Marriages and Divorces, 2015
There are three main sources of marriage and divorce statistics in South Africa; namely, those compiled from population censuses; household sample surveys and administrative data (i.e. those compiled from vital registration systems and administrative records). The data from these sources give different aspects of information on marriages and divorces in the country. Census and survey data are by nature subjective individual information that provides cross-sectional data on individuals’ marital status (never married, married, divorced, widowed, etc). Therefore, marriages and divorces in this context cover different types of marriages and associated divorces that took place at different periods in people’s lives. However, not all types of marriages and divorces are registered
Quarterly Labour Force Survey, 2nd Quarter, 2017
The Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) is a household-based sample survey conducted by Statistics
South Africa (Stats SA). It collects data on the labour market activities of individuals aged 15 years or older
who live in South Africa. Starting in 2005, Stats SA undertook a major revision of the Labour Force Survey (LFS) which was conducted twice per year since 2000. This revision resulted in changes to the survey methodology, the survey questionnaire, the frequency of data collection and data releases, and the survey data capture and processing systems. The redesigned labour market survey is the QLFS which is now the principal vehicle for disseminating labour market information on a quarterly basis
Survey of Activities of Young People, 2015
The Survey of Activities of Young People (SAYP) reports on activities of young people aged 7–17 years. The survey covers involvement of children in market production activities, production for own final consumption, household chores as well as activities that children engaged in at school. Statistics South Africa collects SAYP information as part of the module of the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS) every four years. The Survey of Activities of Young People (2015) is the third of its kind to be conducted at a national level by Statistics South Africa (Stats SA). This report compares figures of 2010 and 2015 and please note that the 2010 figures have been revised due to re-benchmarking
