Moses Maimonides’ Guide of the Perplexed (Arabic: Dalālat al-ḥāʾirīn; Hebrew: Moreh nevukhim) has certainly been the most influential Jewish philosophical and theological work—from the time of its composition until today. The Guide, conceived in a Jewish‑Arabic milieu, deeply rooted in Arabic Aristotelianism, was influenced, among others, by thinkers such as Al‑Fārābī and Ibn Sina; moreover, it virtually inspired the entire medieval Jewish philosophy and was important for medieval Christian t..

Reading in Two Voices of an Educational Experience of Interreligious Jewish-Christian Dialogue

    No full text
This article explores an interreligious educational initiative jointly developed by the Union of Italian Jewish Communities (UCEI) and the Italian Episcopal Conference (CEI), the “Sixteen Sheets on Judaism,” created to support Catholic religious education in Italian schools. Using a dialogical-hermeneutic methodology within a constructivist qualitative framework, the study applies Hermeneutic Content Analysis to thematically code and interpret the corpus. The analysis shows how the sheets seek to dismantle long-standing stereotypes and theological distortions about Judaism—often still present in educational settings—and to prevent forms of antisemitism by fostering accurate knowledge and mutual respect. Key themes include the Hebrew Scriptures, the Written and Oral Torah, and the Jewish identity of Jesus and Paul. The materials promote mutual recognition and religious literacy through dialogical engagement and the affirmation of Judaism as a living and autonomous tradition. By enabling Jewish self-representation and encouraging theological reciprocity, the sheets exemplify a model of transformative non-formal education. The article positions this case within broader debates on interreligious pedagogy and presents it as a valuable tool for inclusive curriculum design and intercultural citizenshi

La scuola abbandonata: il contrasto alla dispersione scolastica attraverso l’orientamento formativo: riflessioni su una ricerca e strategie di intervento

    No full text
The book investigates the phenomenon of early school leaving - a serious wound to the right to education - as a central issue in the educational policies of the new millennium. It stems from a series of research and reflections conducted by the authors using the tools of participatory action-research on the themes of quality educational relationships, educational poverty, the educating community, school inclusion and the fight against educational segregation with attention to students with a migrant background and the gender dimension. Educational guidance, articulated according to transversal, vertical and multilevel dimensions is the strategy indicated for the promotion of well-being and scholastic success

Ultraviolet and Gravitational Wave Signatures of Magnetar Formation

    No full text
We investigate the impact of gravitational wave (GW) emission by a newly born magnetar onto its electromagnetic (EM) counterparts in the Ultraviolet Transient Astronomy Satellite (ULTRASAT) band. In particular, we carry out a numerical calculation of magnetar-powered shock breakouts (SBOs) and supernova (SN) light curves. We find that an early SBO peak in the bolometric light curves provides a likely signature of a magnetar central engine, which can help constrain the magnetar’s spin period and magnetic dipole. Moreover, our results show that GW emission by the magnetar has only a minor effect on the SBO light curve. Such SBOs can be detected by ULTRASAT at a rate ∼1-2 yr−1, provided that the magnetar wind is not efficiently thermalized during the early phases of the evolution. We additionally find that the subsequent SN light curves can be more luminous than SBOs in the ULTRASAT band and can thus be detected at a higher rate. Finally, we find a possible late-time signature of GW emission in the SN light curves, which may provide an additional tool for the detection of GW signals. Our results demonstrate that future ULTRASAT observations will provide crucial insights into the magnetar formation process and unique information for direct searches of long-transient signals with current and future generation GW detectors. In particular, we estimate a rate of multimessenger (UV+GW) detections of newly formed magnetars ≳1 every 2 yr with ULTRASAT and the Einstein Telescope

Jewish Preaching and Italian Catholic Baroque Space: A Reading of Isaac Cantarini’s Sermons

    No full text
The article explores the sermons of Isaac Cantarini, a Jewish physician and preacher who lived and worked in Padua in the second half of seventeenth century. The author places Cantarini's preaching against the backdrop of Catholic baroque preaching, paying also due attention to the differences between Christians and Jews in using 'sacred' space

Literal and Non-Literal Translation in Maimonides' Dux neutrorum

    No full text
The question of the Dux neutrorum’s origin has been lengthily debated. To disclose part its “mystery” it would be useful to understand the cultural project behind such an enterprise: Why was this text translated and who was the public addressed? A closer examination of the translation technique can reveal important information concerning the historical and methodological circumstances of the Dux neutrorum’s composition: is it to be considered as a literal translation or as a paraphrase? Are some original passages omitted, and if yes, which ones? The answer to these questions could reveal the aim that moved the translator, by indicating his interest with regard to some sections and disinterest with regard to omitted passages. Secondly, it provides information that can be compared to similar methods applied within the context of the thirteenth-century translation movement

Control of an Energy Storage System for Electric Vehicle Fast Charging: Impact of Configuration Choices and Demand Uncertainty

    No full text
This paper presents a model predictive control approach for the control of a grid-connected service area equipped with an electric energy storage system, and with charging stations, delivering the fast charging service to plug-in electric vehicles. We consider two different possible configurations for this microgrid, implying different connection schemes among the storage, the charging stations, and the grid. The objective is to control the storage in order to lower and flatten the power profile at the point of connection of the service area with the grid, thus reducing the connection fees of the service area, and also the impact of charging on the grid. Simulation results are presented, to highlight the different performance of the two connection setups, with a focus on the uncertainty in the knowledge of the future charging demand
