Blended learning is becoming more common in higher education, offering both opportunities and challenges, especially in maintaining quality instruction. In Informatics program, where students need to master both technical skills and English proficiency, teacher absenteeism can significantly impact their learning outcomes.  While earlier studies have explored teacher absenteeism and online test anxiety, little is known about the emotional impact of teacher absence in blended English as a Foreign Language (EFL) instruction, especially in technical fields. Therefore, this study investigated whether students’ perceptions of teacher absenteeism predict their anxiety during online tests, considering gender and age as possible influencing factors. A total of 57 second-semester Informatics students from Universitas Indraprasta PGRI participated in this quantitative correlational study. Data collected through questionnaires were analyzed using descriptive statistics and regression analysis in SPSS 27. Results indicated that perceived teacher absenteeism, particularly in emotional domains, significantly predicted online test anxiety. Emotional absenteeism was the strongest predictor of students’ online anxiety, with male and younger students more affected by teacher absenteeism. These findings indicated the importance of emotional support in blended learning and suggest that teacher absenteeism can increase student anxiety, particularly for certain student groups. The study calls for stronger teacher accountability and policies that emotionally support students in blended learning settings

In songs, whether they are from popular or traditional genres, there is often a gender stereotype that reduces women's identities to physical attributes and domestic roles. "Mojang Priangan", as an expression of local culture from the Sundanese region, is a relevant subject of study in understanding how women are represented in songs. This study aims to examine the representation of Sundanese women in the lyrics of "Mojang Priangan" songs through a critical feminist approach. The music, composed by Iyar Wiyarsih, was selected for its high historical and cultural significance in representing the identity of Sundanese women. A descriptive, qualitative method was employed in this study, utilizing Norman Fairclough's critical discourse analysis model, which encompasses text analysis, discursive practices, and social practices. The primary instrument in this study was the researcher herself, who actively interpreted the data contextually and reflectively. Data were collected through literature review and documentation of song lyrics and relevant scientific references. The results of this study show that the lyrics of "Mojang Priangan" songs describe women who have physical and personality advantages as the feminine image of Sundanese culture. In Sundanese society, Sundanese women are always positioned in the role of guardians of values, symbols of family honor, and representatives of morality. Although the lyrics have undergone several changes, the main values are still maintained. The lyrics do not exploit women as sensual visual objects. However, they show their values and roles in maintaining dignity in a social context

Attitude and Graduation of the Main Character in Sukarno: An Autobiography as Told to Cindy Adams and Its Translation Bung Karno: Penjambung Lidah Rakjat Indonesia through Corpus-Based Analysis

Appraisal is a person's way of establishing social relationships. It also describes a person's feelings about other people and things.  Appraisal system is considered as the compatible device to portray emotion and judgment since autobiographies narrate one’s life experience and describe a lot about how the author perceived people and situations in any different circumstance. This study aims to figure out attitude and graduation of the main character in the book Sukarno: An Autobiography as Told to Cindy Adams and its translation Bung Karno: Penjambung Lidah Rakjat Indonesia based on corpus linguistics. This book tells Sukarno as an important figure and also the first president of Indonesia. President Sukarno was very influential in Indonesian history so that Sukarno's attitude can be an interesting topic to analyze. This study analyzes appraisal analysis focusing on attitude related to emotions and feelings. Apart from that, it also analyzes graduation or assessment of someone or something. The data source is a parallel corpus in the form of biographical book in English and its translation in Bahasa Indonesia. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. It also uses AntConc software to see the number of attitudes of the main character in both corpus, ST and TT. Furthermore, Sketchengine software is also used to compare and find out if there are any changes in attitude and graduation from ST to TT. The study results show that most of affects express Indonesians’ feeling and emotions toward Sukarno. The most cases also shows that judgment relates to Indonesians’ opinion about Sukarno. Lastly, appreciation shows how Indonesians appreciated what Sukarno had done for Indonesia. There are more positive attitudes found than negative attitudes. This study also shows that graduation related to intensity of words supports attitude statements. It is hoped that the results of this study can describe the attitude and graduation of the main character and how the changes occur

