Fil: Longoni, Ana. Tercer oído: Relatos descentrados de una vanguardia

    No full text

Resistance to medical artificial intelligence is an attribute in a compensatory decision process: response to Pezzo and Beckstead (2020)

    No full text
In Longoni et al. (2019), we examine how algorithm aversion influences utilization of healthcare delivered by human and artificial intelligence providers. Pezzo and Beckstead’s (2020) commentary asks whether resistance to medical AI takes the form of a noncompensatory decision strategy, in which a single attribute determines provider choice, or whether resistance to medical AI is one of several attributes considered in a compensatory decision strategy. We clarify that our paper both claims and finds that, all else equal, resistance to medical AI is one of several attributes (e.g., cost and performance) influencing healthcare utilization decisions. In other words, resistance to medical AI is a consequential input to compensatory decisions regarding healthcare utilization and provider choice decisions, not a noncompensatory decision strategy. People do not always reject healthcare provided by AI, and our article makes no claim that they do

    A compact back-end module for high-rate multielement X-ray spectrometers and γ-ray imagers

A compact single-ADC back-end module for the derandomization, acquisition and memorization of 16 spectra from high-rate multielement radiation detectors has been designed and characterized. The input signals, as provided by external peak stretchers, feed Sample&Hold circuits operated independently, which makes it possible to capture randomly-occurring events even in the worst case of time coincidences in different detection elements. The stored signals are then passed along synchronously to a common 12-bit 10MHz flash ADC, by means of a switch array operated as a multiplexer. This provides derandomization of the arrival times of the events. A maximum count rate of about 500 kcounts/s/channel is featured. An homogeneous processing rate among the channels is guaranteed by driving the switches with an "intelligent" digital circuitry implemented in two programmable-logic units. Sliding-scale correction is used to reduce by two order of magnitudes the ADC native differential nonlinearity, and so to meet the requirements of the spectroscopic applications. The measured pulser-peak noise is 1.5 bins r.m.s. over a full scale of ∼4000 bins

Industrial policy and artisan firms in Italy (1945-1971)

This paper shows that after the Second World War the Italian State carried out an artisanship policy of an extent that was unparalleled in Europe. This policy was based on the provision, on the one hand, of lower tax and employers' contributions and welfare benefits at reduced premiums and, on the other, hand, of 'substitutive factors': soft loans, services and promotional initiatives by state agencies. Such an artisan policy played a twofold role: partly 'defensive', protecting a segment of marginal firms, and partly 'proactive', prompting the modernisation and innovation of more promising firms

Real-Time Acquisition and Preprocessing of Kinetic and Spectroscopic Data in Laser Flash Photolysis

    No full text
An automatic flash photolysis system for the measurement of absorption decays and transient difference spectra is described. The apparatus performs a digital measurement of the light transmitted by the sample and a few on-line preprocessing operations on the measured data, such as the digital averaging of the signal and the computation of the change in absorbance. A boxcar averager, used as a gated integrator, constitutes the sampling head of the apparatus. A microprocessor-based acquisition and control unit performs a digital conversion of the value sampled by the boxcar, provides an on-line preprocessing of the data, and supervises every operation required by the measurement process. This unit is interfaced to a personal computer which allows a friendly interaction with the operator as well as the on-line display of the data. The electronic instrumentation features a time resolution of a few nanoseconds, with a boxcar averager as input head, and of a few hundreds of picoseconds, with a sampling oscilloscope as input hea
