Challenges Facing the Elderly in Accessing Health Services: A Case Study of Akheri Ward in Arumeru District, Arusha, Tanzania
Globally, the ageing population is growing fast. Older adults face complex health needs and struggle to access appropriate care, especially in low- and middle-income countries. In Tanzania, rural elderly individuals face multiple barriers to healthcare. These include long distances to facilities, financial hardship, and a shortage of geriatric services. This study examined the challenges faced by elderly people in accessing healthcare in Akheri Ward, Arumeru District. The study employed a mixed-methods cross-sectional design involving 78 participants. The sample included elderly residents, community members, healthcare workers, and local leaders. Quantitative data came from structured questionnaires. Qualitative information was gathered through interviews, focus group discussions, and document reviews. Results showed that distance to facilities, poor transport options, and dependence on public health centers limited access. Socioeconomic barriers, including a lack of insurance, high medical costs, and low income, exacerbated the problem. Quality of care was mostly rated average. Long waits, limited explanations from providers, and a lack of geriatric specialists were common concerns. Ageism and weakening family support added further challenges. The study recommends decentralizing services, expanding mobile clinics, training more geriatric staff, improving financial protection, and reducing discrimination. These steps can help ensure that elderly people in rural Tanzania receive fair, respectful, and effective healthcare
Counseling on Clean and Healthy Living Behavior in Improving Public Health Levels
This activity aims to enhance public awareness and participation in implementing Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat or PHBS) through interactive counseling methods, education in elementary schools, and community service initiatives. Counseling is conducted through question-and-answer sessions to ensure participants' understanding, while education in elementary schools teaches proper handwashing practices as a preventive measure. Additionally, community service involves the public in maintaining environmental cleanliness. The evaluation results indicate improved public understanding of PHBS based on pretest and posttest scores. The average score of housewives increased by 11.61%, while elementary school students showed an improvement of 19.71%. This increase demonstrates that interaction-based counseling methods are more effective than one-way lectures in enhancing comprehension and behavioral change. With growing public awareness of PHBS, it is expected that healthy behaviors can be consistently practiced in daily life, contributing to a cleaner and healthier environment. This study recommends an interactive approach and hands-on practice in health education programs to enhance the effectiveness of long-term behavioral change

Empowering Middle School Students with First Aid Knowledge for Everyday Injuries: A Cross-Cultural Community Engagement Program in Krabi, Thailand
Children and adolescents aged 6 to 15 years are a vulnerable age group prone to injuries due to high curiosity and limited awareness or response to hazards. Data indicate that approximately 42.56% of middle school students experience injuries, ranging from minor to severe. The most common types of injuries include falls, sprains, puncture wounds, lacerations, fractures, bruises, foreign body intrusion, and traffic accidents. The most frequent injury sites are the lower limbs (67.9%), followed by the upper limbs (32.7%) and the head (11.9%). This community service program was designed to equip middle school students at Ekkapap International School, Krabi, Thailand, with essential first aid knowledge for everyday injuries. The theme was selected to provide basic health literacy through practical, interactive, and engaging approaches. The methods included wound illustration, hands-on activities such as wound cleaning, dressing with gauze, applying adhesive bandages, and simulation and role-play as first responders in emergencies. The results demonstrated a significant improvement in the knowledge of 40 participating students. The average pre-test score was 61, which markedly increased to 93 in the post-test. Statistical analysis confirmed a highly significant difference between pre- and post-intervention scores. Visual and hands-on methods proved highly effective, even in a cross-cultural context, highlighting that empathy and the willingness to help are universal values
The Effect of Anemia Education on Adolescents’ Intention to Undergo Hemoglobin Testing
Anemia remains a common health problem among adolescents, characterized by low hemoglobin (Hb) levels that affect health, academic performance, productivity, and the overall quality of human resources in the future. This study aimed to determine the effect of anemia education on adolescents’ intention to undergo hemoglobin testing at SMP Negeri 1 Gamping, Yogyakarta. The research employed a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental method using a one-group pre-test and post-test design. A total of 36 respondents participated in the study. The instrument used was a questionnaire. The participants, aged 12–13 years, consisted of an equal proportion of males and females. Before the intervention, most respondents (78%) demonstrated a moderate level of intention to undergo hemoglobin testing. After the anemia education intervention, the proportion of respondents with a high level of intention increased from 11% to 22%, while those with a low level of intention decreased from 11% to 8%. The Paired Sample t-Test yielded a Sig. (2-tailed) value of 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating a significant effect of anemia education on adolescents’ intention to undergo hemoglobin testing. The findings suggest that anemia education is effective in enhancing adolescents’ intention to have their hemoglobin levels checked, making it a valuable preventive educational strategy for the early detection of anemia among adolescents
Pengembangan Tungku Pembakar Sampah Anorganik dan Organik Basah dengan Memanfaatkan Limbah Oli Bekas di SMKN 1 Kepil, Wonosobo
