Classification of auditory ERPs for ADHD detection in children
No full textAttention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the children’s most common neurodevelopmental conditions. ADHD diagnosis is based on evaluating inattention, hyperactivity, and impulsivity symptoms that interfere with or reduce daily functioning. Although electroencephalography (EEG) tests are used for ADHD diagnosis, they are generally considered a complement to clinical evaluation. This paper proposes an approach to classify EEG records of children with ADHD and control cases. We identified and extracted relevant features from EEG signals of 47 children (22 diagnosed with ADHD and 25 controls) and evaluated machine learning techniques for classification. We used the 2-tone oddball paradigm to elicit the subjects’ auditory event-related potentials (ERP), and we recorded EEG signals with a portable headset for approximately five minutes. In the feature extraction stage, we included measures from cognitive evoked potentials, frequency bands power, chaos quantification, and bispectral analysis, in addition to the age of the children and the number of high-pitched tones the children counted during the test. The SVM and Trees algorithms obtained the best performance for 86.36% accuracy and 95.45% sensitivity. These findings demonstrate the potential of portable EEG-based systems to complement standard clinical assessments, offering an objective, time-efficient, and accessible approach to support early ADHD diagnosis. Achieving high accuracy and sensitivity in classification is critical to reducing the risk of misdiagnosis and ensuring timely intervention, ultimately improving patient outcomes.Universidad Tecnológica de Bolíva
Early Detection of Neurodevelopmental Disorders as a Strategy for Educational Inclusion in Early Childhood Education
No full textThe objective of this study is to disseminate the results of a pilot system of early detection of neurodevelopmental disorders in early childhood education centres in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia. A total of 280 preschool children, their caregivers and teachers who were recruited from five early childhood education centres participated. Using a three-phase system for early detection of neurodevelopmental disorders, 15 cases were detected with delays in different developmental areas, with adequate levels of sensitivity and specificity. The phases of this system include: 1) Screening for risk of developmental delay, 2) In-depth developmental assessment of children at risk and specialised evaluation for suspected cases of neurodevelopmental disorder and 3) referral to specialised intervention and connecting children with special educational needs to educational inclusion strategy of their schools. A collaborative/interdisciplinary approach was used in which families played a crucial role. Once identified, students with neurodevelopmental disorders benefited from receiving the necessary support for their school progress through educational experiences that foster integrative development. This study provides evidence that supports the usefulness of detecting slow development early in childhood as a strategy to improve the life opportunities of children and encouraging educational inclusion in early childhood education.Universidad Tecnológica de Bolíva
The state of necessity as a cause of absence of responsibility in the crime of prison escape: a review from colombian legislation
No full textEn este artículo, producto de investigación, se analiza el estado de necesidad justificante como causal de ausencia de responsabilidad, aplicable a los eventos de evasiones carcelarias, desde una perspectiva del derecho penal como ciencia unitaria. Para esto, se estudia la tutela de la eficaz y recta impartición de justicia al interior de un Estado social y democrático de derecho, especialmente, sus implicaciones frente al estado de necesidad, cuando el contexto penitenciario impone peligros injustos a los derechos de los reclusos. La revisión de los requisitos de la causal permite ampliar su operatividad, mucho más allá de los casos, tradicionalmente, tratados por la doctrina mayoritaria.In this article, the state of justifying necessity is studied as a cause of absence of responsibility applicable to the events of prison evasions from the perspective of criminal law as a unitary science. For this, the implications of the "effective and correct administration of justice" as a legal right protected within a social and democratic State of law are analyzed, especially when the penitentiary context imposes unjust dangers to the rights of prisoners. A detailed study of the requirements of the state of necessity as a cause of absence of responsibility allows expanding its operation far beyond the cases traditionally treated by Colombian criminal doctrine.Derechos humanos, interculturalidad y desarroll

No full textEste estudio se desarrolla en la Institución Educativa Acisclo de Ávila Torres, ubicada en la zona insular de Cartagena. Su propósito es analizar la relación entre la política pública educativa y la gestión de la violencia escolar en este contexto. Se examina cómo ha sido posicionada esta política en los escenarios escolares, de qué manera es comprendida por sus actores y qué seguimientos se han realizado a través del comité de convivencia escolar, en cumplimiento de la Ley 1620 de 2013. Asimismo, busca analizar el papel de la institución y de la comunidad educativa en la implementación de estrategias que fortalezcan la convivencia escolar, garantizando el acceso y la participación de docentes y estudiantes en la materialización de la política. Automated System for OEE Management in the Industrial Sector
