Prevalence of renal coccidia in wild waterfowl in Saskatchewan

    No full text
Between 1980 and 1982 the kidneys of 627 waterfowl from Saskatchewan, Canada, were examined for oocysts by a modified flotation technique. Eimeria spp. were detected in 136 of 289 ducks (11 of 12 species), 130 of 287 geese (2 species) and 2 of 4 whistling swans (Cygnus columbianus). Bucephala clangula and G. columbianus are new host records..RE: 13 ref.; SC: ZA; CA; VE; PA; 0YSource type: Electronic(1) http://upei-resolver.asin-risa.ca?sid=SP:CABI&id=pmid:&id=&issn=0008-4301&isbn=&volume=61&issue=11&spage=2631&pages=2631-2633&date=1983&title=Canadian%20Journal%20of%20Zoology&atitle=Prevalence%20of%20renal%20coccidia%20in%20wild%20waterfowl%20in%20Saskatchewan.&aulast=Gajadhar&pid=%3Cauthor%3EGajadhar%2c%20A%20A%3bCawthorn%2c%20R%20J%3bWobeser%2c%20G%20A%3bStockdale%2c%20P%20H%20G%3C%2Fauthor%3E%3CAN%3E19840813708%3C%2FAN%3E%3CDT%3EJournal%20article%3C%2FDT%3

Light microscopical observations on sporogony of Sarcocystis rauschorum (Protozoa: Sarcocystidae) in snowy owls (Nyctea scandiaca)

    No full text
Two coccidia-free N. scandiaca were fed bradyzoites of S. rauschorum from varying lemmings (Dicrostonyx richardsoni). At necropsy 7 days later zygotes, oocysts in various stages of sporulation, and fully sporulated oocysts were observed only in the lamina propria of the small intestine. Sporogony of S. rauschorum is similar to that of some other species of Sarcocystis: first nuclear division to 2 polar nuclei in the oocyst, then cytokinesis with a 2nd nuclear division resulting in 2 sporoblasts each with 2 polar nuclei, and finally a 3rd nuclear division and cytoplasmic development producing 2 sporocysts each with 4 sporozoites..RE: 16 ref.; SC: CA; VE; PA; 0YSource type: Electronic(1) http://upei-resolver.asin-risa.ca?sid=SP:CABI&id=pmid:&id=&issn=0008-4301&isbn=&volume=63&issue=6&spage=1455&pages=1455-1458&date=1985&title=Canadian%20Journal%20of%20Zoology&atitle=Light%20microscopical%20observations%20on%20sporogony%20of%20Sarcocystis%20rauschorum%20%28Protozoa%3a%20Sarcocystidae%29%20in%20snowy%20owls%20%28Nyctea%20scandiaca%29.&aulast=Cawthorn&pid=%3Cauthor%3ECawthorn%2c%20R%20J%3bBrooks%2c%20R%20J%3C%2Fauthor%3E%3CAN%3E19850827970%3C%2FAN%3E%3CDT%3EJournal%20article%3C%2FDT%3
