Butenko w Bunkrze. Oficjalna inicjacja Małego Instytutu Polskiej Ilustracji
The report deals with an official opening of Mały Instytut Polskiej Ilustracji [The Little Institute of Polish Illustration] invented and established by Anna Bargiel, curator and educator at Bunkier Sztuki Gallery of Contemporary Art, Jakub Woynarowski – who runs Studio of Narrative Drawing at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts, author of independent curator projects, and Mateusz Okoński, artist and author of exhibition designs, including the inaugurating exhibition. This exposition was dedicated to Bohdan Butenko, one of the masters of Polish book illustration, author of comic books, poster and postcard designer, theatre and television scenographer.
The exhibition “A Book Is Made Like A Sweater” was opened on 24th November 2013 and was entirely devoted to the idea of book architecture ascribed as a kind of phenomenon to Butenko. Five video books, a library with almost 200 volumes to be read and looked through in the gallery temporary reading room, a few original designs to a couple of books designed by Butenko introduced quite an original approach to his work. The Gallery proposed also a panel discussion with Butenko which gave a splendid chance for the audience to learn more about the process of creation graphic design.
Since 2011 Bunkier Sztuki has been issuing a series of little artistic books with original texts and illustrations which the author also describes shortly
Knjigarna in kavarna
Magistrska naloga z naslovom Knjigarna in kavarna: sinteza dveh poslovnih modelov predstavlja v teoretičnem delu zgodovino in razvoj združenega modela ter njegove prednosti in slabosti. Namen empiričnega dela magistrske naloge je bil raziskati potrebe in preference posameznikov in založnikov/knjigarnarjev v zvezi z vključitvijo kavarne v knjigarno, in sicer s pomočjo anketnih vprašalnikov. Na podlagi zbranih rezultatov raziskave so predstavljeni optimalni predlogi za odprtje knjigarne in kavarne.Master thesis with the title Bookstore and cofeeshop: synthesis of two diferrent business models, presents history and evolution of the combined business model and its advantages and disadvantages. Through selected examples some of the best and most successful bookstores and coffeshops in the world are presented. Special focus is given to laws and other legal requirements that need to be taken into account when opening a bookstore with coffeshop in Slovenia. Aim of my empirical part of the master thesis was to evaluate the needs and preferences of individuals as well as publishers and booksellers as regards the inclusion of a coffeshop into bookstore. The latter was done through the survey with the individuals and publishers. On the basis of the gathered data, an optimal suggestion for opening a bookstore and coffeshop is presented
Intelligence of serial killers
In theorethical part of the thesis we first discuss intelligence, with the very interest of the meaning of its concept, its origin, the development through different age periods of human life, the deficits that lower or higher IQ represents for man, its interaction with the social environment, as a promoter of weaknesses or the advantages of predetermined genetic traits and further orientations and suggestions of research work. In addition to intelligence, we are dealing with serial killers, who are also classified into different types after a short introduction to history, describing their characteristics, explaining the sociological and psychological theories of their origin and subsequent activity, methods of investigating serial killings, which consists of methods of behavioral and geographical profiling.
In discussion part of the thesis, we explore the link between intelligence and serial killers. In search of answers, we are guided by our hypothesis and main research question. Through the study of domestic and foreign literature, we try to find the answer, if and to what extent the level of intelligence affects the way in which murders are committed by serial killers. Based on our findings, we provide suggestions and guidelines for further research work and suggestions for measures that could help reduce the occurence of serial killers
United States v. Butenko: Executive Authority to Conduct Warrantless Wiretaps for Foreign Security Purposes
In United States v. Butenko, the Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit held that the executive branch is not required to obtain a warrant before conducting wiretapping for foreign security purposes. This note examines the court\u27s opinion and contrasts it to the case of United States v. United States District Court in which the Supreme Court held that warrants must be obtained for domestic security surveillance

On the chromatic number of graphs
Computing the chromatic number of a graph is an NP-hard problem. For random graphs and some other classes of graphs, estimators of the expected chromatic number have been well studied. In this paper, a new 0–1 integer programming formulation for the graph coloring problem is presented. The proposed new formulation is used to develop a method that generates graphs of known chromatic number by using the KKT optimality conditions of a related continuous nonlinear program

Heurisic approaches for no-depot k-traveling salesmen problem with a minmax objective
This thesis deals with the no-depot minmax Multiple Traveling Salesmen Problem
(MTSP), which can be formulated as follows. Given a set of n cities and k salesmen, find k disjoint tours (one for each salesmen) such that each city belongs to exactly one
tour and the length of the longest of k tours is minimized. The no-depot assumption
means that the salesmen do not start from and return to one fixed depot. The no-depot model can be applied in designing patrolling routes, as well as in business
situations, especially where salesmen work from home or the company has no central
office. This model can be also applied to the job scheduling problem with n jobs and
k identical machines.
Despite its potential applicability to a number of important situations, the research literature on the no-depot minmax k-TSP has been limited, with no reports
on computational experiments. The previously published results included the proof
of NP-hardness of the problem of interest, which motivates using heuristics for its
solution. This thesis proposes several construction heuristic algorithms, including
greedy algorithms, cluster first and route second algorithms, and route first and cluster second algorithms. As a local search method for a single tour, 2-opt search and
Lin-Kernighan were used, and for a local search method between multiple tours,
relocation and exchange (edge heuristics) were used. Furthermore, to prevent the
drawback of trapping in the local minima, the simulated annealing method is used. Extensive computational experiments were carried out using TSPLIB instances.
Among construction algorithms, route first and cluster second algorithms including
removing two edges method performed best. In terms of running time, clustering
first and routing second algorithms took shorter time on large-scale instances. The
simulated annealing could produce better solutions than the descent method, but did
not always perform well in terms of average solution. To evaluate the performance
of the proposed heuristic methods, their solutions were compared with the optimal
solutions obtained using a mixed-integer programming formulation of the problem.
For small-scale problems, heuristic solutions were equal to the optimal solution output
by CPLEX
On data clustering: exact and approximate solutions
Cluster Analysis aims at finding subsets (clusters) of a given set of entities,
which are homogeneous and/or well separated.
In the last decades, cluster analysis started playing an important role in a wide
and heterogenous range of applications involving different scientific research communities,
including among others genetics, biology, biochemistry, mathematics,
and computer science.
This paper overviews the main types of clustering and criteria for homogeneity
or separation and the most popular solution techniques
O książce ilustrowanej – rozważania i refleksje Bohdana Butenki
On an Illustrated Book – Bohdan Butenko’s Deliberations and Reflections A book affects the reader through its verbal and visual strata. Bohdan Butenko is one of the artists who always respect the unity of the text and picture. Himself a graduate from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw and a disciple of Marcin Szancer, a co-founder of the “Polish school of illustration”, he illustrated over 200 books mainly for children and teenagers, treating each of them as a separate artistic composition. Research of contemporary illustrators relies on interviews and reviews, which help to confront artists’ work with the opinions of the recipients of their creative ef-forts. Bohdan Butenko readily comments his work both in professional magazines and daily press. An essential element of his work is being in touch with the reader. The artist gives many valuable tips on illustrating books and their composition, emphasising the role of illustrator as a co-creator of a book, who enjoys an equal status with its author. The artist’s reflections are so much more valuable that books with a characteristic “Butenko pinxit” on the cover are always present on the publishing market and receive numerous awards. On an Illustrated Book – Bohdan Butenko’s Deliberations and Reflections A book affects the reader through its verbal and visual strata.
