Présentation de l'éditeur : PROTA 7 deals with the timbers of Tropical Africa. Because the group is very large, it has been subdivided into 2 volumes. In PROTA 7(1) 511 "primary use" timbers, belonging to a selection of 25 botanical families, were described in 280 review articles (2008). This volume, PROTA 7(2) describes 693 "primary use" timbers in 314 review articles. All articles are illustrated with a geographic distribution map and many with a line drawing of the habit. The accompanying CD-Rom allows for easy searching through the texts and contains in addition numerous photographs (a.o. on wood anatomy

PROTA 7 deals with the timber trees of Tropical Africa. PROTA's database, SPECIESLIST presents 1751 species used as such. 907 among them are primary use timbers, qualifying for treatment in PROTA 7, which is subdivided into 2 volumes. PROTA 7(1) describes 511 species belonging to a selection of 25 botanical families. They are described in 280 review articles, implying that 231 species are briefly mentioned and described in the articles of more important related species; they have no separate article due to lack of informatio

The 8,681 species covered in this bilingual book constitute a checklist of plant resources in tropical Africa. The first part lists the species by scientific name, family and primary use (based on the commodity group to which the species has been assigned). The second part arranges the species according to commodity group, family and secondary uses. This edition replaces PROTA’s Basic list of species, published in 2002.

<p>RT-qPCR analysis of co-IP samples from ProtA and ProtA-Cwc24p using specific primers for the snRNAs. Relative amounts of co-immunoprecipitated RNA were calculated by comparing A-Cwc24p with ProtA. To quantify the results, the ΔΔCt method was used and the y-axis shows the ratio between ProtA-Cwc24 and ProtA. Standard error bars were calculated from the results of triplicates.</p

Case study: Seismic upgrade of a masonry bell tower by GFRP ties

    No full text
In many cases masonry buildings present structural problems related to development of local mechanisms under seismic actions. The solution to this weakness has to be chosen taking into account several aspects if the construction is ancient and is gifted of monumental significance. In this paper the case of the Bell Tower of Santa Maria del Carmine Napoli, Italy is discussed; the construction has been deeply examined by the writers performing experimental inquires in situ and theoretical analysis with three-dimensional models. While the results obtained in the hypothesis of compact behavior of the structure have pointed out a low risk condition under seismic actions, in contrast the study of local out-of-plane mechanisms, dealt with in detail in this paper, have evidenced an unsafe situation. To avoid such mechanisms, connective systems with tie rods made of glass fiber-reinforced polymer laminates have been designed to be inserted where local verifications are not satisfied. Design, application, and monitoring procedures of this innovative intervention are discussed in detail herein
