In the context of South Africa's rapidly changing higher education landscape, where inclusivity and technological advancements are paramount, the role of university libraries is shifting from traditional information repositories to hubs of collaborative learning and student engagement. The paper employed a qualitative review of literature and an analysis of the existing infrastructures in libraries of Historically Disadvantaged Institutions (HDIs) to identify strategies for this transformation. The findings highlighted the pivotal role libraries play in promoting lifelong learning, enhancing digital literacy, and supporting academic success. Key recommendations include the integration of advanced technology, the creation of flexible, student-centred spaces, and the incorporation of inclusive practices to accommodate diverse student populations. This paper contributes to ongoing research by offering a model for reimagining library spaces in line with global trends, providing insights for other educational institutions seeking to foster dynamic, student-focused learning environments

Lie Symmetry Analysis of a Nonlinear Black–Scholes Equation in Illiquid Markets

We have conducted comprehensive Lie symmetry analysis of a nonlinear Black–Scholes equation that arises in illiquid markets. The equation incorporates nonlinearities arising from market constraints, such as transaction costs and liquidity effects. We have identifed the admitted Lie point symmetries, derived the optimal system of one-dimensional subalgebras, and constructed invariant solutions. For the first time, we have determined nonclassical symmetries of this equation, resulting in new exact solutions that are inaccessible throughthe classical symmetries of the equation. These results extend and clarify earlier work on the nonlinear Black–Scholes equation andprovide a broader understanding of the solution space for the equation. The work offers new perspectives on nonlinearities in option pricing under realistic market conditions and also highlights the role of Lie symmetry methods in fnancial modeling

Transformative Teaching and Learning Pedagogies for Sustainable Development in South African Higher Education Institutions

vital:80558The paper aims to investigate transformative learning and teaching pedagogies for sustainable development in South African higher education institutions (HEIs). Transforming learning and teaching pedagogies is fundamental to achieving sustainable development that promotes lifelong learning opportunities in schools, as teachers are essential in influencing how societies will develop in the future because they help students acquire the values, knowledge and abilities needed to live sustainably. Even though it is becoming increasingly clear how important it is to change the pedagogies used in teaching and learning, HEIs frequently fall short of addressing the intricate problems of sustainability. Data was collected through a comprehensive review of relevant literature generated from peer-reviewed articles, journals, conference papers and case studies focusing on three pedagogical aspects such as project-based learning, Inquiry-Based Learning (IBL) and experiential learning, utilising a qualitative approach that is purely a literature review responding to the gap. The transformational learning theory was used as a framework to address the urgency of environmental and social challenges facing HEIs in South Africa. The adoption of transformative pedagogies in South African HEIs holds great promise for advancing sustainable development by equipping students with the skills, knowledge and attitudes necessary to address complex sustainability challenges. It emerged that teachers do not adopt transformative pedagogies that go beyond traditional teaching methods to encourage students to critically engage with global challenges; hence, this chapter focuses on transforming learning and teaching pedagogies for sustainable development in South African HEIs. Transformative pedagogies should be applied for quality teaching and learning for sustainable development, focusing on integrating the real world into curriculum

Revisiting the Group Classification of the General Nonlinear Heat Equation ut = (K(u)ux)x

Group classification is a powerful tool for identifying and selecting the free elements—functions or parameters—in partial differential equations (PDEs) that maximize the symmetry properties of the model. In this paper, we revisit the group classification of the general nonlinear heat (or diffusion) equation ut = (K(u)u) where K(u) is a non-constant function of the dependent variable. We present the group classification framework, derive the determining equations for the coeffecients of the infinitesimal generators of the admitted symmetry groups, and systematically solve for admissible forms of K(u). Our analysis recovers the classical results of Ovsyannikov and Bluman and provides additional clarity and detailed derivations. The classification yields multiple cases, each corresponding to a specific form of K(u), and reveals the dimension of the associated Lie symmetry algebra