No full textIn today’s fast-paced manufacturing environment, the need to monitor production processes is becoming increasingly urgent. As companies strive to remain competitive in the Industry 4.0 era, they seek innovative solutions to enhance efficiency. This project addresses that need by providing a solution to capture OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) measurements from machines in the drum-filling industry, specifically targeting semi-automatic equipment. The primary objective is to streamline decision-making and improve data management performance. In collaboration with Alianza Team S.A., this article outlines the detailed design and development process of a web platform called AutOEE, which integrates the Snap7 communication technology. Additionally, the article presents technical experiments, including tests conducted using a PLC provided by ELEIA to simulate real production environments. These tests verified system stability, web interface responsiveness, and accurate data extraction, with reconnection features to recover from connectivity loss. The platform also supports real-time and historical OEE data visualization, with customizable views for specific days and shifts. User feedback, gathered through a web interface test with randomized data, was overwhelmingly positive (98%), praising ease of use, relevance, and load times. However, suggestions for improvement included simplifying access to historical data, adding PDF report generation, improving security, and enhancing error reporting. No full textEl presente trabajo tuvo como objetivo diseñar una propuesta estratégica para la implementación y evaluación de los resultados de aprendizaje en el programa de Contaduría Pública de UNICOLOMBO, atendiendo lo establecido en el Decreto 1075 de 2015 modificado por los Decretos 1330 de 2019 y 0529 de 2024. Este se desarrolló mediante una fase diagnóstica en la que se realizó una revisión de los principales documentos institucionales y del programa, y la aplicación de un instrumento a los docentes, con el fin de identificar el grado de apropiación de los resultados de aprendizaje, y la evaluación formativa en el programa. y con base en los resultados obtenidos, en la fase estratégica se estructuró un plan estratégico que incluye la actualización de documentos, capacitación docente, y el diseño de un sistema de evaluación de los Resultados de aprendizaje. Thermal conductivity determination in Fe78Si9B13/GNP/Epoxy composites by observation of samples and use of ad-hoc software: a new approximation methodology
No full textThis study investigated the thermal conductivity (k) of composites composed of Fe78Si9B13 microparticles (weight fractions: 10%, 15%, and 25%) and graphene nanoplatelets (GNP) (weight fractions: 0%, 1.0%, and 1.5%) embedded in a transparent epoxy matrix. Nine cylindrical samples (7 mm diameter and 2 mm length) were prepared. Thermal conductivity was determined by measuring the thermal diffusivity using the flash technique and applying the relevant relationship between the two parameters. Because some samples contained pores, the measured diffusivity was corrected for porosity by using a novel method developed by the authors. This method allowed the estimation of the composite percentage porosity based on the Young's modulus (E) of the sample. This correction eliminates the influence of porosity on the calculated diffusivity value, allowing determination of the intrinsic diffusivity of the composite material. Finally, each sample's thermal conductivity was calculated using the diffusivity values. The values of the estimated parameters were compared with those determined by other well-known and established methods, and practically the same results were obtained. These comparative calculations demonstrated the efficiency of the proposed method. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of this method in correcting the effects of porosity on the thermal conductivity measurements in the studied samples
Biogeochemical study of the periglacial slopes of the Nevado del Ruíz volcano (Colombia) as a terrestrial analog of Mars
No full textIncluye mapas y gráficosThe Refugio sector of the Nevado del Ruiz Volcano, located in Colombia, has been the focus of multidisciplinary exploration aimed at understanding its geology, geochemistry, mineralogy, and microbiology, with the objective of evaluating its relevance as a potential terrestrial analog of astrobiological interest for Mars. Through detailed physicochemical analyses of soil samples, variability in properties such as pH, electrical conductivity, and nutrient content has been characterized, revealing the diversity of microenvironments within this volcanic region. Comparison with analog samples from Mars, taken from the ISAR collection, has highlighted significant differences in geochemical composition, particularly in MnO, Fe₂O₃, and SiO₂ content, underscoring the importance of Nevado del Ruiz as a key site for studying Martian geological processes. Furthermore, CRISM spectroscopy analyses have confirmed the presence of minerals similar to those found in Mawrth Vallis on Mars, further supporting the site’s validity as a terrestrial analog for planetary studies. Finally, the isolation of bacterial species identified as Klebsiella spallanzanii and Bacillus cereus, two oligotrophic and psychrophilic microorganisms, capable of phosphate solubilization and nitrogen fixation, found at Nevado del Ruiz support the development of biological models of astrobiological relevance. Together with the other findings, this evidence reinforces the importance of Nevado del Ruiz as a natural laboratory for astrobiology and space exploration, with the potential to provide information for future planetary exploration missions.1.Introduction

Understanding perceived COVID-19 changes, collectivism, and social exclusion: A cross-cultural study in 32 countries
No full textThis cross-cultural study examines the relationship between perceived COVID-19 changes due to the impacts on everyday life by the pandemic with social exclusion and across 32 cultures and their levels in collectivism. With data from the start of the first outbreak from March 2020 to June 2020 (N = 9245), multilevel analysis indicated that as individuals perceive greater daily life changes induced by the pandemic, they experience heightened levels of social exclusion, with this association being particularly pronounced in less collectivistic cultures. These findings underscore the importance of considering cultural context in understanding responses to crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, with implications for culturally sensitive interventions aimed at promoting social inclusion across diverse cultural contexts
