Paderborn Domain Generalization Version
This dataset is generated the KAT data center in Paderborn University with the sampling rate of 64 KHz (Lessmeier et al. 2016). The damages
were generated using both artificial and natural ways. More
specifically, an electric discharge machine (EDM), a drilling,
and an electric engraving were used to manually produce
the artificial faults. While the natural damages were caused
by using accelerated run-to-failure tests. The data collection
process for both types of damages, i.e., artificial and real,
was exposed under working conditions with different operating
parameters such as loading torque, rotational speed and
radial force. In total, the Paderborn datasets was collect under
6 different operating conditions including 3 conditions with
artificial damages (denoted as domains I, J and K) and 3 conditions
with real damages (denoted as domains L, M, and N).
For example, the loading torque varies from 0.1 to 0.7 Nm
and the radial force varies from 400 to 1000 N, while the
rotational speed is fixed at 1500 RPM. Each operating condition
(i.e., domain) contains three classes, namely, healthy
class, inner fault (IF) class, and outer fault (OF) class. To
prepare the data samples for the Paderborn dataset, we adopted
sliding windows with a fixed length of 5,120 and a shifting
size of 4,096 (Ragab et al. 2021). As such, we generated
12,340 for each artificial domain (i.e., I, J, and K) and 13,640
samples for each real domain (i.e., L, Mand N) respectively
CWRU Domain Generalization Version
The Case Western Reserve University
(CWRU) is a widely adopted dataset for rolling bearing elements
(Smith and Randall 2015). Accelerometer sensors
were deployed at both the drive-end and fan-end of the
housing motors. Vibration signals were collected with 12
KHz sampling rate under eight different operating conditions.
Particularly, we have four different operating conditions
with different loading torques collected from the drive end,
denoted as domain A, B, C, and D. Similarly, we have
other four operating conditions collected from the fan-end of
the motor, denoted as domain F, G, H, and I. For each operating
condition, there is one healthy state and three faulty
states, namely, inner fault (IF), outer fault (OF), and bearing
fault (BF). Each faulty state has three levels of severity
with dimensions of 7, 14, 21 mil. In total, we have 10 classes
with 1 healthy class and 9 faulty classes. To prepare the data
for our experiments, we partitioned the sensor readings into
smaller samples using sliding windows with a fixed length
of 4,096 and the shifting step of 290, which is widely used
in previous studies (Zhang et al. 2017; Ragab et al. 2021).
Overall, we can generate 4,000 samples for each domain

Preface: SAFIR - Safe and high quality food production using low quality waters and improved irrigation systems and management
Food security at present is a hot topic and is increasingly receiv¬ing more attention. This is partly due to the fast growing population and partly to the more frequent extreme events that are affect¬ing food production. Drought is becoming more frequent and in many parts of the world resulting in significant negative impacts on food production. Increasing food production to meet the need of the growing population and to mitigate the impact of the drought events requires increasing cultivable lands, irrigation water sup¬plies, and the food produced per drop of applied water. The natural resources for food production are limited and in most cases, water is a limiting factor for food production.
Field and laboratory research has shown that Improvements in agriculture water management can result in producing more food with the existing water supply. Non-conventional water resources could be used for irrigation provided proper manage¬ment is in place to safeguard the environment. Waste water is the most guaranteed water resource on the planet as it will always be available as long as human beings are still living on the face of the earth. The EU supported a worldwide project, SAFIR, to investigate the possible water saving techniques and the quality and safety of food produced when using treated waste water. The project involved 17 research and business part¬ners and 14 sites. Two main crops widely used in the world, namely potato and tomato, were selected. The project involved microbiologists and hygiene specialists, agronomists, wastewater treatment specialists, modellers, irrigation scientists, crop sci¬entists, agro-industrial companies, chemists, soil scientists and socio-economists.
The two main objectives were how to save water without reduc¬ing the crop yield, and how to use treated waste water for irrigation, while investigating the impact on food quality and the safety of the food for human consumption.
To meet the first objective, deficit irrigation which uses less water than full irrigation, where the full crop requirement is met, was considered. This included the use of the partial root drying method, PRD, where half of the vertical root zone is irrigated at any one time and alternated in the subsequent times. Deficit irrigation was also considered with the classical drip, furrow and sprinkler irrigation systems by simply applying reduced ratios of the full crop water requirement. Water saving also included application of water below the surface in case of the subsurface drip irrigation to minimize the losses by evaporation.
Small water treatment stations were installed at the top of the fields for waste water treatment were developed by the industrial partners and the water was checked for quality to ensure health standards were met before irrigation. This was followed by inves¬tigation of the microbial and chemical status of the soil, and of the tomato and potato crop in terms of quality and safety for human consumption. The following papers will discuss the results obtained under the project and will highlight the issues and bottlenecks. The papers will show that there is a possibility to save water through the use of deficit irrigation, especially drip-PRD, if it is properly managed fol¬lowing root establishment. The socio-economic analysis papers will illustrate the financial gains when using such water saving tech¬niques and the role of institutions in adopting those techniques and encouraging the use of treated waste water under controlled man¬agement. The papers will also show the treated waste water could be safely used, for at least 3 years, with no harmful impact on the human health and without negative effect on either fruit quality, soil microorganisms or soil properties, especially the heavy metals content
SALTMED model as a tool for management of water, crops, field, and N-fertilizers
Models can be very useful tools in agriculture water management. They could help in irrigation
scheduling and crop water requirement estimation and to predict yields and soil salinization.

The dataset consists of sensor readings from bearing machines under four different operating conditions. Each of these conditions has three classes: healthy, inner-bearing damage, and outer-bearing damage. The operating conditions refer to different values for rotational speed, load torque, and radial force. In our experiments, each operating condition is treated as a separate domain. Challenges and issues on measuring, modelling and managing the water resources under changing climate and cand use
This chapter highlights some challenges and issues facing those involved in the area of water resources
management. In order to have a proper plan for water management, we need to accurately quantify the size
of the available water resources. In this regard, we face issues related to the scale of the measurements and
their representation. The chapter briefly describes the new technologies in some areas and presents two
examples of suitable management models at field and catchment scales. It also highlights issues related
to the sustainable water use and offers practical solutions to manage water more efficiently at field scale,
where agriculture is the greatest water consumer. In addition, a reference is made to a possible increase
in water supply through the use of non-conventional water resources and different rainfall harvesting
techniques at different scales, up to catchment scale. Using the resources more efficiently has been
highlighted as an important issue as well as the need for water policies to accommodate the new changes
related to climate and land use taking into account the concepts of green economy, water footprint and
water-food-energy-environment security in an integrated water resources management approach
