Although the analysis successfully pinpoints the factors, individual factors are usually described briefly and very generally. For this reason, SWOT analysis possesses deficiencies in the measurement and evaluation steps. Although the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) technique removes these deficiencies, it does not allow for measurement of the possible dependencies among the factors. The AHP method assumes that the factors presented in the hierarchical structure are independent; however, this assumption may be inappropriate in light of certain internal and external environmental effects. Therefore, it is necessary to employ a form of SWOT analysis that measures and takes into account the possible dependency among the factors. This paper demonstrates a process for quantitative SWOT analysis that can be performed even when there is dependence among strategic factors. The proposed algorithm uses the analytic network process (ANP), which allows measurement of the dependency among the strategic factors, as well as AHP, which is based on the independence between the factors. There may be relations and dependencies among the safety factors. Therefore, work system safety should be analyzed in a holistic manner. In this study, the faulty behavior risk (FBR) which is significant in work system safety is tried to be determined through analytical network process (ANP) which is an extension of analytical hierarchy process and allows analysis of complex systems. Besides, there are many difficulties and limitations in measuring the faulty behavior factors. For this reason, the weights of factors and sub-factors necessary to calculate the FBR are determined by using fuzzy ANP and by this way it was possible to make better decisions in this process. Using the fuzzy analytic network process (ANP) for Balanced Scorecard (BSC): A case study for a manufacturing firm

The method suggests that business performance should be evaluated not only by using financial indicators but also simultaneously considering non-financial indicators. It has been revealed in the review of relevant literature that despite the satisfying levels achieved in conceptual and theoretical dimension of Balanced Scorecard, the met hod has some deficiencies in terms of implementation on a quantitative basis and that there remain some problems to be resolved Subject of this study covered the measurement and evaluation dimension of BSC. In the scope of the study, BSC approach was integrated with fuzzy ANP technique so as to determine the performance level of a business on the basis of its vision and strategies. Developing a fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model for behavior-based safety management

One of the most important components of SM is to maintain the safety of work systems in the workplace. Safety of work systems is a function of many factors which affect the system, and these factors affect the safety of work systems simultaneously. For this reason, measuring work system safety needs a holistic approach. In this study, the work safety issue is studied through the analytic hierarchy process (AHP) approach which allows both multi-criteria and simultaneous evaluation. Another limitation faced in SM is the inability to measure the variables exactly and objectively. Generally, the factors affecting work system safety have non-physical structures. Therefore, the real problem can be represented in a better way by using fuzzy numbers instead of numbers to evaluate these factors. In this study, a fuzzy AHP approach is proposed to determine the level of faulty behavior risk (FBR) in work systems. The proposed method is applied in a real manufacturing company. In the application, factors causing faulty behavior are weighted with triangular fuzzy numbers in pairwise comparisons. These factors are evaluated based on the work system by using these weights and fuzzy linguistic variables. As a result of this evaluation FBR levels of work systems are determined and different studies are planned for work systems according to the FBR levels. Co-author Sezin Dagdeviren is a doctoral student in the Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) at UMass Medical School.Obesity is characterized by a dysregulated immune system, which may causally associate with insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes. Despite widespread use of nonobese diabetic (NOD) mice, NOD with severe combined immunodeficiency (scid) mutation (SCID) mice, and SCID bearing a null mutation in the IL-2 common gamma chain receptor (NSG) mice as animal models of human diseases including type 1 diabetes, the underlying metabolic effects of a genetically altered immune system are poorly understood. For this, we performed a comprehensive metabolic characterization of these mice fed chow or after 6 wk of a high-fat diet. We found that NOD mice had approximately 50% less fat mass and were 2-fold more insulin sensitive, as measured by hyperinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp, than C57BL/6 wild-type mice. SCID mice were also more insulin sensitive with increased muscle glucose metabolism and resistant to diet-induced obesity due to increased energy expenditure ( approximately 10%) and physical activity ( approximately 40%) as measured by metabolic cages. NSG mice were completely protected from diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance with significant increases in glucose metabolism in peripheral organs. Our findings demonstrate an important role of genetic background, lymphocytes, and cytokine signaling in diet-induced obesity and insulin resistance.Interdisciplinary Graduate Progra

Modelling Contiki-Based IoT Systems
In this paper, we investigate how model-driven engineering (MDE) of Internet of Things (IoT) systems and Wireless-Sensor Networks (WSN) can be supported and introduce a domain-specific metamodel for modeling such systems based on the well-known Contiki operating system. The unique lightweight thread structure of Contiki makes it more preferable in the implementation of new IoT systems instead of many other existing platforms. Although some MDE approaches exist for IoT systems and WSNs, currently there is no study which addresses the modelling according to the specifications of Contiki platform. The work presented in this paper aims at filling this gap and covers the development of both a modeling language syntax and a graphical modeling environment for the MDE of IoTs according to event-driven mechanism and protothread architecture of Contiki. Use of the proposed modeling language is demonstrated with including the development of an IoT system for forest fire detection
