A low cost microcogeneration system for domestic and industrial applications
The paper deals with design and manufacturing aspects of a small cogeneration unit suitable for domestic and low power industrial applications. It is conceived to meet high global and electric efficiency, high power factor, low pollution emissions, low maintenance and easy use, low industrial cost. These requirements led to select a modern low-cost small utility engine as prime mover base for the development of the cogeneration plant, and to provide it with an electronic fuel feeding apparatus. A three-phase induction machine has been used in the electric generator unit in order to reduce installation and maintenance costs and to improve reliability; if gridisolated operations are required the electrical machine has to be equipped with a suitable electronic control unit. The performances of the generation unit are analysed by means of a model and the numerical results are compared with the experimental ones obtained by an investigation on a laboratory cogenerator prototype
A control strategy of induction machine to be used as generator in cogeneration plants either grid connected or in stand alone operations
The energy management is becoming more and more important in recent years, especially with the spreading of distributed power generation plants. The possibility of the generation system to work in stand alone mode represents a chief characteristic that makes one system preferable with respect to others. The induction machine, that seems to be the optimal solution for the generation grid connected, presents some problems when working stand alone. In this paper the induction generator in stand alone operations is analyzed. By means of analytical model the conditions necessary to realize an autonomous network are discussed. The influence of the saturation of magnetic circuits and the power limit of the generation system have been evidenced. Results of numerical simulations are reported
