    La Nerina di Cincinnato Baruzzi

    No full text
This short essai is about the creation of «Nerina», one of the most celebrated statues by the neoclassic sculptor Cincinnato Baruzzi, a pupil of Antonio Canova. The maquette of this sculpture is depicted by the famous Russian portraitist Karl Brjullov in the background of his «Portrait of Cincinnato Baruzzi», as a sort of memory of one of his latest and more promising artworks. The statue, made for count Carlo Bertalazzone D’Arache of Turin, is at present dispersed and only documented by descriptions and drawings. As many of Baruzzi’s works, it was inspired by a poem, this time by his contemporary Francesco Gianni

    Cincinnato Baruzzi perduto (?)

Many works by the 19th century Italian sculptor Cincinnato Baruzzi are presently lost, destroyed or only mentioned by documents. Some of these sculptures are visually documented by drawings, photographs and book illustrations. The most interesting examples are: the models for the two funerary monuments sculpted for the Polish noble family Pac, formerly in Imola; the first version of Love capturing a soul, one of the earliest original creations of Baruzzi, replicated several times for British and German collectors; the Timpanista or Euterpe, a statue originally created for Elisa Fagnani Arese together with the destroyed memory of her two daughters and little granddaughter, formerly in the Arese villa in Sesto Milanese, documented by a drawing; the Sulamite commissioned by the well known Lombard patron Francesco Cavezzali for his villa in Lodi, a photograph of which was taken in its original surround in the forties; and some of Baruzzi’s statues, only described in letters and documents, whose image is preserved through the early photographic campaign commissioned by the sculptor from one of the first daguerreotype photographers, the Swiss Henry Béguin

The tyrosine kinase Abl is a component of macrophage podosomes and is required for podosome formation and function.

Myeloid leukocytes form actin-based plasma membrane protrusions, called podosomes, that are implicated in myeloid cell recruitment into tissues and cell migration within the interstitium. In this study we show that tyrosine kinases of the Abl family are present in podosomes formed by murine and human macrophages. Silencing of Abl expression in bone-marrow-derived macrophages and monocyte-derived macrophages by siRNA or Abl enzymatic inhibition with imatinib resulted in the disassembly of macrophage podosomes and the reduction of their capacity to degrade an extracellular matrix and migrate through matrigel matrices and endothelial cell monolayers. Additionally, macrophages deficient in Src-family kinases, which cross-talk with Abl in regulating macrophage migration, also demonstrated podosome disassembly. These findings suggest that podosome disassembly induced by Abl targeting may inhibit podosome-dependent functions such as leukocyte recruitment into inflammatory sites and osteoclast-dependent bone resorption

    D.X XY

    No full text
La performance ruota intorno ad una struttura movibile che si presta ad esporre i disegni di Baruzzi, che di volta in volta vengono cambiati da i due performer.D.X XY is a dialogue on painting between two subjects X and Y, which is reported in the file number one, while in the second file donated by the artist the dialogue becomes a performance thanks to two actors who recite the text written by the artist himself. The two interlocutors impel a nonsense conversation where the act of painting is the fulcrum generating a series of references to pictorial action and often to the impossibility of the termination of this act. The performance revolves around a movable structure that lends itself to expose the Baruzzi designs that are changed from time to time by the two performers

    Aesop's Fables: a Pop-Up Book

    No full text
Here is the English version, attributed to Aesop, of a French version from the same year that is attributed to La Fontaine and published by Cerise Bleue: Les Fables de La Fontaine animees (Pop-up). As I wrote there, the designs seemed to me somehow familiar when I noticed that the concept belongs to Claire Littlejohn and Manth. The seven fables offered here are TH, L'Ours et les Abeilles, FG, Le Loup déguisé en Agneau, GA, DS, and LM. The best paper constructions might be the first two. The seven are listed on the back cover. This is a hardbound book (hard cover)Language note: FrenchPop-u

MEET. Un percorso espositivo interattivo tra co-design e valorizzazione del territorio/ MEET. An interactive exhibition itinerary between co-design and enhancement of the territory

    No full text
In a context of socio-economic and cultural transformations, the diffusion of digital technologies has played a significant role by providing a horizontal tool that can stimu- late sharing, simplify communication, and support the physical experience of a place. Even museums and exhibition itineraries, combining physical and digital dimensions, become places of hybridisation. This paper presents a research programme that in- vestigates the field of design for Cultural Heritage. MEET (Multifaceted Experiences for Enhancing Territories) is a collaborative project format that involves institutions, profes- sionals, and citizens in the realisation of an interactive exhibition itinerary dedicated to the enhancement of the local Cultural Heritage through co-design processes

Severe dysautonomic onset of Guillain-Barré syndrome with good recovery. A clinical and autonomic follow-up study

    No full text
A 39 year old man with acute panautonomic and mild somatic neuropathy had severe postural hypotension 1 week after onset. Porphyric neuropathy was excluded. The final diagnosis was Guillain-Barré syndrome (GBS). After 2 months he began to recover progressively and after 9 months he presented asymptomatic postural hypotension. We consider the hypothesis of a spectrum of clinico-pathological entities at one end of which lies GBS with autonomic signs and at the other acute pure dysautonomia. The site of the autonomic lesion, might have been in post-ganglionic sympathetic fibers and vagus nerve. © 1990 Masson Italia periodici s.r.l
