Basato su un censimento capillare del materiale conservato nella regione e su uno spoglio selettivo del materiale conservato nelle più importanti biblioteche europee ed extra-europee, il catalogo costituisce uno strumento fondamentale per l’indagine sulla miniatura nell’Italia centraleThe catalogue of the exhibition, edited by the author with other colleagues from the university of Chieti, is a repertory of the illuminated manuscripts produced in the Abruzzi in the Middle Ages and Renaissance. Based on a systematic survey of the material still present in the area and on a selective research on the manuscripts kept in the main libraries in Europe and abroad, the catalogue is an essential instrument for further investigations on illumination in central Ital
The article introduces a previously unknown leaf from a thirteenth-century Antiphonary, recently acquired by the Italian State because of its relevance in the historical context of Medieval Italy. In the first part of the article, Ilaria Vercillo, outlines the acquisition process and identifies the text as the incipit of the feast of St. Mary Magdalen. In the second part, Francesca Manzari discusses her attribution of the illuminated initial to the workshop of the Master of the Conradin Bible, placing the leaf in the context of a dispersed Antiphonary by this workshop and reconstructing the original liturgical sequence of the surviving fragments of this richly illuminated multi-volume liturgical book
The secondary decorative repertory is linked with the illuminated production at Valencia, while the major incipit pages, with extraordinary but unusual illuminated borders, are explained identifying their models in the printed playing cards produced by a German engraver; these were used as model books especially in Flanders. The identification of the owner’s portrait and name, Alfonso, together with the “archeological” analysis of the traces of lost leaves, have enabled the author to propose Alfonso Borgia as the patron, dating the book to the middle of the century, before his election as pope Callixtus II
Crescentaleyrodes fumipennis Manzari & Quicke 2006, comb. n.
Crescentaleyrodes fumipennis (Hempel) comb. n. Aleurodes fumipennis Hempel, 1899. Syntypes, Brazil: São Paulo [not examined]. Aleurotrachelus fumipennis (Hempel) Quaintance & Baker, 1914. Material examined: Brazil: Mato Grosso, 25.iii.1968, (O.W. Richards), ex: undetermined grass (2 slides). Comments: as already mentioned in detail, the redescription and illustrations provided by Bondar (1923) as well as the specimens examined, clearly indicate the appropriate inclusion of this species in Crescentaleyrodes. This species is very close to C. paulianae (Cohic) and maybe they are synonym, but this need to check the type material of the latter species. The specimens of C. paulianae studied for this study were from the same locality and host plant of type materials and showed slightly differences from C. fumipennis.Published as part of Manzari, Shahab & Quicke, Donald L. Therefore, here we consider B. vanderwolfi as a junior synonym of T. negotiosus. Additionally, because of the close resemblance of T. negotiosus to the Buckleria species, it is here transferred to the latter genus as a new combination.
Published as part of Alipanah, Helen, Gielis, Cees, Sari, Alireza, Sarafrazi, Alimorad & Manzari, Shahab, 2011, Phylogenetic relationships in the tribe Oxyptilini (Lepidoptera, Pterophoridae, Pterophorinae) based on morphological data of adults, pp. 484-547 in Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society 163 (2) on pages 529-530, DOI: 10.1111/j.1096-3642.2011.00705.x, http://zenodo.org/record/5441448

The essay outlines the context of illuminated book production in Rome in the 14th century. The author analyzes the patronage of Roman institutions and the books meant for use in Rome, underlining how the most frequent procedure seems to have been the ordering of the book from artists working in Avignon or in the Abruzzi. In the latter case, it is possible that the illuminators did actually come to Rome to carry out the illuminated book
