The Effects of Emodepside on L1 C. elegans
Soil-transmitted helminths (STHs) infect approximately 1.5 billion humans worldwide. These parasites include Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris americanus, and Ancylostoma duodenale which primarily infect inhabitants of tropical and subtropical areas, where access to clean resources such as water and sanitation is insufficient. Infected individuals experience malnutrition, impaired cognitive function, immune dysregulation, and many other health consequences that persist (Hotez, et al., 2004). These effects prevent individuals from thriving and trap them in poverty. The World Health Organization (WHO) has authorized the use of four drugs for mass distribution to combat the infections. However, despite the existence of effective drugs, concerns over drug-resistance development in the parasites have prompted the need to develop new methods to combat infections (Albonico, et al., 2004). The economic strains that come with the existing drugs have also pushed for the discovery of new options. A potential solution to these concerns is Emodepside, a drug commonly used in veterinary medicine to treat intestinal worm infections in dogs and cats (Olliaro, et al., 2011). Studies have shown that it works better in humans than standard treatments like albendazole in curing these infections. Our research aims to observe the effect of varying emodepside concentrations on the motility and health of C. elegans in the L1 stage. Preliminary results showed a correlation between drug dosage and reduced health in C. elegans. We aim to further confirm our findings with more trials as well as a greater variety of concentrations

Assessing the Electrical Efficiency of the Thompson Coil
The Thompson Coil is a well-known system used in undergraduate electromagnetism courses to demonstrate electromagnetic induction. Traditionally, the system employs a “jumping ring” to visualize induced currents. This project seeks to repurpose this phenomenon for practical energy transfer by replacing the jumping ring with a wire coil, allowing the measurement of the power delivered to an electric load. Using Faraday’s Law of Induction, = −Φ / , where Φ represents the magnetic flux, the induced electromotive force (EMF) in the receiving coil is determined. Finally, the system’s power transfer efficiency is evaluated using the formula =/ ×100% where is the power supplied to the Thompson Coil, and is the power received by the electric load. The goal is to investigate whether the Thompson Coil can serve as an effective power transfer system, with potential applications extending beyond consumer products to larger systems including powering electric vehicles. This project bridges the gap between classroom demonstrations and real-world innovation, showcasing how fundamental electromagnetic principles can be harnessed for practical energy solutions
Have you had your vitamins today? Development of an LC-MS/MS method with a 100% aqueous gradient to simultaneously measure B vitamins in plasma from study participants in a “greens” nutritional supplement clinical trial
This study assessed the absorption of key micronutrients from the multi-ingredient supplement using a novel developed LC-MS/MS method capable of analyzing B vitamins in a single run.
The study a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled crossover trial with 16 healthy participants (8 males, 8 females) to measure plasma nutrient appearance over 8 hours after supplement consumption. Serial blood samples were collected pre-consumption and at specified intervals post-ingestion. The novel LC-MS/MS method simultaneously quantified biotin, nicotinamide, pyridoxine, riboflavin, and thiamin in blood samples.
Results:The LC-MS/MS method had a range of 0.1 ng/mL to 1000 ng/mL and it proved to be robust and had good repeatability. An initial mobile phase of 100% water was necessary to provide separation for pyridoxine and thiamine. Good sensitivity was observed for the analytes. Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that micronutrients in the supplement are effectively absorbed into circulation following consumption. The developed LC-MS/MS method provided efficient, simultaneous analysis of B vitamins, confirming that complex powder blends of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and phytonutrients are suitable formats for micronutrient supplementation without compromising nutrient bioavailability
Using Feynman\u27s Technique to Evaluate Non-elementary Integrals Used in Physics
In numerous physical applications, such as those in the fields of optics and thermodynamics, the quantitative description of various phenomena requires evaluating certain definite integrals whose antiderivatives cannot be expressed using elementary functions. As a result, these integrals are typically evaluated numerically using a suitable program. However, it is possible to evaluate some of these types of integrals using a strategy known as Feynman’s Technique, an approach named after Richard Feynman, the American physicist who popularized the method during the mid-20th century. This project aims to highlight the usage of Feynman’s Technique for evaluating some of these integrals while applying the results to measured data from the associated phenomenon. This method of integration is a delightfully useful tool for solving integrals that could otherwise never be solved analytically using a more standard approac
Animal Man: Morrison\u27s Reflection on the Author
Grant Morrison’s Animal Man debuted in DC Comics in 1988. For seven years as its author, Morrison explored themes of animal rights, conservationism, postmodernism, existentialism, and even free will all through their careful deconstruction of the superhero genre. In “Animal Man: Morrison’s Reflection on the author”, Ellie Harwood analyzes major portions of Morrison’s comic to identify their commentary on the relationship between people, animals, and fictional characters, and the moral ramifications of those relationships. Harwood achieves this through identifying the similarities between how Morrison portrays animals in the comic, as well as how they portray their own characters on a meta level, and the fundamental similarities between both parties. This essay primarily focuses on how the exploitation of animals is unequivocally tied to the process behind storytelling itself, and how both play into humanity’s intrinsic, primal desire for violence. By identifying the line Morrison draws between fiction and reality, then blurring it, the text’s moralistic claims become clear

Trauma Severity and Religious Detachment in Women who have Experienced Intimate Partner Violence within a Religious Context
Intimate partner violence is often a traumatic experience that impacts all aspects of a person’s life, including their spiritual well-being. The goal of this research is to study the intersection of psychology and religion. This study assesses the severity of trauma and religious detachment in women who have experienced intimate partner violence within a religious context. The study utilizes the PTSD Checklist (PCL-5) and the Spiritual Harm and Abuse Scale (SHAS) to examine the relationship between PTSD severity and religious detachment in participants. It is hypothesized that women who have experienced intimate partner violence within a religious context will score higher on the overall PCL-5. Second, participants are expected to report higher scores on the negative self-belief items of the PCL-5. Third, participants are expected to report negative interactions with religious figures or communities, as measured by the SHAS. Future research should further examine the intersection of psychological trauma and religious involvement
