Exploring post-registered nursing students' perceptions of cognitive, social, and teaching presences in a 60-credit blended learning program using the community of inquiry framework

    No full text
This dataset contains anonymised survey responses from nursing students who undertook adult critical care modules at Kingston University. The purpose of the survey was to explore learners' backgrounds, experiences with online and blended learning, and overall satisfaction with the programme. Questions covered topics such as access to technology, preferred teaching formats, perceptions of the lecturers, and the impact of course activities on their professional development. The findings will help improve the design and delivery of critical care education and ensure it meets students' needs, especially in a blended learning environment

Study for assistive facial expression recognition for children with autism using re-enactment

    No full text
The study involved participants observing images of people's faces, on a mobile or tablet device, and providing a response of the correlating expression by touching the screen to select the relevant option. The experiment was conducted in two stages: - Base Line Expression Recognition Test - consisting of 16x facial images, these images were the same for each participant. It took approximately 3 to 5 minutes to complete the test. - Main Expression Recognition Test – consisting of 32x2 facial images, these were different for each participant. It took approximately 5 to 10 minutes to complete the test. The base line test consisted of 16 images, selected from the 4000 images available, based on their clear indications of expression type. Each image was also correctly categorised by the classifier. During the main expression recognition test, each participant received both the original and enhanced images for 32x images. This research was carried out in accordance with GDPR, and received approval from the Kingston University Research Ethics Committee

    Leadership development South East London

    No full text
Community pharmacy leadership is essential at multiple layers within healthcare systems to facilitate change and drive quality improvement. Following a pilot project in Lambeth, we are investing in community pharmacy leadership by: expanding the leadership roles across all of South East London, providing structured leadership development training, establishing a service activity dashboard, engaging with system and PCN leaders, and facilitating development of a ‘pharmacy federation’ to enable commissioning of services at population level. Evaluating the leadership development programme will help us understand what impact and differences our leads are making in their day to day role and what else we need to change in order to increase quality of care and service provision through our pharmacies

A new methodology to inform maintenance decisions and budget requirements for bridges

    Get PDF
Bridge maintenance decisions can have a significant impact on the whole life cost and carbon footprint of bridges. At present bridge maintenance decisions in the UK are entirely cost driven due to budget constraints within Local Authorities. The UK has set a target to become carbon neutral by 2050 therefore bridge engineers need to consider the effects maintenance decisions will have on the carbon footprint of bridges. This study appraises an example bridge, in the UK, to determine the optimal maintenance strategy and cost, considering whole life costs, traffic delays and CO2 emissions. This was accomplished through a parametric study comparing maintenance costs and traffic delays for different maintenance strategies. Carbon emissions for each maintenance strategy were estimated using a carbon calculator tool widely used in the bridge industry. Carbon emissions were monetised based on UK carbon valuations, which are often applied in policy appraisal, allowing CO2 emissions to be incorporated into the whole life costing analysis. The research revealed that a planned preventive maintenance strategy was the most cost effective and sustainable strategy with 7.7% lower discounted maintenance costs and 7% less CO2 compared to an unplanned reactive strateg
