Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis
This paper provides an overview of the history of IPF as well as current diagnosis and disease progression. Several common etiologies and treatments for the condition of IPF will be covered in depth. General etiology categories include age, gender, race, smoking habits, GERD (gastroesophageal reflux diseases), viruses, and environmental factors. The current treatment strategies for IPF break into medications, therapy, and standards of care. Grasping all the different factors and management is vital for educating our patients, managing the symptoms, and improving the quality of life of our patients as they take on this challenging disease.

Sedentary Behavior and Light-Intensity Physical Activity During Pregnancy and Cardiovascular Health: A Science Advisory From the American Heart Association
The Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans supports sitting less and moving more. Growing evidence suggests that a waking behavior profile with less sedentary behavior and more light-intensity physical activity is associated with more favorable cardiovascular health. Remarkably, little is known about how these behaviors relate to cardiovascular health during pregnancy. The purpose of this American Heart Association science advisory is to describe the existing evidence on devicemeasured sedentary behavior and light-intensity physical activity in relation to cardiovascular health during pregnancy and to make specific calls to action for future research to improve health outcomes and to promote health equity. Outcomes included adverse pregnancy outcomes associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease and the American Heart Association’s Life’s Essential 8 health factor components (blood pressure, lipids, glucose, and gestational weight gain). Findings from observational studies are mixed, with preliminary evidence demonstrating an association between high sedentary behavior and increased risk of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, shorter gestational age at delivery, low or high birth weight, and elevated maternal blood pressure, lipids, glucose, and gestational weight gain. Findings for light-intensity physical activity are limited by fewer studies and are less compelling. Experimental evidence evaluating the impact of decreasing sedentary behavior or increasing light-intensity physical activity on pregnancy cardiovascular health is weak. Future observational studies with rigorous longitudinal designs and larger, diverse samples are needed to characterize associations and to inform the design of adequately powered randomized controlled trials testing the impact of decreasing sedentary behavior and increasing light-intensity physical activity on cardiovascular health during pregnancy
Linguistic Inclusion and Identity: A Sociolinguistic Perspective on LGBTQ+ Language Use
This article explores how American English can subtly dehumanize and marginalize LGBTQ+ individuals through linguistic practices such as nominalization, objectification, misused indefinite articles, euphemistic slurs, and gendered expressions. Drawing on Safe Zone facilitation and sociolinguistic theory, the paper argues that constructions like “a lesbian” reduce identity to a category, while idioms like “that’s so gay” and gendered humor reinforce heteronormative and misogynistic ideologies. The analysis further examines how terms like “female” are nominalized and weaponized in ways that dehumanize women, revealing deep-seated linguistic asymmetries tied to power hierarchies. Building on original insight and expanding with work by Zola (1993), Cameron (1992), Crenshaw (1989), Levon (2015), and Wardhaugh & Fuller (2021), the paper applies concepts of intersectionality, performativity, and language ideologies to analyze power and exclusion in everyday discourse. It also references the “possible -isms” framework by Whitehead & Stokoe (2020) and applies insights from Sclafani & Norova (2023) on how discourse positions marginalized speakers in public life. Concrete recommendations are offered for educators, institutions, and individuals seeking to promote more inclusive and affirming language practices in education and beyond
Hellenistic Lesbianism: Object Analysis
This project is an art history analysis of a small Hellenistic sculpture, specifically through a queer lens. Historical and contextual evidence, as well as analysis of iconography, are synthesized to consider the possibilities of the sculpture’s subject matter. A possible queer interpretation based on the found evidence is proposed as a challenge to the lack of academic insight into lesbianism in antiquity.