Development of an Empathy-Based Literacy Module into Islamic Boarding School Education to Reduce Bullying Behavior

Bullying in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) poses a significant challenge as it disrupts interpersonal relationships and hinders character development among students. This study aims to design a literacy module tailored to the needs of pesantren students, using the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) model limited to the Analysis and Design stages. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with teachers and students, complemented by non-participant observations of daily social interactions within the pesantren environment. The proposed module consists of literacy-based activities such as reflective narratives, group discussions, role-playing, and creative assignments, all of which aim to foster empathy and address bullying behaviors. The design process also takes into account the hierarchical culture typical of pesantren, ensuring contextual relevance. However, this study is limited in that it does not include expert validation, module trials, or evaluation of learning outcomes. Future research is recommended to continue the development cycle through the remaining ADDIE phases. The findings contribute an initial educational tool to promote empathy and prevent bullying in pesantren settings

Students' Ability in Writing Descriptive Texts: A Descriptive Quantitative Study in Junior High School Muhammadiyah Mataram

Descriptive writing is a fundamental component of language education, enabling students to express ideas, describe experiences, and develop coherent texts. Despite its importance, many students face challenges in grammatical accuracy, vocabulary development, and text organization. These difficulties hinder their ability to produce well-structured descriptive texts. This study aims to analyze students' ability in writing descriptive texts using a descriptive quantitative approach, with the goal of identifying both strengths and areas for improvement. The study involved 21 students selected through purposive sampling based on criteria aligned with the research objectives. Data were collected through a descriptive writing task titled “Describe your favorite place!” Students’ work was evaluated using an assessment rubric consisting of five aspects: content relevance, text organization, vocabulary, grammar, and mechanics, including spelling and punctuation. The scores were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including the calculation of the mean, median, and frequency distribution. The analysis revealed that most students demonstrated writing abilities categorized as “Good,” while the remainder fell into the “Fair” and “Poor” categories. A notable uniqueness in the students’ writing was their ability to organize ideas clearly and maintain relevance to the topic, particularly in describing personal experiences or locations with emotional significance. Mechanics, such as spelling and punctuation, were also generally well-handled. However, significant weaknesses were identified in grammar use, especially in tense consistency, subject-verb agreement, and sentence structure. These findings suggest a varied distribution of skills, with some students demonstrating strong narrative cohesion but struggling with linguistic accuracy. The results highlight the importance of reinforcing grammar instruction and vocabulary enrichment in descriptive writing instruction. The study implies that future researchers and educators should focus on targeted grammar interventions, differentiated learning strategies, and the integration of grammar within contextual writing tasks

Unveiling Public Sentiment and Ideation Patterns in the #IndonesiaGelap Discourse through Appraisal Theory: A Corpus-Based Analysis

Public ideation and sentiments expressed within specific social media discourses can serve as valuable references for assessing public satisfaction and aspirations. This study aims to explore public ideation and sentiment surrounding the hashtag #IndonesiaGelap on the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. To analyze the sentiment, this study adopts the concept of interpersonal meaning in Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL), which is represented through the use of appraisal to observe attitudes reflected within the discourse. To identify public ideation toward the discourses emerging in the context of #IndonesiaGelap, this study employs the language metafunctions such as ideational meaning, interpersonal meaning, and textual meaning focusing on how the public positions itself regarding government policies that appear through the hashtags attached to the #IndonesiaGelap discourse. The data analyzed in this study consists of a collection of posts using the #IndonesiaGelap hashtag that are gathered from X. Several issues raised under #IndonesiaGelap include socio-political issues, pro and contra toward law drafts, and militarism issues represented by the dual function of the military (TNI), which is perceived as a policy that undermines the spirit of reform. Upon closer examination, the word gelap (dark) in the phrase Indonesia Gelap holds a significant role in describing Indonesia’s current situation. Gelap is interpreted as a condition in which there is no light and everything remains obscure. The word carries a negative connotation as it is associated with bleak or grim circumstances. The hashtag #IndonesiaGelap conveys a negative discourse about Indonesia's present condition; however, on the other hand, it also fosters a sense of solidarity in amplifying democratic voices and expressing public ideation concerning government policies
