The radio properties of the X-ray cluster Abell 2256
The paper considers the mapping of the complex radio emission from the X-ray cluster Abell 2256. The cluster contains at least four and possibly eight radio galaxies with head-tail morphology and 4 ft radio source with a steep spectrum and a unique morphology; it is suggested that this emission has a relatively deep spectrum, and the 'excess' emission at frequencies below 80 MHz may arise from the previously reported 10 ft diffuse component and from the compact steep-spectrum. It is proposed that the complexity of radio morphology in the cluster is due more to the intracluster environment in Abell 2256 than to the unusual properties of the individual galaxies. Some physical parameters are derived for the Abell 2256 radio sources showing that all the observed radio emission can be confined by the hot gas needed if the observed X-rays are emitted by thermal bremsstrahlung
