophy. He discusses the rivalry between UM and Montana State University (MSU) students as well as the student protests of the late 1960s. Solberg talks about serving under Presidents Robert Pantzer and Neil Bucklew and mentions his administrative goals. He describes his career accomplishments such as helping to enlarge the Yellow Bay Biological Station and receiving a Ford Foundation grant to establish the Venture Center. Diagram spaces and multiplicative structures
This thesis explores diagrammatic E_n structures as models for E_n spaces.
Paper A: Braided injections and double loop spaces. (Christian Schlichtkrull and Mirjam Solberg.)
We consider a framework for representing double loop spaces (and more generally E_2 spaces) as commutative monoids. There are analogous commutative rectifications of braided monoidal structures and we use this framework to define iterated double deloopings. We also consider commutative rectifications of E_\infty spaces and symmetric monoidal categories and we relate this to the category of symmetric spectra.
Paper B: Weak braided monoidal categories and their homotopy colimits. (Mirjam Solberg.)
We show that the homotopy colimit construction for diagrams of categories with an operad action, recently introduced by Fiedorowicz, Stelzer and Vogt, has the desired homotopy type for diagrams of weak braided monoidal categories. This provides a more flexible way to realize E_2 spaces categorically.
Paper C: Operads and algebras in n-fold monoidal categories. (Mirjam Solberg.)
We develop the concept of n-fold monoidal operads and algebras over n-fold monoidal operads in n-fold monoidal categories. We give examples of n-fold monoidal operads whose algebras generalize the concepts of monoids, commutative monoids and n-fold monoidal structures, to the setting of an n-fold monoidal category.
Paper D: Higher monoidal injections and diagrammatic E_n structures. (Christian Schlichtkrull and Mirjam Solberg.)
We use the framework of n-fold monoidal categories to examine E_n structures in a diagrammatic setting. A major objective is to introduce the category I_n of n-fold monoidal injections as a counterpart to the symmetric monoidal category of finite sets and injective functions. This then leads to an n-fold monoidal version of the classical James construction. We also discuss applications to n-fold commutative strictification of E_n structures.Doktorgradsavhandlin
A higher dimensional Auslander-Iyama-Solberg correspondence
In this paper, we prove a higher dimensional version of
Auslander-Iyama-Solberg correspondence. Iyama and Solberg have shown a
bijection between -minimal Auslander-Gorenstein algebras and -precluster
tilting modules. If is an -minimal Auslander-Gorenstein algebra, then
the pair is a relative -Auslander-Gorenstein pair in the sense
of the authors, where is the minimal faithful projective-injective left
-module.
We establish a higher dimensional Auslander-Iyama-Solberg, where is
replaced by any self-orthogonal module having finite projective and
injective dimension. This new correspondence provides a bijection between
relative Auslander--Gorenstein pairs and a new class of objects that generalise
precluster tilting modules. This way, we obtain a new correspondence coming

Data for Remote Sensing: Biomass Change Estimated by TanDEM-X Interferometry and GEDI in a Tanzanian Forest
Mapping and quantification of forest biomass change are key for forest management and for forests’ contribution to the global carbon budget. We explored the potential of covering this with repeated acquisitions with TanDEM-X. We used an eight-year period in a Tanzanian miombo woodland as a test case, having repeated TanDEM-X elevation data for this period and repeated field inventory data. We also investigated the use of GEDI space–LiDAR footprint AGB estimates as an alternative to field inventory. The map of TanDEM-X elevation change appeared to be an accurate representation of the geography of forest biomass change. The relationship between TanDEM-X phase height and above-ground biomass (AGB) could be represented as a straight line passing through the origin, and this relationship was the same at both the beginning and end of the period. We obtained a similar relationship when we replaced field plot data with the GEDI data. In conclusion, temporal change in miombo woodland biomass is closely related to change in InSAR elevation, and this enabled both an accurate mapping and quantification wall to wall within 5–10% error margins. The combination of TanDEM-X and GEDI may have a near-global potential for estimation of temporal change in forest biomass

OUR SILVER ANNIVERSARY DEDICATION TO
1. E. (ESKY) SOLBERG
Twenty-five years of progress have passed. "Esky" Solberg has devoted fifteen years of diligent work
to the successful advancement of BJC. Serving in the capacity of Director of Student Relations, he has giv-en
endless hours to student and social activities. A warm smile greets a student at his office door, and he
leaves with a feeling of having been understood and assured that there are many brighter days ahead. Ad-vice
and counseling are given in the best interests of the student rather than from the school's or teacher's
viewpoint.
Besides being a counselor, Mr. Solberg teaches Principles of Economics to approximately one-tenth of
the student body. These classes offer a rewarding challenge to each student. His class preparations are of-ten
very involved, but for the student this instructor exceeds the requirements.
Duties at school are by no means the end of "Esky's" activities. He is active in civic affairs, art,
music, and fraternal organizations. He also serves on various national economic committees. He amazes
students by his ability to leave for New York on Wednesday afternoon, speak at a meeting, and be back in
class Friday morning more alert than his students!
We, the Silver Anniversary Class of BJC, dedicate this 1964 Jay-Cee-An to our esteemed "Esky" Sol-berg,
who has done so much to truly make Bismarck Junior College "a college with a future.
