Distributed PC Based Routers: Bottleneck Analysis and Architecture Proposal
Recent research in the different functional areas of modern routers have made proposals that can greatly increase the efficiency of these machines. Most of these proposals can be implemented quickly and often efficiently in software. We wish to use personal computers as forwarders in a network to utilize the advances made by researchers. We therefore examine the ability of a personal computer to act as a router. We analyze the performance of a single general purpose computer and show that I/O is the primary bottleneck. We then study the performance of distributed router composed of multiple general purpose computers. We study the performance of a star topology and through experimental results we show that although its performance is good, it lacks flexibility in its design. We compare it with a multistage architecture. We conclude with a proposal for an architecture that provides us with a forwarder that is both flexible and scalable.© IEE

Lefroyothrips varatharajani Rachana & Manjunath (Figs 6, 16, 24–26) Lefroyothrips varatharajani Rachana & Manjunath, 2020: 592 Based on 16 females and 8 males from Mimusops elengi taken 11.iii. 2020 in India, Bengaluru, this species is here recorded from Western Australia and New Caledonia. This distribution seems remarkable but is not greatly different from that indicated above for L. fasciatus. The specimens studied listed below agree fully with the recent detailed description of this species. It is probably closely related to L. lefroyi but has the metascutum only weakly reticulate (cf Figs 14, 16). Female macroptera. Body and legs yellow, posterior tergites brownish-yellow; antennal segments IV–VI brown or with brown marking (Fig. 6); fore wings pale with two short shaded areas, at veinal fork and subapically. With the character states of the generic diagnosis. Ocellar setae pair III slightly shorter than distance between posterior ocelli (Fig. 24); postocular setae in single row with S2 sometimes slightly displaced posteriorly. Metascutum weakly reticulate (Fig. 16), CPS on posterior third of sclerite and slightly variable in position. Fore wing first vein distally with 1 or 2 setae. Sternite VII setae S2 arise at posterior margin. Male macroptera. Similar to female; tergite VIII with long comb, IX with 3 pairs of stout setae (Fig. 25); sternites III–VII with transverse pore plate close to anterior margin (Fig. 26). Specimens studied. Knowing-in-being a de/colonial-new materialist collective biography: creative-relational emergenc[i]es of inquiring into Indian women's materialities with/in colonial-patriarchal intra-actions
In this thesis I invite you to join me on a journey into knowing differently as I explore the De/Colonial interruptions that emerge in Knowing/Being/Doing a Feminist New Materialist Collective Biography with/in a collective of Indian women. Holding the onto-epistemological assumptions of Baradian (2006) Agential Realism and using Davies and Gannon’s (2012) methodology of Collective Biography, we begin this journey as an emergent collaborative inquiry into Indian women’s bodies and our traumatic entanglements within patriarchy. But what are the ethics and tensions of doing such research and producing such knowledge about Indian women in a Global North academic context? I arrive at exploring these [un]ethical, De/Colonial tensions of the collective process and thinking diffractively with the ‘data’ gathered in our collaborative writing.
Baradian ideas around research as ethico-onto-epistemological Intra-actions within the world’s becoming offers a home for tracing these disruptions and trans-paradigmatic emergences. However, rather than holding exclusionary onto-epistemological/theoretical positionings, I contend that it is embracing intra-disciplinary intra-paradigmatic incoherence, holding contradictory positionings in relationship, and letting ourselves shift and change within the process that allows us to materialise different, ethical worlds through research. Towards ethical readings/writings of the collective ‘data’ that offer more than the traumas of Global South women as written within Eurocentric representations, I think with Tuck and Yang (2014) to surrender meaning-making and embrace Refusal as an analytic practice in this thesis. At the core of this Refusal is Bhattacharya’s (2021) conceptualisation of “De/Colonial” relationality that highlights my Coloniser/Colonised positioning within western academia. Within this context, I argue that the collective and I are instead uniquely placed to offer the shifts, disruptions, and entanglements of the process, that push us towards becoming differently, as a De/Colonial praxis that disrupts the Eurocentric, colonial research paradigms/practices we inevitably get entangled in.
