    El incremento en la frecuencia e intensidad de eventos climáticos extremos, como las tormentas eléctricas, ha evidenciado la necesidad de contar con sistemas eficaces de protección contra rayos, debido al riesgo significativo que estos representan para la vida humana, las infraestructuras y los equipos eléctricos y electrónicos, generando posibles pérdidas económicas, interrupciones operativas y daños estructurales. En Colombia, la evaluación del riesgo asociado a rayos y el diseño de sistemas de protección se rigen por normativas nacionales como la NTC 4552-2, basada en estándares internacionales, que establece metodologías detalladas para su cálculo. No obstante, el proceso manual de estimación de riesgos resulta complejo, propenso a errores y requiere un alto nivel de conocimiento técnico, ya que implica el análisis de múltiples variables como la ubicación geográfica, dimensiones estructurales, características del terreno y densidad de rayos en la zona. Por ello, se justifica el desarrollo de una herramienta computacional accesible que automatice estos cálculos conforme a la NTC 4552-2:2023, facilitando así una evaluación precisa, eficiente y práctica para ingenieros, diseñadores y empresas especializadas en protección contra rayos.The increase in the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events, such as thunderstorms, has highlighted the need for effective lightning protection systems, due to the significant risk these events pose to human life, infrastructure, and electrical and electronic equipment, potentially causing economic losses, operational disruptions, and structural damage. In Colombia, the assessment of lightning-related risk and the design of appropriate protection systems are governed by national regulations such as NTC 4552-2, which is based on international standards and provides detailed methodologies for risk estimation. However, manual risk calculation is complex, error-prone, and requires a high level of technical expertise, as it involves analyzing various factors such as geographic location, structural dimensions, terrain characteristics, and lightning density in the area. For this reason, the development of an accessible computational tool is justified to automate these calculations in accordance with NTC 4552-2:2023, offering engineers, designers, and lightning protection companies a precise, efficient, and practical solution for risk assessment

    The nature of the UV-bright spike at the center of the otherwise normal galaxy NGC 4552 is investigated by means of both Hubble Space Telescope (HST) imaging (FOC) and spectroscopy (FOS). This central feature-which underwent a recent dramatic UV flare-provides a potential new tool for revealing the presence of massive black holes in normal galaxies. In particular the sub-arcsec FOS spectra of the nucleus suggest that NGC 4552 does harbor an object with mass M > 4 x 10(8) M. within the central 2 pc
