A Japanese Summary of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake I.6 (2) (148.33~168.14)
Full text linkジェイムズ・ジョイス著『フィネガンズ・ウェイク』の第１部第６章148ページの33行目から168ページの14行目までを訳出した。逐語的に訳した箇所もあるが、内容をくみとりながらその主意を表した箇所もあり、「概要」といった題名にした。第６章のNo.11とNo.12という２つの問答は、４博士の１人と思われるスコットと、ショーンの分身であるジョーンズ教授の間で行われるもので、本文の大半はジョーンズの応答が占めている。ジョーンズの説明の中でショーンとシェムは、ムークス対グライプス、ブラス対ケイシアス、バター対チーズといった具合に、別人物となって対立する。彼らの問答から分かることは、この兄弟がいかに憎しみ、いかに対立しあっているか、彼らの人間性がどのようなものか、彼らと妹のイシーとの関係がどのようなものか、意識の下層でいかに彼らが愛し合っているか、といったことである。I translated into Japanese the latter half of James Joyce’s Finnegans Wake I.6 (148.33~168.14). In some parts I translated it word for word, but in other parts I just gave the gist of the sentences or the paragraphs. So in naming the title I used the word ‘summary’, not ‘translation’. In the last two sections of the chapter I.6, No.11 and No.12 question–answer sections, the questioner is Scott (who seems one of the 4 masters) and the respondent is Professor Jones (Shaun), and the sections are mostly occupied with Jones’ response (though in No.12 section both the question and the answer are each in one line). In Jones’ explanation Shaun and Shem are transformed into some other characters who are mutually opposed, Mookse vs. Gripes, Burrus vs. Caseous, Butter vs. Cheese and so on. In some scenes Issy, their sister, appears in the name of Nuvoletta or Margareen. Reading the Revolution Against the Thermidorians――Memorandum on Éric Hazan's work "A History of the French Revolution"――
Full text link本稿はエリック・アザンの著作『フランス革命史』についての覚書である。アザンのこの書は、大革命時代の議員、革命家、人民、女性たちの発言を、議会の議事録、新聞、冊子から直接引用し、それらをモンタージュしたものである。しかしテルミドール9日のロベスピエールの没落前後の、現在残されている資料は、総裁政府時代に再構成されたものであることが、今日では判明している。アザンは、テルミドール派の改竄を越えて、革命家たちの直の声を聞くようにわれわれを誘う。彼らの演説は、政治的な発言においては稀に見る、詩的な強度を備えているのである。This article is a memorandum on Éric Hazan's work A History of the French Revolution. Hazan's book is a montage of direct quotes from the speeches of deputies, revolutionaries, the people, and women during the revolutionary era, taken from parliamentary records, newspapers, and pamphlets. However, it is now known that the documents concerning Robespierre's downfall around Thermidor 9 were reconstructed during the time of the Directory. Hazan invites us to listen to the direct voices of the revolutionaries, beyond the alterations made by the Thermidorians.