Consequently, in closely tracking the process and exploring emergent theory through the lens of collective ‘data’, I offer the insights I/we arrive at as ethico-onto-epistemic worldings of De/Coloniality, produced in Intra-action with a multiply marginalised Global South collective. Ndege and Onyango's (2021) themes of Decolonising research methodologies become the
central thread here and act as a springboard to unpack and disrupt the methodological, conceptual, and paradigmatic notions of a New Materialist Collective Biography in the context of research with/about Indian women. We arrive from these disruptions to the ‘contributions’ of this thesis; a dynamic world of decentring, rhizomatic departures where we might not know the marginalised other but might learn to know differently in our knowing-being-together with the process of a minoritarian collective, and the diffractive resonances of a De/Colonial praxis that refuses to end within Social Science research and practice, research, and education in the field of Counselling and Psychotherapy
CONSTRUCTION OF CHAOTIC MAPS ON NONCONVEX SPACES — A SOLUTION TO A CSK DECIPHERING PROBLEM
In this paper, we propose a solution to one of the problems raised by the authors [Manjunath & Fournier-Prunaret, 2009a] with regard to a deciphering issue in the chaos shift keying technique. Here, we construct maps on nonconvex spaces using a class of chaotic maps on the (closed) unit square and prove that they exhibit chaos. The constructed maps serve as a practical solution to control the deciphering errors in chaos shift keying. </jats:p
Encoder-Attention-Based Automatic Term Recognition (EA-ATR)
Automated Term Recognition (ATR) is the task of finding terminology from raw text. It involves designing and developing techniques for the mining of possible terms from the text and filtering these identified terms based on their scores calculated using scoring methodologies like frequency of occurrence and then ranking the terms. Current approaches often rely on statistics and regular expressions over part-of-speech tags to identify terms, but this is error-prone. We propose a deep learning technique to improve the process of identifying a possible sequence of terms. We improve the term recognition by using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) based embeddings to identify which sequence of words is a term. This model is trained on Wikipedia titles. We assume all Wikipedia titles to be the positive set, and random n-grams generated from the raw text as a weak negative set. The positive and negative set will be trained using the Embed, Encode, Attend and Predict (EEAP) formulation using BERT as embeddings. The model will then be evaluated against different domain-specific corpora like GENIA - annotated biological terms and Krapivin - scientific papers from the computer science domain
Minimizing Absolute Gaussian Curvature Locally
One of the remaining challenges when reconstructing a surface from a
finite sample is recovering non-smooth surface features like sharp
edges. There is practical evidence showing that a two step approach
could be an aid to this problem, namely, first computing a
polyhedral reconstruction isotopic to the sampled surface, and
secondly minimizing the absolute Gaussian curvature of this
reconstruction globally. The first step ensures topological
correctness and the second step improves the geometric accuracy of
the reconstruction in the presence of sharp features without
changing its topology. Unfortunately it is computationally hard to
minimize the absolute Gaussian curvature globally. Hence we study a
local variant of absolute Gaussian curvature minimization problem
which is still meaningful in the context of surface
fairing. Absolute Gaussian curvature like Gaussian curvature is
concentrated at the vertices of a polyhedral surface embedded into
. Local optimization tries to move a single vertex in
space such that the absolute Gaussian curvature at this vertex is
minimized. We show that in general it is algebraically hard to find
the optimal position of a vertex. By algebraically hard we mean that
in general an optimal solution is not constructible, i.e., there
exist no finite sequence of expressions starting with rational numbers,
where each expression is either the sum, difference,
product, quotient or 'th root of preceding expressions and the
last expressions give the coordinates of an optimal solution. Hence
the only option left is to approximate the optimal position. We
provide an approximation scheme for the minimum possible value of
the absolute Gaussian curvature at a vertex
A conceptual framework for the assessment of integrated energy storage resources
Concerns regarding climate change impacts, energy security and sustainability are key drivers of the growing deployment of renewable energy resources. The variability, uncertainty and intermittency associated with the integration of these resources make the operation of the conventional power grid particularly challenging. Energy storage resources (ESRs) are one of the most promising solutions to address these challenges. The unique and versatile nature of storage finds its use in applications over a broad time spectrum. Furthermore, fast acting storage helps smoothen out the variable renewable output, minimize spillage of clean energy and manage the steep ramps associated with renewable energy integration. Storage also finds its use across all three domains of the electrical network, i.e., generation, transmission and distribution.
Cost reductions, technological innovations and regulatory initiatives have invigorated the interest in storage. However, the rapid growth of the storage sector is met by daunting challenges to the implementation of storage in the grid, especially since storage is very different from the conventional grid assets. The nature of storage is unique and its implementation has to be treated as such to fully harness the value it brings to the system it is integrated into. To this end, we outline a framework in this thesis for the integration of energy storage resources into the grid. The framework provides a systematic construct to study the various aspects of ESR integration in a system. The framework is comprehensive as it reflects the physical, information, environmental and financial aspects of storage operations. The thrust of the framework is its flexibility to accommodate the wide range of applications that storage provides on different time-scales. Furthermore, the framework explicitly captures the nature of deployment of storage for a particular application and shows the necessary interactions between ESR and the various players that interact with the ESR.
Case studies to illustrate the implementation of the information, environmental and financial layers of the framework are also presented in the thesis. Localization of Synthetic Manipulations in Western Blot Images
Recent breakthroughs in deep learning and generative systems have significantly fostered the creation of synthetic media, as well as the local alteration of real content via the insertion of highly realistic synthetic manipulations. Local image manipulation, in particular, poses serious challenges to the integrity of digital content and societal trust. This problem is not only confined to multimedia data, but also extends to biological images included in scientific publications, like images depicting Western blots. In this work, we address the task of localizing synthetic manipulations in Western blot images. To discriminate between pristine and synthetic pixels of an analyzed image, we propose a synthetic detector that operates on small patches extracted from the image. We aggregate patch contributions to estimate a tampering heatmap, highlighting synthetic pixels out of pristine ones. Our methodology proves effective when tested over two manipulated Western blot image datasets, one altered automatically and the other manually by exploiting advanced AI-based image manipulation tools that are unknown at our training stage. We also explore the robustness of our method over an external dataset of other scientific images depicting different semantics, manipulated through unseen generation techniques.
