    Elementary Recursive Nonstandard Analysis, in short ERNA, is a constructive system of nonstandard analysis with a PRA consistency proof, proposed around 1995 by Patrick Suppes and Richard Sommer. Recently, the author showed the consistency of ERNA with several transfer principles and proved results of nonstandard analysis in the resulting theories (see [12] and [13]). Here, we show that Weak Konig's lemma (WKL) and many of its equivalent formulations over RCA(0) from Reverse Mathematics (see [21] and [22]) can be 'pushed down' into the weak theory ERNA. while preserving the equivalences, but at the price of replacing equality with equality 'up to infinitesimals'. It turns out that ERNA plays the role of RCA(0) and that transfer for universal formulas corresponds to WKL

John Perkins is one of the leading evangelical voices to come out of the American civil rights movement and an internationally known author, speaker, and teacher.     Computational analysis of active enhancers and their functions in breast cancer patients through the study of eRNA transcription

    M.Phil.Enhancers specify cell identity by establishing cell-type specific gene transcription programmes through the recruitment of distinct sets of transcription factors. Aberration of enhancer activity has been linked to various pathogenic conditions including cancers. While enhancers are being widely accepted as non-coding regions in the genome that positively regulate gene expression, accumulating evidences suggest them to be transcription units themselves, producing enhancer RNAs (eRNAs) through uni- or bi-directional transcription. It is dubious whether the RNA transcript or the act of transcription contributes to enhancer activity, but the robustness of eRNA production from active enhancers and the correlation between enhancer transcription and the formation of enhancer-promoter loops suggest eRNA to be a promising signature of active enhancers, on par with, if not outperforming, classic markers such as H3K27ac and a high H3K4me1/H3K4me3 ratio. Aberration of enhancer function by mutations or structural changes in enhancer regions and/or their associated factors have been shown to contribute to tumorigenesis. Recent studies have made use of different enhancer detection methods (e.g. ChIP-Seq, Bisulfite-Seq, GRO-Seq) along with transcriptome profiling to explore the roles of enhancers in cancers. However, the use of multiple techniques is costly, and some of them require a large amount of starting materials and therefore is suitable mostly for cell lines. With growing evidence that enhancers play a major role in tumorigenesis,the field thus calls for a more accessible method to detect aberrant enhancer activities in clinical cancer samples.Making use of breast cancer as an example, a bioinformatics workflow is presented in this thesis to quantify enhancer activity from clinical samples by accurately annotating and quantifying eRNA abundance from total RNA sequencing (RNA-Seq) data. Resulting gene expression change from alteration in enhancer activity could also be detected from the same RNA-Seq data, which greatly reduces sequencing cost and at the same time ensures sample consistency. Significant differential expression between tumor and normal tissue samples was observed for breast cancer-related genes. Some differentially transcribed enhancers were also found to overlap with regions of known variants related to the disease. To evaluate the effect of aberrant enhancer activity on the expression of disease-related genes, enhancer::target regulatory network was constructed using sparse optimisation models. Consistent with previous studies, low order regularisation model was found to outperform L1 regularisation model in this type of analysis.This study potentiates the detection of enhancer malfunction along with the associated deregulation of gene expression from RNA-Seq data of clinical cancer samples, providing a universal computational method for the quantification of eRNA abundance, and also for the prediction of enhancer regulatory networks involved in disease progression.     Contextualizing narrative theory: reading the politics of formal innovation in contemporary women's fiction

    To ignore the strategies and structures through which stories are told, this thesis contends, is to neglect a vital dimension of their politics. Narratology provides productive analytical tools to illuminate the complex and varied mechanics of narrative form, yet it also bears the traces of its structuralist origins. Its value is therefore contingent upon its continuing reformulation as an expansive, pluralist and contextualized critical discipline. Participating in this expansion, this thesis evidences the pertinence and vitality of some narratological models and the limitations of others. It opens up alternative critical possibilities by drawing upon insights within contemporary critical theory, from poststructuralist philosophy to transcultural feminism to sociolinguistics. Above all, my interventions proceed from close readings of innovative fiction by women writers hitherto all but unrepresented in, and therefore potentially subversive of, existing models: Nicole Brossard, Daphne Marlatt, Hiromi Goto, Ali Smith, Jackie Kay, Erna Brodber, Dionne Brand, Aritha van Herk. The first chapter formulates an in-between critical space where feminist and postmodernist theories of narrative intersect. It re-examines metafiction through the lens of auto(bio)graphical practice and feminist poststructuralist theories of self, and introduces the notions of folds and echoes to describe specific structural innovations. Chapter Two examines unconventional uses of second-person address and reconsiders existing narratological approaches in their light, focusing on the `push and pull of narrative' that the `you' form enacts. Chapter Three addresses the insufficient attention paid to multiply narrated novels, theorizing them as `narrative communities' and introducing terms to describe different internal relations between narrators, relations that can often be read as determinedly 'democratic'. The final chapter contests the hegemony of temporal models of narrativity by formulating a 'spatial poetics' that accounts both for how spatial structures can be agents of narrative change and for the complexity of textual constructions of space, which frequently exceed static definitions of 'setting'. Running throughout is a reconception of narrative as located not with the figure of the narrator, but in relations of intersubjectivity. The narratological criticism formulated here works towards a situated ethics of reading responsive to the politics of writing: it is engaged, relational, and ever in process

We also take special interest in applying these results to the case where V is either the universal enveloping algebra U(L) of L or its division ring of quotients D(L). In the latter case, each weight vector of D(L) can be written as a quotient of a weight vector of U(L) by a nonzero eigenvec-tor (semi-invariant) of U(L) [Proposition 173.     Rhythmicity and Broken Narrative as a Means of Portraying Identity Crisis in Erna Brodber’s Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home

    In the present thesis, Jane and Louisa Will Soon Come Home, the novel by the Jamaican writer Erna Brodber, is analyzed in the context of post-colonial identity trauma. Analyzing the complex organizational and narrative structure of the novel, the essay author studies how the novel’s rhythmicity and the broken narrative portray the protagonist’s identity fragmentation. Drawing on the work’s connection to the ring game played in the Caribbean and applying the symbolism of the Caribbean folk rhythms, the essay author discusses the subversive intent of Brodber’s novel and her method of rewriting the past as a way of recovering one's identity.
